- ijackieFalmouth, Massachusetts24 contributionsToo Good to Be True!I'm hesitant to write this review, because I honestly feel like Little French Key is a hidden gem! This was our absolute favorite excursion EVER, and we have been on a ton of excursions in our lifetime. We weren't able to book this excursion through our cruise ship. I think that is what makes this place so special; it wasn't overcrowded at all. In fact, we were the first group to arrive at LFK on Feb 17, 2020. I highly recommend you try to do the same. We had the whole place to ourselves for a little while. We opted for the VIP package and so glad we did! There was so much for us to do that we didn't have time to do everything that was included. The man who helped us all day was named Harlin. He was amazing and very attentive to our group of 13! However, it did take over an hour to get our food. He said the kitchen was backed up. We took the kayaks and paddle-boards out to see the tigers in the big green cage. OMG so glad we did this. Such a cool experience! Everything about LFK was amazing and we will definitely be back! The best advice I can give is this... Plan on bringing cash to pay for your package. If you use a credit card they will charge you an additional 19% service charge!Visited February 2020Traveled with familyWritten March 4, 2020
- VanessaKLemont, Illinois2 contributionsBest family excursion!!We chose Little French Key off of a recommendation from a friend and it was the favorite of all three kids (ages 13 and 9). It was easy to book on line and they provided instructions on where to find your ride to the island. It is a bit crazy at that port, as everyone is offering cab rides, but the employees were where they were supposed to be and wearing identifying shirts. Once at the main center there is a short (5 min) boat ferry to Little French Key. Wh had a main point of contact with one of the employees who showed us around the key and gave us some information. He showed us to our designated area and would check in with us for food and drinks throughout the day. This was a perfect spot for kids. Not as crowded as Big French Key. The kids loved jumping off the big platform, the swings in the water and swimming with the pigs. There are also inlets along the key, so swimming, paddle boarding, and kayaking, were safe for the kids to do on their own. The kids also enjoyed holding a monkey and finding litter hermit crabs. The food was delicious (I had the jerk chicken, yum!) and the drinks were easy to get. I wish we had a longer time at this spot and would go back again. We all had a great day!Visited January 2020Traveled with familyWritten January 8, 2020
- NatalyMississippi Gulf Coast, Mississippi5 contributionsAfter CovidWe had an incredible time with the basic package for a family of 4 at the little French key; we had a very kind and nice server Milton Samir He was always making sure our kids and us were comfortable and happy during our time there. LFK It’s a must if you visit the island. Also we met a guy that takes 100% care of the little zoo Oren he was amazing and took his time to show my kids all the animals.Visited December 2020Written December 23, 2020

First was pick up from ship told to look for people with little french key shirts on, well they had shirts and put them on after people told us go to this guy, he works there sketchy... The beach and service there was nice we arrived. Leaving was to told to wait they were waiting for a few more people , we were approached by an employee asking us if we wanted to go he could take us if we took care of him he would take us... um no we already paid for transportation so they made us wait even longer and when more people showed up they took them in a van marked little French key and made us wait again, then had someone take us finally in their own dirty van with engine lights on . Sketchy getting there and back

BEWARE! I have been patiently waiting for a refund since mid-March. When I spoke to Aylin on March 14th I explained to him that our cruise was canceled and we would not be able to make it to the island. I was told that I could either have a refund or re-book at a discounted rate. I chose the refund. Each time I've reached out to Aylin I've been asked to wait a little longer. The last email I received, Aylin asked that I wait until June 1st. Still no refund! I reached out to Aylin again today (June 4th) and Aylin responded that I need to wait until July. I understand that this is a crazy circumstance. However, they are assuring guests, on the forums (located on their webpage) that if you book with them and your cruise is canceled you will receive a refund. You might not want to book with them until you are positive your cruise will set sail.

As we arrived on our cruise ship, we saw a beautiful island with a (small) public beach and chairlifts just off the dock. We, however, chose to go further inland to the Little French Key (LFK). As with most cruise ports, we were promptly corralled into the gift shop area before we reached the taxis, which were all run by the same company. We tried to walk away from the main stand only to discover a long road that lead to a secondary area where tours groups meet, but no other taxis were available. We did flag down a taxi and the fare to go maybe 20 minutes was $25 (same as at the stand).
We arrived at LFK and discovered they wanted $35 more PER PERSON to take a pontoon ride about 300 feet to the island with partial island access. For the $35 you got a palapa, the beach, and the animals (pigs, roosters, monkeys, and leopards) which were in cages. You could also swim with a pig for $20 (which we declined to do). The $35 fee was the low-end package.
We were going to swim on the beach, but the sand ended in about 10 feet and the mud bottom made it like swimming in the Mississippi. Since we had our wet shoes, we thought we would just walk out and see some fish. Turns out we were walking on old coral, which we would never knowingly do. We found this out when a security guard told a kid there was no paddle boarding in the area, but said it was OK for us to walk there. On the bright side, we loved our waiter at the palapa, which we were told was just built a couple years ago.
Recommendations to avoid some of these pitfalls: Try to book a snorkeling excursion (or whatever you want to do) through the cruise lines or directly with an independent operator on Roatan.

I have always been a HUGE fan of LFK, and recommended it to many people. However, when my cruise cancelled due to Covid, I asked for refund back in March and was told it would take about 3 weeks. Even missed this port on 1 cruise and my money was refunded before I got home. But this time, after about 6 weeks I checked in with them for a status and chatted with Aylin. He answered my emails back and forth until I demanded a refund not a credit since I did know when I would be able to return. After that I started get scripted emails about how poor Roatan is. I understand they have lost revenue due to the virus, but they are still accepting bookings and payments. I have waitied patiently for my refund but now I have filed a complaint to my credit card and paypal against them. Sad to say, but HORRIBLE customer service. If he would have continued to chat instead of sending scripted letters, I may have not been as upset as I am now. Everybody in the world is in the same situation, I will NOT donate almost $500.00 to LFK. REFUND, please.

Beware of this organization!! We booked with Little French Key in December of last year. We are a family of 8 that was coming via a cruise ship. When I attempted to make the reservation their was a large fee that I was told by the LFK reservations person was imposed by Roatan (I'm assuming to use a credit card). If I wanted to avoid that fee I was told I had to use PayPal. I used PayPal and reserved our spots for April. Then, unfortunately, COVID-19 occurred and our cruise was cancelled. I contacted LFK and they told me they would prefer I just hold my spots for a later time but would give a refund if needed. I tried to rebook the same cruise for September (the next available time we all had for vacations) but unfortunately Carnival didn't have a cruise to Roatan in September. I contacted LFK in March and told them I needed a refund because I couldn't find a cruise that would work for us. They agreed. By the end of May I still hadn't received my refund so I again emailed them. They stated that since I paid via PayPal they couldn't give me a refund. That was their policy. They would hold the credit for 2 years for us but that was all they could do. Every other island that I dealt with was professional and provided a prompt refund. I understand that LFK exists due to tourism and I am sure it is difficult for them right now. It is difficult for all of us. All of us need our money right now. Not refunding money is absolutely inappropriate if you want people to trust you.

Carnival Cruise has cancelled our stop to Roatan and I had purchased 2 excursions. I have email 6 time for the past 6 days and used the WhatsApp and have not received a response until today to reschedule for 15%. In my email to LFK I also attached the letter Carnival Cruise line sent out that this port was cancelled. This is out of my hands. This is first and last time that I will ever purchase a excursion outside of Carnival. I am not the only one that is getting push pack on not getting a refund. No customer service at this place.

Little French Key was the best excursion we did on our cruise. After a short walk from the pier we were able to easily identify our driver on the side of the road and enjoyed a short air conditioned drive to our destination. (Approx 15 minutes). We then took a 2 minute ferry ride to the island where we were created by staff who gave us a tour of the area/facilities. We booked the 90.00 package which included snorkel gear, kayaks, a meal and 2 drinks. The island was stunning, we did some snorkeling, the water was so clear and warm! Our meal was fantastic, drinks stiff, and there was so much to do/explore. We swam out to some hammocks in the water and had an incredible, relaxing day. Our server Milton Samir was truly lovely, he didn’t let our drinks go dry and was so friendly. His hospitality was a key factor in making our day so enjoyable. Can’t wait to go back! Would highly recommend for couples, friends and even families with children!

Decided to drive my own rental car and got a discount for not using their transportation. We got there around 10:30 and had sun till about noon, when it then got cloudy and rained off and on. Our ticket included full use of the place, snorkel, kayak, andpaddleboards, as well as 2 drinks and a local plate lunch which was huge and delicious. My wife and I both got one hour massages which were excellent,. The water is crystal clear around there was very relaxing just to snorkel around. There was quite a lot of fish especially near where we got our massages. Staff was very attentive they would come around frequently to see if you needed something. The place is pretty deserted today we went there, must not have been many cruise ships in. There are a bunch of caged animals on the grounds which included two jaguars, which I know are rare and endangered. That kind of stuff is unnecessary. Maybe if I knew the backstory. Where they rescue animals, or just bought for show? They looked healthy. This place is cool enough without caged animals. Just my opinion.

It rained the entire night before and day of our stay. Our cruise ship canceled their trip to Big French Key due to washes out roads. I found that out after we returned. Our driver did get us there safely; however, our walk to his vehicle was somewhat sketchy. It was outside of the port and several blocks from the main road. Nevertheless, lunch was fabulous and the staff was extremely helpful and friendly. There were only 30 or so patrons due to the inclement weather. I was disappointed the rain kept us from enjoying the beautiful property.

I struggle with this review given how wonderful our past experiences were the last two times we visited, but this was far from a good experience. And, this is not what the #1 attraction on Trip Advisor is supposed to be.
For two weeks, I tried repeatedly to book our package on their site with no success. I emailed them multiple times with no response. I used the Contact Us link on their website multiple times with no response. I called the number on their site three times, no answer. I tried using Facebook Messenger and finally got a response, sort of. I was able to make a reservation but no instructions on what to do or how to pay. Two days before our scheduled reservation, I receive a message on Messenger stating the incorrect arrival date.
Upon exiting the ship terminal, we were asked to wait for a few mins for their ‘bus’ to arrive. It then turned into “follow this guy” to an unmarked car parked half a block down.
We get to the registration desk to learn that they don’t take credit card - cash or PayPal only. Would have been nice to know that in advance for a group.
Waiter was really attentive but the overall service was slow. The included lunch plate took 45 mins to arrive. Beers took 20 mins to arrive despite being only feet from the bar. Then our waiter disappeared for a very long time. We ultimately had to request our bill from the bar and leave his tip with the bartender when he didn’t return.
The transportation back to the terminal was the final straw. Multiple “wait here’s” then “wait there”, then “get in this bus”, then some employees yelling to “get off this bus and move to that van”. Absolute confusion and not one supervisor anywhere.
The customer service logistics have completely deteriorated and I cannot see bringing my family back here. Such a shame given what it used to be.

Do you need a reservation or package to visit Little French Key? Can we just go there and do what we want without an excursion or package?

You don't need a reservation but depending on how you're visiting the island it is a little ways from the cruise ship terminals. So just make sure you allow yourself enough time to get back. It's actually a small island off of the main island so you have to get on a little ferry back to the main island and then make sure you get a taxi to drive you back. So I'd be sure that you have arrangements for when you plan to leave so that you don't miss your cruise ship.

We made arrangements for transportation with our hotel to Little French Key the day before we wanted to visit. I don’t think you need to make reservations way out in advance. At the water taxi area you will pre pay for all the stuff you want to do while there…there’s different packages. If you pay with cash it’s slightly cheaper. We used a credit card and was charged an additional fee.

I didn’t think so. The pigs were roaming free as were the monkeys. There is a lion there but we talked to the animal caretaker and he was showing us some of the enrichment they do with/for the lion. The lion really seemed to like him and the activities they were doing. They said about five years ago they stopped doing the swims with the jaguars and only have one now.

Hello,
I recently reached out via email to reserve for a party of 12. They emailed back saying that the email was considered my reservation and no deposit or payment is needed until arrival. Can someone please confirm? I feel very skeptical about this and was wondering if this was actually the process. Thanks!
