WILDLIFE ABOUNDS
Jul 2021 • Solo
Busy place when I was here. Singles, couples, families with kids. Lots of wildlife, including butterflies, hummingbirds, macaws, toucans, kinkajou, capuchin monkeys, among others. Very interesting. The monkeys are friendly, but keep in mind that they can bite. I had one bite me at a summer camp in Massachusetts when I was in high school.

monkey bite!
Jun 2021
the guides were very nice and the animals were lovely to see and some of the capuchins were amazing to see up close and have them play with you. HOWEVER, some of the capuchins perhaps should be kept away from people. I was bitten hard by one of them and the teeth broke skin and the wound bled. this same monkey not long before the bite had been freely climbing all over us, so the bite could have been much worse or it could have bitten a child.

i saw a dr on the island who gave me standard antibiotics but without the animals medical history, could not do much more. i am trying to get information from the mayan eden to find out whether the animal was vaccinated and/or had any medical issues. i did notice some wounds on its face, but i am hoping they were just from monkey fights and not a sign of illness or disease.

while the monkeys are beautiful, please be aware of the potential to bite. it was quite surprising as i have been around wild capuchins in costa rica and they were not aggressive at all. i think these monkeys are part wild/part domesticated and may therefore have some behavioral issues.

Great authentic experience in the Roatan jungle
Jun 2021
We found ourselves - two families with children ranging in age from 9-17 - at Mayan Eden on the advice of our taxi driver, Milton. We weren't sure what to expect as we hadn't read about Mayan Eden as it isn't as advertised as other similar experiences on the island. What a treat! We had the place to ourselves and got to get up close and personal with monkeys, macaws, and kinkajou. Our young guide was very accommodating and just lovely. If you're looking for an animal experience on the island that isn't Disneyfied, this is the place for you. Others in our group also enjoyed the zip lines.

Best ziplines
Mar 2021
We stopped here on a tour of the nature park and ziplines here. I have been on zip lines a few times before in different areas including Roatan. This is by far the best ever. The nature part of the tour was informative but not all the info correct. Sorry for the young man's loss of his father that gave the tour. Hummingbirds do see a large spectrum of colors as I thought but was misinformed on that one there.

Much better than Gumbalina in my opinion
Feb 2020 • Couples
Our island tour guide Alex took us here when we said we wanted to see animals! Last year we went to Gumbalina and this was so much better! We were lucky that no cruise ships were import. Our guide was very friendly and got lots of pictures for us. I’m not sure we would have found it on our own. A highlight of our vacation!

Animal/ Nature Encounters
Feb 2020 • Friends
We chose Mayan Eden after researching sanctuaries that included sloths. Based on great reviews, we grabbed a cab in port from our cruise ship.
The driver, spoke limited English, but was very nice and stayed until we finished.
Our tour guide was great! Very friendly and knowledable. We explored the butterflies first, followed by the sloths. As I used a cane and the terrain was uphill and uneven, they brought a sloth to me. What a sweet, beautiful creature!
We returned to the main park and enjoyed fun encounters with the colorful macaws and clever, hilarious monkeys.
We had a blast! The animals are not caged, healthy and very people friendly. Awesome way to spend quality time in Roatan.

Worth the visit!

Best part of this is the animals roam free! You can tell they are happy and cared for. Our guide was very informative and the butterfly enclosure was very interesting. Great from adults and children alike!

Lovely Eco park
Dec 2019
Wonderful young man guided us through the butterfly house, full of butterflies, humming birds and statues. He was very knowledgeable. Outside there were macaws you could hold and many animals in cages. This was part of a tour from a cruise ship.

Well Worth the Visit

We visited Mayan Eden as part of a personalized tour. I highly recommend coming here if you want to directly interact with monkeys, sloths, and birds.

It's Something to Do
Jan 2020 • Couples
The park was just OK for me. We did the zipline and went to look at the animals. The cost was $45 I felt it should have been more like $25 per person. We did the zipline 1st. They took us on 7 of them but I was pretty much over it after 4. Our zipline guides were pretty cool. They took pictures and video of us so we could remember the moment which was nice. The gloves they gave us to use seemed like they had never been cleaned or sterilized. After using them my hands had an odor. The animal section was small. The monkey that sat on your shoulder for a picture was cute. They have a sloth that they keep in one area with his trainer for photo ops as well. They only have about 5 species of animals to look at. They also have a Butterfly exhibit. The area where they have them in is pretty. They also have a hike through the park but we opted out of that portion. In all I'd say it's something to do but now that I have experienced it I don't think I would have put it on my must do list.
