We flew down to Belize for Spring Break and chartered a 48' catamaran through Moorings. Everyone we dealt with in booking the charter were all very helpful and prompt in answering questions. They kept us up to date concerning entry requirements and all the paperwork we needed to submit. I called the local office on several occasions and talked to Diego, who was super helpful. Once we got on the boat, Eggie and Mateo handled everything and made us feel right at home. As mentioned in prior reviews, the food was fantastic and Eggie took us to some beautiful pristine beaches and reefs. It was especially exciting to catch fish in the afternoon and have it for dinner that night. Besides being a fantastic chef, Mateo is also a great bartender, always keeping our glasses full. Belize is a beautiful country with warm and friendly people. It is an easy country to fly in and out of. Everyone seemed to have their act together. Eggie even took us to the clinic to get a covid test. It was a great experience and well worth the money. If you are thinking of coming to Belize to go sailing, I highly recommend chartering through Moorings. We will definitely be back agin next year. Craig B Georgia

We just returned from a 7-day sailing charter out of Placencia with Eggie and Mateo helping us out as the captain and chef. It was hands down the best vacation experience I have had and probably will ever have. Eggie is an excellent captain, great sailor, and unbelievable fisherman. If you are looking to fish or hunt, look no further. He will put you right on the fish/lobster/conch/crab every time without fail. He also has an excellent knowledge of nearly every island so he will no doubt bring you to all the best spots. Mateo is the best chef in Belize and for my money, the best in the world. It was by far the best week of food in my life. More often than not he had whatever fish/lobster/conch we caught cooked up in a variety of ways in less than 30 minutes. Everything dish is hand-made, unbelievably fresh, and incredibly delicious. The guy simply can't miss. I cannot recommend and thank Eggie and Mateo enough. These guys truly made this trip one I will never forget. Can't wait to sail with these guys again!

We just got back from a 7 day sail and we could not have asked for a better vacation! The crew, Eggie and Mateo, absolutely made the trip and I would recommend them to anyone who is looking to sail with a captain and cook. The food Mateo prepared was phenomenal and we loved every single meal. Eggie was a great captain who was incredibly knowledgeable and made sure we were able to do everything we wanted to while on our trip including catching a lot of fish! On top of their skills and expertise, Eggie and Mateo were very friendly and personable. We are looking forward to coming back and sailing again with them some day soon!

I am the skipper in my family of five and have owned a sailboat in CA plus rented from many charter companies for day sails around the US. Regarding the Moorings, we have sailed Tahiti, Nice, St Maarten./St Barts, the British Virgin Islands and now Belize. So, if you know the Moorings then you are aware of the process, you have a tiered approach to the age of the boat. I am a mono hull person but with the family, we sail cats and the Roberts and Caine designed cats are nothing short of true luxury in every way. Belize has both so you have a choice :). So, what can i say about Belize? We don't hire skippers or chefs so i will focus on the customer service and boating experience. With any foreign trip, you always feel a bit in the dark and unsure about what to expect, regardless of how many reviews or books you read. Belize really isn't any different but...the Moorings seems to always find people to manage their locations who have passion and local knowledge. I called the local office 4 or 5 times during my planning and i was usually (personally) rushed between work and kids but immediately during each call, i was relaxed. Relaxed by the help of Diego and Mateo, they helped me plan both the Moorings and land part of my trip down to the rental vehicle and fishing tackle. Every member of the staff was calm and knowledgeable and on time for everything that we needed. Their meticulous navigation planning was clearly supportive of safety and adventure. I never once felt like i couldn't reach them if something went wrong or we had a question. Regarding the Belizean waters, well, nothing short of amazing! There a 200 Caye's (keys) in Belize and you can choose to visit most of them, there are some restricted areas due to national parks, protected areas or anything outside the reef. The barrier reef, as you likely already know, is the 2nd longest in the world and is so beautiful - you MUST get you diver certification before visiting to maximize this experience. If you don't, no problem, just do the Discovering Scuba by PADI and voila, you are diving the reef the same day! Lots of great fishing and restaurants to see. Try King Lewey's island for a fun lunch - especially with your kiddos. Hope you have a great trip and hope to see you there when we return!
