Overall Food was pretty good, servers were attentive, especially Joel. He was great. Partial tips were included in the total, but we typically tipped 10 to 15% on top of that for good service. Dress casual to swimwear was typical.

Visited this beach several times during our stay. Beach bar offered shade and shelter if bad weather came. Reef is very close in front and beach very sheltered with a Park Ranger present most days to offer suggestions and provide a bit of fish food to attract the residents. While the beach chairs are for guests or people buying food or drinks, there is a section along the water for others. Right at the end of West Bay so not terribly busy. Food in beach bar is excellent although bit pricy.

We were staying in the area and wanted to try the restaurant. Stopped in for dinner and were treated very attentively by Jimmy. Very professional and helpful!
Cannot say enough about the appetizer, Bacon wrapped shrimp. We've had some great shrimp dishes before but by far this is the best we've ever had! Too bad we found this the last night of our stay.
The meals were very good and very generous servings.
Definitely will be back.

Loved Roatan the little I saw of it and would love to revisit for a longer stay. West Bay Beach is a taxi ride away and this is where most holidaymakers stay. It rained on my visit so Beach plan was cancelled.
Souvenirs here are mainly hand made, wood carvings, tree carvings and locally produced hot sauces. The Port has a lot of little shops, but don't be afraid to venture outside of the Port shops. A taxi will cost you around 20 USD for a trip into town and the taxi driver will recommend the cheaper shops, where there are no commissions for the Cruise. A lot of people on the cruise said they would not feel safe venturing further out, but personally I had cabin fever and could not wait to get off and see what this place offered.
And get your passport stamped, they will ask for a small donation that will go to a good cause.

After reading other traveler's reviews, I want to commend Grand Roatan Resort for NOT allowing cruisers & other non-guests to purchase day-passes or take over their beach chairs. As a guest of the resort, I feel, as I'm sure many others do, that those staying at any resort should have access to their amenities without having to wade through throngs of non-guests, as at other resorts. Thank you Grand Roatan for putting your guests first!

While walking the beach we stopped to talk with Herbie the security gaurd who was extremely kind and very knowledgeable with the area. Since the property is relatively new we were invited to stay on the beach and use chairs and umbrellas provided we patronized the bar which we were happy to do. Lunch was fabulous and the service provided by "Tashie" our bartender was friendly and entertaining. We were escorted to Erika by Herbie for a tour of the property later in the day and the place looked amazing. As we were already booked at another location for the duration of our stay we suggested some travelers that were meeting us later in the week adjust their itinerary and stay here. They were extremely happy with the accomodations.
We came back to enjoy an awesome dinner the following night with Fabricio our server who did a wonderful job keeping drinks fresh. Food was excellent and presentation was fabulous.
Looking forward to a stay here in the future.

We stumbled upon Grand Roatan while walking West Bay beach and immediately loved the staff, the beach and the snorkeling. Of our 14 day trip to Roatan, in week 1 we spent 3 separate days here and a few hundred dollars. We loved Ezra, he completely understood service and really went above and beyond. We had a lot of local beer, sea bass (ask for the jalepeno sauce on the side), burgers, shrimp tacos, and the fish sandwich on our various visits. On some days you could use the chairs (depending on capacity at the resort) and on others, we sat in the palapa bar area.
We loved the lit up onyx bar at night and decided to stop in New Years Eve to have a drink. Unfortunately, on this evening, we were intentionally shorted changed when paying. After confronting the young male bartender re: the change he said “Oh, I thought you were having more drinks” and when we said “NO, we asked for the bill to pay and paid which means we’re done” he begrudgingly gave us our $4 back. Ironically, that same evening they had a wonderful singer, Angela, for entertainment and we had given her a $5 tip --so it wasn’t about the $4. I was so upset at the dishonesty (knowing we’d come here on multiple occasions and had a great experience) that I spoke with the female Manager on duty. My husband and I both felt the young bartender had intentionally tried to cheat us and we’d not experienced that in Roatan at all so we were both very upset and went home for the evening not celebrating New Years on the beach. Although I really wanted to go back and discuss the incident with Ezra (because he was not working the night of New Years and I felt he should know what happened), I just couldn’t get over the intentional theft so we did not visit Grand Roatan again. I hope the employee was reprimanded or no longer working for Grand Roatan but my advice when visiting here, always count your change and get a copy of your bill. Although a very nice resort, employees ripping off customers will sour the experience immensely.

This place seems great from the website and from the reviews but according to two emails from them, directly, they no longer sell passes to their beach or pool for cruisers but are welcome to visit their Palapa.
We did not visit.

Ezra was a fabulous bartender. Kept our camera bags safe while we were in the water. Very friendly and knowledgeable. Because of Ezra, we returned to the Grand Roatan for drinks and lunch later in the week. Best lobster sandwich on the island.

It appears that there might be different buildings housing resort rooms. We booked a 3 bedroom condo. Where would it be located? In the main building by the pool?

Can we stop by the Grand Roatan Beach Club to snorkel, use their chairs if we buy a meal/drinks? or must we have a prepaid reservation?
Thank you

Yes we did this several times. Just order some drinks and food. We took our valuables in a dry bag and the waiter watched our stuff at table. No problems at all.

Is the deck overlooking West Bay Beach on the iron shore wall accessible to those buying the day pass? I'd assume it's closed to the public.

Hi, my family and I are arriving on a cruise ship and I am making plans for a lunch/beach break.
What facilities may we use (i.e. lounge chairs, pool, etc... while enjoy our fantastic lunch that i have read so much about?

Did you end up doing this? I'm planning a trip and wondering how it went as a day trip.
