We bought this excursion as part of our cruise offering. It is was a terrible experience. The bus departed later than scheduled, was packed at the maximum capacity and air conditioning was not working. We were not offered water ( there plastic water bottles you can buy at the site). We were not allowed to the see monkeys and in butterfly garden barely has any butterflies. Lost of the time and lost of money

We found ourselves - two families with children ranging in age from 9-17 - at Mayan Eden on the advice of our taxi driver, Milton. We weren't sure what to expect as we hadn't read about Mayan Eden as it isn't as advertised as other similar experiences on the island. What a treat! We had the place to ourselves and got to get up close and personal with monkeys, macaws, and kinkajou. Our young guide was very accommodating and just lovely. If you're looking for an animal experience on the island that isn't Disneyfied, this is the place for you. Others in our group also enjoyed the zip lines.

A nice little animal adventure. We saw butterflies, monkeys, macaws, the Kinkajou and some other type of animal. We did not see and were even told that they had sloths.
The weather was nice when we were there, but I could see that it could be slippery if it was or had been raining.

After seeing the poor animals kept in sparse cages at Jungle Top, we really enjoyed the sanctuary for the animals at Mayan Eden. Our tour guide Damaris was knowledgeable and patient. Our group was very large after another tour joined us as Damaris spoke English and another of the guides did not. Damaris made sure each one of us got to hold or experience each of the animals in a timely and orderly fashion. She gave great insights and knowledge on each of the animals temperaments and habits. A+ for everything about this place! Loved it!

Our island tour guide Alex took us here when we said we wanted to see animals! Last year we went to Gumbalina and this was so much better! We were lucky that no cruise ships were import. Our guide was very friendly and got lots of pictures for us. I’m not sure we would have found it on our own. A highlight of our vacation!

Zip line was great and the guides for both the zip line and animal sanctuary made the trip fun. Not a lot of platforms but a great way to spend the afternoon. Be sure to bring water. It was HOT.

We stopped here on a tour of the nature park and ziplines here. I have been on zip lines a few times before in different areas including Roatan. This is by far the best ever. The nature part of the tour was informative but not all the info correct. Sorry for the young man's loss of his father that gave the tour. Hummingbirds do see a large spectrum of colors as I thought but was misinformed on that one there.

My wife and I visited on a cruise ship excursion from the Norwegian Dawn, what a great experience. Got to visit with butterflies, monkey’s, Macaws, and many other animals. We had a great time and the staff was friendly and helpful. Highly recommend this as a place to visit.

I wish I remember our tour ladies name. She was awesome and did a great job explaining all about the butterflies'. Even my husband said how much fun it was to learn so much. Of course the rest of the animals were a hoot too!

This place was fantastic. We booked with 2K's Adventure Tours, and they brought us here. We had so much fun! I cannot recall our guide's name, but she was lovely. Very informative and nice.
The animals seemed pretty happy and so amazing to see them up close, even holding (or being stood on by) some!
So happy we came here, truly crosses items off the bucket list!

Can you interact with or hold the toucans at Mayan Eden?
Written October 16, 2023
My wife is in a manual wheelchair. Will we be able to visit and interact with sloth or monkeys? She can't go up or down stairs.

Does this location rain out? I have a cruise booked next week and it is calling for rain. I have an excursion at mayan Eden.

Visiting Roatan in 3 weeks. Since it's on a Sunday, this seems to possibly be the only sloth encounter venue open.
We don't arrive until near noon.
So, if taking a taxi costs seem to be unregulated.
Someone said they felt rushed. Is there a time allotment if not part of another tour?
Are " guides" mandatory or you can wander at your leisure. Thanks!

We are trying to fit everything in during our day in port at Roatan and we really want to see the Mayan Eden Eco Park. We were thinking of doing this one on our own after our morning excursion which ends at 11:30 and wondered how much time we should allow from the port of Coxen Hole to get to the park, tour the park, and return to port before our ship departs. We do not want to do the zipline portion. Is this a self-guided tour or does a park provide their own tour guide? Is it advisable to take a taxi there on our own or go with a local tour company? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

The zip line is the best part of the park. The animals aren't that spectacular, but were a fun add on after the zip line. I'm not sure I'd put forth the effort to do only the park. The are in cages like a zoo, but they get a lot of them out to show you. They take credit cards at the gate but their machine doesn't always work right, so we had to have cash. US dollar. It's a pretty quick taxi ride to this park. Be advised that the taxi's in port are mostly trying to sell you a tour and they get paid by you and where they take you. They will try and up sale you, most likely. Be firm and assertive and you'll be fine. We did it in a huge group of like 13 that we crammed into a mini-bus-van thing. Made the overall cost lower. If you can arrange to just have a taxi take you, it will cost less. They will want to shove a "tour guide" into the car with you that will cost you more. Especially at the end when they try and guilt you into a tip one for the driver and one for the "guide". I found our guide interesting but also very annoying. She felt like she had to talk non-stop. The taxi driver never talked, so if you want a conversation, get the guide. Some seriously steep roads on that island. The reason we ended up going here, was the ship's excursions all got canceled due to heavy rains and mudslides on a lot of the roads. Even with that we didn't have any trouble getting around. The locals all came out and cleared the roads pretty fast. There are mosquitos at the eco park, so come prepared. I think, time-wise you should be fine. Sorry for the long reply, hope it helps.

How do you book in advance to get the transportation from the cruise port to the park and back?
Written February 17, 2017
Hope this isn't too late. We did not go from the cruise port. We called the local phone number (on their website) and they picked us up at our resort, and drove us home. They will also pick you up ant the port. Our driver was our guide also. Hope this answers your question
