Our guide Carlos was so kind and so knowledgeable in history, plant and animal life! The sunset was magic and we couldn’t have asked for a more perfect day! Our lunch was delicious too!

This was just such a cool experience! The animals awakening in the morning was surreal, plus stunning views. Our guide (Carlos) was friendly, spoke great English, and was extremely knowledgeable about all of the ruins, plus he is an avid birder so was great at picking out birds with binoculars for us to see. We didn’t see much wildlife other than birds which I know is hit or miss, but you can hear the howler monkeys all day! 6 hours is a LOT of trekking but you cover most of the site, climb a bunch of the ruins, and get some really incredible viewpoints. Highly recommend having a guide to do this as I have no idea how you’d find your way around otherwise, and it really added a lot to the experience! Headlamp strongly advised.

What an incredible day! I was picked up by my guide, Carlos, at 3AM in Flores. Turned out I was the only person doing the tour so basically a private tour! We drove for ~1.5hours to get to the point where you start walking in, and after some coffee and biscuit (provided) we started the ~20 minute or so walk to the sunrise point. It was pitch black, and a bit eerie but incredible at the same time - Carlos took me a route where you can start to see the shadows of the temples against the skyline. We climbed up temple 4 ahead of sunrise and sat in silence as we waited for the mist to clear and light to break. There were probably max 20 other people there so very calm and peaceful. All the other people left around 7AM as their tickets only allowed them in until 8AM, however with this trip because it means the day ticket is included too, Carlos and I were the only people left up on the temple to enjoy the view and breakfast on our own - delicious bean stuffed tortilla, apple, an egg (provided). Carlos then suggested a route around the ruins for the morning, but he was very open to me leading the way if I wanted. He was very knowledgeable about Tikal, the Flores area in general, and especially birds! As a keen birder he was always on the lookout - we saw so many birds - falcons, parrots, toucans and many more. Thankfully he had brought his binoculars! Also saw monkeys which I definitely wouldn’t have spotted without him. I guess one point to note for this tour is that even with an early night, you are likely to start getting tired in the morning. I was running out of steam by around 11AM so decided to call it and head for lunch then. Lunch was probably the only disappointing aspect of the tour - it wasn’t bad, just very standard meat and rice from the park restaurant. If I went again I would probably ask to skip lunch and have the time back as I wasn’t even that hungry after the double breakfast. Things to know before you go: it’s an easy walk about but you’re likely to get tired with the early start so get an early night if you can. It was cool (but not cold) at 4AM but starts to warm up quite a bit at 9AM so wear layers. Doing the sunrise tour really allows you to appreciate the park virtually empty, definitely do it if you can. Bring lots of mosquito spray! Ask for Carlos - he was an exceptional guide :)

This tour was AMAZING! We mostly chose this tour bc of the late start, and I’m glad we did because it was worth so much more !! Roel was punctual for the pick up and extremely passionate & knowledgeable throughout the tour. He took us through a lot of short cuts and places I’ve never seen in the past ( I’ve been here twice before). The animals were unbothered by tourists, they had no problem with us being up close for photos. We climbed up the “Lost city” to view a beautiful sunset. We ended our trip with a fantastic view of all the stars! This is SO WORTH every penny ! I definitely recommend this tour and Roel as a tour guide !!
