- Glamgirls123286 contributionsGreat trip.We decided to come to this village than rather step in the port of Belize. We had fruit shakes at one small restaurant before walking around the village. We purchased some woven baskets which were half price from the street vendors rather that the stores. People very friendly here. Some cafes closed early.Traveled with friendsWritten March 12, 2018

On the pier there are a few vendors and some tour operators..
On the day we were there, it was slow. A cruise ship had just left the day before. We were there to see the fisherman’s day catch but were disappointed as we had arrived late and the fish were all gone.

This beach was by far the best one in Placencia. The pier was clean and well maintained. Beach was pristine.

Was in Palencia, Belize for the day, off of the NCL BREAKAWAY. Several of the vendors had carved items, ie: turtles, etc to purchase and was able to haggle for prices. At one of the little stores on the pier was able to purchase Marie Sharps hot sauce, which was great. People on pier very friendly and helpful.

The beach by the pier is great, the water is clear, there are shade trees and picnic tables - We bought fresh lobster tails from a local fisherman to cook, delicious!

Fun place to walk about & be sure to walk on the “boardwalk” between all the little shops & restaurants. Fun to look in the shops and there are two beachfront bars that have live music. A cool breeze blowing, listening to music, views of the beach, best of vibes.

This is a fun place to visit after dark as the light at the end of the pier attracts small fish and insects. These small fish and insects have attracted a large school of tarpon to swarm the area and feed. Something to do in the evening to go for a walk after dinner and watch the big fish.

We loved this little beach adjacent to the pier, it is kind of “around the Horn” of the peninsula so, it is protected from the heavy wind, waves and seaweed. When the conditions are not right for swimming on the beach, in front of your resort or favorite restaurant, this is the place to be for swimming or floating. The beach, water and sands are very clean an inviting. Bring your own drinks or snacks or there are food/drink options just steps away. (Like the “Shack” Restaurant.)

Hi Sandy. I read your post and was hoping you could give me more information on the boat ride to the mainland. We're staying in Placencia in March and are interested in taking a tour but would prefer not to be on a tour group schedule.
When you took the boat from the Placencia Pier, where did it drop you off on the mainland? Did you need to book your guide in advance and what does he charge for his tours? I know that many of the tours require a fairly lengthy drive. When did you arrive at the mainland and how long was your tour?

We took a boat tour to the monkey river which is really on the mainland, but not to any town, just the jungle. The length was probably 30 min +\-. I hope this helps.

We will be traveling to Harvest Caye in January 2019. I am trying to work in an excursion to Monkey River, followed by an afternoon in Placencia, but nothing I've read says if there is an afternoon ferry offered from Harvest Caye? I'm just not sure if I should give up on the idea of going to the Monkey River - because I really don't want to miss Placencia! Can you help me?

Whatever you do, don't miss Placencia.... It's a wonderful, friendly, interesting village. Hot and dusty but well worth a visit. I was there for a week in April and loved it. I assume you're on a cruise if you're at Harvest Caye. As far as I know, the local boat operators are NOT allowed into or out of the caye, so you will need to arrange a day trip to Placencia via NCL. There's plenty to see and do there to occupy a full day. Bon voyage!

We will be arriving on Harvest Caye via NCL cruise in March. Do you have any information on the Placencia village ferry? Ferry schedule, cost, etc? Thank you!

Just $20. It’s a15 minute ride from NCL’s island.
