We have traveled by here many times on our trips between Placencia and San Ignacio and the family and I decided to finally stop here since we do love the hot sauce. I had read in advance that you do need to wear closed toe shoes and a long sleeve shirt (which we didn’t bring while on vacation to Belize), so I was never expecting a tour of the plant. Instead, we stopped to get some sauces for friends and family and of course, ourselves. The security guard was very friendly and he had us walk through the sanitizing station at the gate (not a problem). From there, he directed us to the store/tour building. That’s when things went downhill. Generally speaking, people are always very friendly in Belize, but this was quite the opposite when walking into the shop on 6/9/21. Not a single hello, how are you, can I help you, would you like a tour - nothing from the lady at the desk. Instead, we got a very cold welcome and death stare as if we were bugging her time on the computer. Once we got the cold shoulder, my family and I walked out after a couple minutes and will not be buying the product any longer. First impressions always stick and as the face of the factory, behind the counter at the store, they really need to hire someone who is actually friendly and welcoming. I had higher hopes, but left extremely disappointed. We won’t be stopping again.

Interesting home grown business. Tour was short and informative. They have samples at the end. Very reasonable prices in the store.

Wonderful Tour and Tasty Hot Sauce
Oct 2019
This was a place that my fiancé and I planned to visit on our trip to Belize! We love spicy food and are collector of hot sauces so when we found out we were staying down the road (at Bocawina Rainforest Resort, HIGHLY recommend) we knew we would make a stop here. Our tour guide, Dion (?) was so knowledgable and you could tell was proud to be a part of a locally made treasure. We were able to see all of the factory and kitchen and then back to the front for the tastings! There is about a dozen various flavors and they even have jams, pepper jellies and fruit wine! We tasted them all and left with some cheap treats and the fact that you can get Marie Sharp's hot sauce shipped to our home via their website. If you are in the area, this little gem is totally worth it!

Visit the facility that makes Belize's iconic hot sauce.
Jan 2019 • Couples
It seems every restaurant table in Belize has a bottle of Marie Sharp's hot sauce. As factory tours go, this one is middling. But we were guided by Marie's grand-daughter, and got to see the upgraded production facility up close. Marie herself has a great entrepreneurial story, and her brand success makes the visit especially relevant. We compared prices, and--as expected--the range goes from (high) airport shops to (medium) grocery stores to (low) factory shop. While grocery stores often have most of the flavors, the full range is available at the factory, whose shop has other mementos for sale as well.

Ok tour and visit, but only if needed

We stopped at Marie Sharp's when rain canceled some outdoor activities when traveling through Belize. We had been eating Marie Sharp's every day, so was nice to see where it was made. Tour guides were friendly, and we were able to see a lot. Nothing spectacular, but overall, a good activity for a group if you need something indoors.

Great sauce at cheap prices

You can get quality sauces here for dirt cheap, less than $2.00 US a bottle. The tour is interesting to, which takes about a half hour.

I had visited this facility years ago and it has upgraded significantly to an informative and memorable tour with a video, an excellent guide and delicious treat at the end. Definitely a worthwhile stop in Stann Creek.

pilgrimage to the hot sauce factory and gift shop
Nov 2018 • Family
My friend loves her hot sauce and dragged our two families here. We all enjoyed meeting Marie's grandson and trying ALL the hot sauces and jams as well as the fruit wine. Friendly and inviting. Informative. Great gift shop. Lots of folks getting hot sauce as gifts now :)

Interesting tour

I’d tasted many of Marie Sharp’s hot sauces before visiting so I was interested in it’s production. I tasted the preserves for the first time, a jelly with habaneros would be interesting on cheese and crackers. Tour requires you wear closed toe shoes, health code requirement. Gift store has a complete selection of her products at prices below those of stores in Belize.

Saucy Hot Cultural Occasion!
Aug 2018 • Solo
The tour of Marie Sharp’s Hot Sauce Factory was educational and entertaining! We had the pleasure and honor of meeting Marie Sharp in person! She explained how her hot sauce business began and how it has grown. Her factory is impressive. She has afforded many young women with work. In addition, we were treated to a brief history and culture of the Garifuna people including drumming and dancing! The chicken lunch was superb and allowed us to utilize the great hot sauce. During the tour of the factory we were able to sample a variety of hot sauces and marmalades. We enjoyed bus travel through the countryside of southern Belize. I highly recommend this tour.
