Another place to kill a little time
Feb 2020
A small museum in the heart of Panajachel that has some interesting things to see. A nice quiet setting. It only takes a half hour to go through.

Interesting History
Jan 2019 • Couples
We popped in here due to guide book recommendation. This place was a hot spot in the late mid 1940’s
They display photos of a by gone day when the railroad and postal services were here. We enjoyed the nostalgia

nice house, but not a museum
Jan 2018 • Couples
Casa Kakchiquel (see also the tripadvisor entry for Casa Kakchiquel) is a 70 years old building, built by the then Swedish embassador to Guuatemala as the first hotel in Panajachel, now owned by a Swiss and renovated some ten years ago. Today its hosts a radio station, the Japanese Hana Restaurant (Sushi),exhibitions of old photos and some paintings, and much more. Its worth to visit the house (open from 12 AM), even if there is not much to see.

Great place for events
Apr 2017 • Family
I have been to several fundraisers there and find it to be a great venue. On an average day also, I enjoy looking at the historical photos. There is a great sushi restaurant on location also. I hear they offer yoga classes, however, I have not been.

Worth the money
Nov 2016 • Couples
The place is bright and clean, enough drawers and closets, the private bathroom is large and is far enough from the room so you do not feel crowded. They have a nice patio next to the room so you can go out and read quietly.
The location is perfect, just a few blocks from bars and restaurants but yet quiet. Well worth the money!

Looking for a place to stay? This is it
Dec 2016 • Couples
Casa Cakchiquel was more than we expected it to be. A perfectly clean and nite room will be waiting for you plus a very spacious bathroom. Even though they don't have any parking that wasn't an issue. A parking place was on the same block, 50Q per night (6USD aprox).
Location is perfect! Lake is a few blocks away and bars and restaurants are just around the corner, but don't worry, no noise will enter your room. I totally recommend this place! And hope to visit it again soon :)

Beautiful stay, amazingly friendly service!!
Feb 2016 • Friends
We stayed 2 nights at the room facing the street and I can honestly say this is one of my favourite stays. The room was spotless and everything about our stay was perfect! The cultural and art aspects of the space bring a great vibe to the stay and the staff are all incredible!!!

We had breakfast at the on-site Cafe, which was delicious and always served with care and a smile.
We were considering a hike to Jaibalito and the staff were very helpful in telling us where the hike starts and how far to go to make sure we stay safe.

A great thanks to everyone! :)

Not worth it without a guide
Feb 2016 • Couples
Given the previous reviews, I can only imagine that folks had a guided tour of the premises. We walked in looking for the "museum" and only found one room around a fire place with modern art, a courtyard with photographs of historical Pana (these were interesting), a Japanese restaurant Hana that looked to be good, and a sign on the wall explaining the history. This building may be a cultural center housing a radio station and other things, but it's a real disappointment as a museum.

Nice collection of historical photographs
Sep 2015
This is truly a cultural center, emphasizing contemporary interests rather than focusing on Maya history. It was founded in 1948 by the wife of a Swiss diplomat, and is now privately owned. Casa Cakchiquel hosts several community projects, including a weaving collective, a radio station, 2 cafes (1 serving Japanese cuisine, the other American), and several artists. There are classes on a variety of subjects, both creative and civic-oriented. But best is the collecting of historical fotos showing Pana as it was just before and after the turn of the 20th century. There was no guide and no admission when I visited on my own, but I was free to wander on my own.
