Stayed here for three nights. Should have booked more. The hotel itself with all the details in that amazing garden takes at least a day to explore and admire. The staff was very friendly, food okay, hotel cosy with excellent location.
The lake, it’s villages and volcanos offer so much to do and explore. There’s a very nice national park next to the hotel.
Lake itself might survive, if the people learn to take care of the wastewater. And it seems there’s some actions taken and hope exists.
Would have been better, if the two monster hotels pretty close to this hotel would not have been built there, but this is Guatemala.

We passed our 2 week Easter holidays in Guatemala with our five year old son & seven year old daughter. This very clean hotel was one of our favorites.
We've visited this hotel together with my best guatemalian friend and his wive & their 3 kids. The view on the Atitlan lake & the volcanoes out of your room, swimming pool & dining area is probably the best around the lake. The jacuzzi is very nice but extremely hot (too hot). The colonial building & the great garden are just amazing. The kids loved to see the birds & insects in the hugh and most elegant garden.
The restaurant of this hotel was the best we experienced during our stay in Guatemala. The salades were creative and very fresh & tasty. The national cuisine was well represented. They had also a kids menu!
The double bedroom had style and was very clean. I loved the high ceiling. Only the beds were pretty narrow.
The staff was friendly & correct.
The location of the hotel out of the centre of Pana is perfect for people who are looking for peace, nature y colonial style. The butterfly garden & the canopy tour above the coffee trees & the forrest are just around the corner in the backyard. The hotel has its own boats to bring you to nearby villages. The evening before we left the hotel, a hugh group of Greek & Asian tourists arrived. We were happy to leave the hotel because the peacefull surrounding wasn't the same anymore. Due to the problematic situation of the water quality of the lake you would expect that this hotel would offer biological bathroom products or would have it's own watertreatment installation. It would perfectly fit in the total concept of the hotel and the lake would benefit from it. Hopefully they will invest in it.

Let’s start with the obvious positives of the incredible property and grounds. The views and gardens are amazing and that is ultimately why you go here. On the other side you’d expect a lot beyond that for the very high price (especially given it is Guatemala) they charge. The service is non existent - just give you what you ask for. And even then maybe not. My room that cost $330/night (because they add a huge tax to the advertised $265/night rate) had ants crawling all over my stuff at the bathroom sink. I asked for it to be fixed and it never was. The food is mediocre and the rooms are in need of upgrades. Peeling paint on the lower part of the infinity pool and things like that say the owners are making a fortune and keeping the money instead of reinvesting it in this beautiful property. It’s time to reinvest and to bring up the service and food to match the price.

My wife and I spent 3 nights at this beautiful hotel. The grounds and the view are spectacular, however the service and noise spoiled our stay. First off I want to commend Victor at the front desk. He went above and beyond expectations assisting us when needed. Victor was the exception when it came to service. Our waiter at dinner on our 1st night did provide good service, however I was quite surprised when he asked for his tip in cash! Alberto also served us at the pool the next day, but we rarely saw him. At one point I went looking for Alberto but could not find him, so my wife placed a snack order with one of the other waiters. This seemed to offend Alberto who promptly closed our tab and again asked for a cash tip. We sat pool side for the next 30 minutes without any service what so ever so we left.

From the time we arrived and for the next 2 days we were subjected to the racket of the techno music fest taking place adjacent to the hotel. The noise was unbearable if you were at the pool or gardens and the thump, thump, thump went on until 1:00 am the 1st night and round the clock the 2nd night. After 2 sleepless nights we left the hotel for a more tranquil Panajachel. When we returned at 5:00 pm that evening the music was still pounding! We happened to run into the owner of the hotel and mentioned the noise. She said her lawyers were going to sue the land owner and we should buy a bottle of wine and stick something in our ears to help us sleep! Nothing more was offered for a horrible stay at this beautiful hotel. The owner and staff have some work ahead of them if they ever expect to become world class. I would not recommend them.

The gardens, pool & view are fantastic, and the front desk staff was extremely helpful.

On the negative side, the hotel itself is quite dated - particularly the bathrooms. I understand that a renovation is a huge undertaking, but I would think the price would at least justify complimentary water or coffee, which were not provided.

For better or worse, the hotel seems to cater to a significantly older crowd and to large groups. After 4 days in Panajachel, I didn't see anyplace else where I would rather have stayed, but for younger travelers I'd recommend branching out to other lake towns for accommodations if you're not tied to Pana.

Described as a 'Botanic Garden' it is really a formal garden in the grounds of the Hotel Atitlan. It is absolutely gorgeous and we spent a couple of hours wandering around and occasionally getting lost. There is some degree of structure with certain areas devoted to particular plants (roses, hibiscus, azaleas, etc) but even these had other plants mixed in. Altogether, a glorious garden overlooking the lake.

The entrance price of 75Q may seem a little high until you realize that this fee can be offset against food and drink in the restaurant. So if you were planning on having lunch or dinner there, or just a few drinks, entrance to the gardens is actually free.

If you are not staying at the hotel, you can tour the gardens for a small fee--or, better yet, buy a meal or refreshment in the restaurant and the access to the gardens is included. The gardens are quite extensive, meticulously kept, and the view of the lake and volcanoes is worth tht price of admission.
