We had the best morning tour with Carlos! He met us at our hotel in Tikal around 6:30am and then myself and our 3 friends had a private tour of Tikal! We arrived the day before and had walked ourselves around the park the day before. It was a total game changer to have a knowledgeable guide. Carlos was a very nice guy and was very knowledgeable of the park as well as the plants, he also had some great personal stories he shared with us. He was not on a rigid schedule and let us spend more time in areas we were more interested in but also let us know that there was more ahead. Carlos is also a great photographer and was happy to take pictures of the group. We were done with the tour around noon that day which was perfect because it was starting to get very hot and the crowds were pouring in. We had arranged with Gem Trips a ride back to the border and had a very nice driver and a very nice van drive us to the border. I would highly suggest this company and I would highly suggest going to see Tikal! Thank you Carlos!

Based on a Trip Advisor recommendation, we organized our travel to northern Guatemala with Marlon from GEM Trips. Marlon is a super-professional guide and a real gentleman. He took our family on guided tours to Uaxactun Mayan ruins north of Tikal, Xunantunich Mayan ruins across the border in Belize (with the assistance of local guide Allyson who was also excellent), and Yaxha Mayan ruins. He also offers tours to Tikal and some of the lesser known Mayan cities like Naranjo and Nakum in northeast Guatemala. Incredibly knowledgeable and helpful, he guided us through the ruins but also noted our interests and helped us explore more deeply the areas of our interest. If you are going to Tikal or Uaxactun, you need to get the tickets in advance, either at any Banrural bank or the little ticket office at the entrance to Tikal National Park. Highly recommended!

We did a private tour of 2 with Marlon to Tikal that was excellent. He worked us around the park to ensure that we had minimal or no other persons at the specific site at the same time we were there. That meant we were the only ones on the temple platforms and had the Gran Plaza to ourselves. Just as important as viewing the archeological sites is the wildlife in the park, and Marlon had the knowledge and instinct to know where to look and when, pointing out things that we would have easily missed. I know others have had disappointing tours at Tikal, so I recommend Gem Trips to ensure a wonderful once in a lifetime experience.

The best day in Tikal! wrote a review Mar 2020

Where do I even start! My girlfriend and I have travelled around the world and sought out some of the most amazing experiences the world has to offer- this may actually top the list! It was seriously one of the most meaningful, spiritual and all around eye opening experiences we have ever had the pleasure of being a part of. Tikal is stunning and you cannot go wrong visiting at any time of day, however, the sunrise in the park was hands down the most breathtaking part. Our guide, Carlos, was friendly and his knowledge and passion for the Maya culture was spectacular. Not only did he guide us through the structures and provide us with info, he would take us off the beaten path to point out animals, leaves, let us eat nuts, berries and even termites straight from the jungle! After we got home, I realized that I had lost my wallet and Gem went ABOVE AND BEYOND to assist us in finding it and returning it to us. This was the first of a 7 day trip, which would have been very difficult without a wallet. Gem Agency was on the phone with us, our driver, the restaurant at Tikal trying to help us locate it. When they found it, they drove it all the way to us in Flores. Thank you to everyone that was a part of this experience!! We cannot recommend this experience enough :)

Absolutely awesome! We went with José Moreno, guide from Gem’s Trips. We enjoyed doing it in the dark before the sunrise and hearing the howlers monkeys, definitely the best part of our experience. We definitely suggest the Sunrise option instead of the Day tour, totally worth the price. They served water, breakfast, and lunch. They picked us up et drop off us directly were we were staying. This is a must!
