Guatemala's city zoo is a very nice place to visit. It is located near the international airport. Is a great place to go with children, family and friends. It is very well maintained. Inside you can find restaurants and areaa of entertainment. The zoo is part of a world organization, focused on protection and conservation of endangered species.

Lots of great exhibits. Impressive number - although I would like to see more Guatemalan species highlighted. My favorite exhibits were the local monkey species climbing high in the trees above the grounds. The food court and playground just inside the zoo has a great atmosphere for families and kids.

Your expectations will be exceeded.
One of the best activities in Guatemala City.
Elephant, hippo, chimps, lions, tigers, rhinos, penguins and a anaconda. Also an amazing serpentarium/reptile zone.
Not onli is this one of the best in the region, I would say one of the best in latinoamericana.
It's very modern, clean and the gardening is world class.
Great for adults and children.
For a little extra the vip tour let's you feed the elephant and giraffe and take a very close look at the felines and lemures.

I have visited Zoo in Guatemala City on one of Saturday’s, during my recent stay in this city. This is nice place to see natural plants of Guatemala and also meet locals :) (almost no tourist). I am not a fan of zoos as I do not think this is the best place for animals. However I understand that this is some kind of a way of prolonging some species. Therefore I am visiting such places to support them, by paying tickets and buying souvenirs. Zoo in Guatemala requires support - some animals were in smaller places and you can see, by observing their behavior, that they need bigger place to leave, in these abnormal condition of zoo. I believe that by supporting local communities we can help them to become better. I hope one day zoo in Guatemala will become a better place for animals. If you have chance to be in Guatemala City, consider quick visit to local zoo (close to airport).

One of the most beautiful zoos in Latin America. A perfectly keept zoo, with a fantastic variety of animals. It has a nice little acuarium, and very impressive serpentarium. Very shady to walk, several places to sit and take a rest. Food court. Great parking space. Very cheap admission fee. One not to miss.

I've only been to a few zoos and I think this is the best one I've seen. They have many different animals and some I've never seen before. Plenty off places to get food. The zoo is very clean and well maintained.

This was a nice day trip to get the kids to see something different. Very affordable with cute areas. It was strange to see planes taking off and landing, I felt bad for the bears who obviously did not have enough space, but I was at a Zoo afterall.

I thought the zoo was pretty awesome at first, it was uber clean and the animals had nice enclosures. The kids enjoyed it and we spent a lot of time there.

HOWEVER, we had a major problem with the zoo staff. After lunch we were letting the kids play on the play structure by the food court, along with about 100 school kids on a field trip. The kids were playing hide and seek and while my son was hiding behind a bush a male zoo employee grabbed him by the armed and forcefully kissed him. My son immediately told us about it and we approached the employee. The employee clearly knew what he did was wrong but openly admitted to his behavior. He told us his did it because our child didn't speak Spanish and he wanted to be friendly with him. He was clearly shocked when my husband and father in-law spoke Spanish demanding answers. Our son told us he had notice the man following him around the playground before the incident and the man admitted to it. He kept saying it was just a kiss and chased us all the way to the admin building as we went to report it. The zoo officials kept assuring us that they aim to keep visitors safe and would look into it. We were told to return in 6 days for a written report and a summary of their action taken. We returned in 6 days and discovered they had done nothing. I ask very specific questions about policies and training against inappropriate behavior towards children and was told they don't have any at all. The HR director told me that while she understood that the zoo broke our trust, that culturally in Guatemala inappropriate contact with children is rarely taken seriously. I implored her to create policies to keep the visitors safe, and prevent more serious crimes against children. She eventually offered to transfer him to the parking lot so he wouldn't be as close to kids. **facepalm**

The guy targeted our son because he didn't speak English and he thought he was a girl(given his long hair).
He waited until our son was briefly out of sight.
He jerked him by the arm and kissed him aggressively.
He admitted his behavior and said it was an impluse.
He argued with my Guatemalan, Spanish speaking father in-law, saying we were just being uptight.
He physically chased us to the admin office to prevent us from complaining.
THE ZOO TOOK NO ACTION TO PREVENT FURTHER INAPPROPRIATE CONTACT!!

I work in social services, people who want to harm children escalate their behavior the longer they get away with it. This wasn't some cultural misunderstanding. Please keep your kids safe, the zoo SHOULD be a safe place.

We arrived at Guatemala City airport with a couple of hours to spare and walked over to the zoo after checking our bags in - it's a 15-20 minute walk away. It's a well-kept, well-presented place with plenty of lively animals. We spent about an hour there and saw just about everything.
We even called in at a large handicraft market on the way back. All highly recommended.

I had an afternoon to kill with my 12-year-old daughter while staying at the Barcelo airport hotel. This is actually a pretty well-kept zoo. Staff everywhere cleaning and taking care of the grounds and making sure unruly Guatemalan kids don't launch plastic stuff into cages. Dead cheap. 30Q for adults and 10Q for kids up to 12. I paid 5-ish dollars to avoid the stench and lung-arresting exhaust of Guatemala City's highways for an afternoon. There are some pretty amazing animals I've never seen or heard of. I'm talking weird and fascinating. Usual suspects too (hippos, lions, giraffes, zebras, lots from the cat family, including a white Bengal tiger). The jaguar turned out to be a guy digging a ditch in the pen. Wish I'd taken a pic. The aviary section was actually quite impressive with lots of colourful birds up close in huge cages. There were raccoons penned-in which I thought most north-americans would find amusing, as they're usually pushing over garbage cans in our suburbs. Fast-food and beverage options galore in here and well-priced, though did not partake. Plan on 1.5 hours for nice walk around, then walk or grab one of many cabs waiting outside back to your airport hotel. I'd go again. Hell, for 5 bucks, I'd go just for the fresh air.
