Not a good day for Sidewalk Sage...
Nov 2019
We note all the good reviews however we had the exact opposite. We go to pick up the 250. Normally its good bike for roads in Belize however this bike had been ridden hard and put away wet. When presented to us it was covered in jungle mud, had two broken levers and missing right mirror that had been broken off, chain had not seen oil and made horrible noises when we took off. Since our friends had dropped us off we had no transportation to get back to where we were staying. Plus it was important to us to spend a day riding so we decided to grin and bear it and go. We get the down road about 1/2 hr an hr and get stopped at highway check. The officer noticed the bike did not have brake lights nor the proper paperwork including registration. We were pretty scared as we were in foreign country. Fortunately the officer was not too bad and we negogiated the $100 fine down to $5 for a cold drink. Maybe he wasn't legit but when you are in the wrong you are not in position to argue. We called and 'Bobby" tried to convince us to keep going but we knew there other stops plus decided that the officer had a valid point about how unsafe it was not to have brake lights. Nor was the left signal light. We got back to San Igancio and got our money back as well the $5 bribe. The day however was spoiled for us since we had not transportation and it was too late to organize some thing else to do. All of this could have been avoided if there had been some time and effort spent cleaning and maintaining the bike. We recommend going to Alternate Adventures in Hopkins as we had a great experience with that company. No problems at all and two great days of riding.

Motorcycle rented 2/17/2020

Dave was very helpful when we rented the street bike, but most importantly, one of his part time employees who saw my wife and I resting on the side of the road after a slow motion tumble off the bike the next day about 4 blocks from Dave's. He escorted us back to the rental hut pushing the bike where we turned it in for a full refund, no questions asked, of the two days left on our rental. Dave and he also guided me to a massage therapist who loosened the muscles in my back and side. She then hailed us a cab out her window who took us back to where we were staying. Everyone was super friendly and helpful. I would not hesitate to recommend Dave to rent from in San Ignacio. Or the massage therapist either.
BTW: When I got back to the US, I found I had two broken ribs. I am healing just fine.

My two friends and I rented two Lifan 250’s and a 125 for two and a half days, we really enjoyed our time ripping around. Dave is a reasonable and super friendly guy who was flexible and helpful. The Chinese bikes (especially the 250’s) were definitely not in the best condition but they got the job done and Bobby helped us out with some basic maintenance before we set out.
It was so much fun!

The morning we were going to rent scooters they were all out, but were quick to provide a recommendation. After I picked up my scooter from the other location, I stopped by to chat with Dave about his recommended day tour of the area on scooter. This was one of our highlights of the trip....talking with Dave and the trip he recommended!

Dave & Bobby rented out a dirt bike for my stay in San Ignacio & couldn't have asked for a better outfit. Bike ran smoothly aside from one minor chain break (usual bike wear) which was fixed no problem by Bobby. He was out almost as soon as I called with a solution & I was back on the road no problem.

I also recommend you allot some time in your travel day to sit & have morning coffee with Dave. Extremely pleasant & a unique world view, with a few dirty jokes thrown in to boot! Warm & friendly environment, very fair prices & feel.

This place is a must if you are going to San Ignacio! there are so many places to see just outside of the city and they are almost impossible to visit but guess what this place brings them to you. Dave is an amazing guy that offers both greats suggestions on places to go but also great advice for life, he deserves the moniker sidewalk sage.

Fun experience even outside of riding a motorbike
Mar 2019 • Couples
I highly recommend you visit this place regardless of wanting to rent a motorbike. Dave has fantastic knowledge about Belize, San Ignacio and the world. He's a nice and funny chap who seems to genuinely enjoy a conversation. He helped me and my wife out with a motorbike and organized a scooter for us also, as one of us did not have a license. He set it all up, and made us feel like a priority for him. And - as mentioned often here - the "holy grail of maps" did not disappoint. We rode from San Ignacio to Xunantunich and had a multitude of magnificent stops on the way back - including food and a swim. In my opinion - a must do. You'd be paying this money anyway for a tourguide - and if you really want one for Xunantunich, you can grab one at the crank bridge. Go Dave! Thank you for facilitating an awesome last day for us in San Ignacio!

Dave set us up with an awesome bike to explore in for the day. We had a great time exploring San Ignacio for a great price. He had excellent recommendations and an all around great guy to know in San Ignacio for anything you’re looking for. I would definitely come again as he treated us like family.
