We visited here from Panajachel and it was incredibly beautiful. The volcanoes surrounding the lake make for absolutely stunning scenery.

Lake Atitlan is a gorgeous landscape surrounded by volcanoes, Mayan towns, textile weavers and coffee fields. Each town around the lake has it's own unique character. Panajachel is large and filled with many tourist and is usually your first stop when arriving to the lake. I prefer to cross the lake in a boat to San Pedro. In San Pedro... More

Travelled to Lake Atitlan on 2 seperate occassions. From a great distance high above the lake on the highway, the first impressions that one gets when seeing it for the first time is one of certain amazement. From that distance, it's quite easy to see why people become so enamoured with the view. But something seemed unsettling to me. I... More

I believe that Norris Lake here in East Tennessee is truly one of the loveliest bodies of water anywhere in the world. Now, imagine it surrounded by several volcanoes, mountains, AND, having the entire lake to yourself, and you have the spectacular Lake Atitlan. Sacred to the Maya people, the lake expanded and lots of shoreline was lost after the... More

This lake has been called the most beautiful lake in the world and it is easy to see why. Nestled between 3 volcanoes, the views are magnificent and the day trips are endless. I went for my birthday and stayed 3 weeks in the town of San Marcos La Laguna. It did not disappoint. My birthday dinner overlooking the lake... More

This lake with an active volcano is astonishingly striking. It is mist covered and dramatic and stunning. I find it to be the one of the most beautiful in the world. I saw some more beautiful in Turkey and Georgia. It is one of the most beautiful in Central America. The mountains surrounding the lake are gorgeous jagged and verdant.... More

We had such a great day at Lake Atitilan travelling by boat to several of the little islands and visiting several local crafts co-operatives. This is the best place if you are looking for a bargain-specially in textiles and art work

The lake is a beautiful scenic location. I only hope that some environmental controls on the water pollution can be put into place to preserve the water. Take the water taxis and explore some of the hillside locations.

3-3.5 hours from the capital, this scenic lake deserves a visit. Most people come for a few days to a week and explore the surrounding nature and towns. If you are short on time, even an overnight may be worth it. Avoid the mountainside towns and opt for secluded lodges instead. Commune with nature here and rejuvenate.

Gorgeous lake surrounded by volcanoes. We took a boat across the lake and enjoyed a lovely lunch in Pachy. The boat ride was about 45 minutes and allowed beautiful views of the hillsides. The people of the villages were delightful selling their fabrics and jewelry. A good opportunity to immerse into the culture for a couple of hours.
