We stayed at Turtle Beach Resort (review forthcoming) about 3/4 mile away. So after a steady 30 minute uphill walk we arrived at our destination. Roatan Rum Company is like many places on the island. Small and somewhat nondescript from the outside, but do not...More

Bought a sampler and a larger cake. Super spongy, oily and flavorless. Not worth the 30 bucks for a "sampler". The staff was super friendly though..just the product was garbage. Total tourist trap. Not recommended..better off ordering rum online.More

Liquor sales this wkd?? (10 Replies)
Our hotel sent us an email telling us there are no liquor sales allowed this weekend due to an election. Is this true? Does it include bars too or just liquor sold at stores? We are supposed to stop at the Rum Company between airport in our resort today. Can't find anything on their Facebook page that says whether they're open or not. Does anyone know for sure? Thanks!

The law "Ley Seca" says no liquor sold OR Consumed from 6am today until 6 am Monday. When this was law for every Sunday it was sporadically enforced, West Bay often left more to themselves, West End had more shut down. No telling where or if it will be enforced for this election

Returning after four years with a couple of questions (18 Replies)
We had a fabulous time in Roatan 4 years ago, and are happy to be returning Feb. 2019. We spend the majority of our time in the water snorkeling, but I have read several reviews and such stating that there is a decline in reef health and fish numbers. (from Scuba Divers/Snorkelers in forums and reviews) Has it gone downhill that much in 4 years? Also, is the Roatan Rum Company still open? TIA!

Thanks for the info mamajelli! We're staying at Anthony's Key this time. We stayed at the Beach House on Half Moon Bay on our last visit, and spent most of our time snorkeling there or in West Bay in front of Infinity Bay. We're looking forward to hopefully seeing some different stuff, as wer're staying in Sandy Bay this time. Any idea how things are underwater in that area? I look forward to checking out the new spots in West End that you mentioned!
