Claudia was our guide, and she was excellent. She picked out birds quickly and got us onto them. Her knowledge of local history was also very good. The special hummingbird feeders at Finca El Pilar were outstanding. We enjoyed the trip to Rincon Suizo and seeing the Pink-headed Warbler was a real highlight. If you want to see the special birds around Antigua, or even further afield in Guatemala, then look no further than Cayaya Birding!

My wife and I just got back from a week of target birding in the Guatemalan Highlands with Knut Eisermann of Cayaya Birding. It was a great trip with some really cool birds and several rumbling volcanoes, periodically spewing out ash. Accommodations and food were of good quality especially at Los Tarrales which is a working coffee finca. Knut is a highly skilled field birder with an impressive knowledge of Guatemalan birds. He has written numerous articles on Guatemalan birds and knows where to find them. If you are thinking of going to Guatemala I would highly recommend you contact him. With Knut’s help we were able to see pretty well all of our target species including the globally rare Horned Guan and Azure-rumped Tanager.

Great experience. Claudia was a terrific guide - extremely knowledgeable as well as friendly and patient. Found a few species I wasn't expecting to see at all.

Claudia and Knut organised a custom made birdwatching tour that also took in time to enjoy the city of Antigua and the ruins at Tikal. We had excellent communications before the trip so we knew what to expect and a highly knowledgeable bird guide in Knut, who was not only amazing at finding birds but did so with good humour. Added to this we stayed in excellent accommodation with good food and great coffee, what more could you want.

Claudia and Knut are likely the two most experienced bird guides in Guatemala. I have been birding with them several times at El Pilar and Finca Filadelfia near Antigua. They are both extremely knowledgable, organized and delightful to be with. As they are local, they have detailed knowledge of birds, birding sites, transportation and logistics of Guatemala that no international tour organization could possibly compete with. If you need some key target species for your life list, or if you are a just an ecotourist in Guatemala and you want to get out and see some birds, Cayaya Birding is the way to go.
