What a fantastic place! If you can, ask for Lucas, the owner, to give you a walk around the gardens. His knowledge is incredible and he will keep you entertained with a very hands on walk. We even saw howler monkeys on our walk!

We did a self-guided tour and it was fantastic. A note on getting there: We were staying in San Ignacio town and while the first taxi wanted to charge $60 US just to take us one way, we asked another driver and he took us there, waited the hour and a half while we walked around, and then brought us... Our tour guide told us about the medicinal properties of several of the plants. This made the visit not only beautiful, but informative. But even without the medicinal plant information, the gardens are a beautiful way to spend a few hours.

Down the dirt road..... near Chaa Creek, adjacent to Du Plooys, a truly beautiful, well maintained, well planned, informative Botanical Garden. With you $7.50 entrance fee you receive a informative book that gives you a self guided tour and information on the native, indigenous and common plantings. Take your time to stroll and enjoy the garden. Then have lunch at... More

This is a great garden, but check ahead to be sure that you will see a lot in bloom. In March, none of the deciduous trees had leaves, and few flowers were in bloom. That said, Josh described the medicinal properties of probably 20+ plants we saw, as well as talking about the history of Belize and the Maya.

My friend and I visited here from Chaa Creek and were given a terrific tour by Lewis, one of the gardeners. He filled us in on the history of the place and told us about the specimens and a bit about local Mayan culture. If you like gardens or have any interest in plants, this was worth the visit. We... In February it is winter and many plants are dormant. Hence, few blooms even in the orchid house. But some nice walks. We did not engage a guide but I now think it would have been helpful.

We very much enjoyed our outing to the Belize Botanic Gardens, which we combined with a walk around DuPlooy's Jungle Garden Lodge. Our main focus was bird watching rather than botany but we enjoyed both places. Staff were pleasant at both places, setting out fresh fruit at DuPlooys and showing us the roosting spot of the Northern Potoo bird at... More

We stayed in San Ignacio and this place is a bit of a drive out of town. No problem if you have a rented vehicle, but $40 bz each way for a taxi, plus a few more so he waits around for you makes this a little expensive.
