We were staying in the black rock area and decided to drive over to Chaa Creek lodge to see their natural history museum and blue morpho butterfly farm. For a minimal fee, we were guided through the small museum which had information on the archaeological history of the area, as well as the local flora and fauna. Our guide then took us to the butterfly house to see the blue morphos. The house was absolutely filled with the bright, iridescent aqua blue flutterings and was lovely to behold. It was very interesting to learn about the difference in the markings and the hatching process.

The Chaa Creek restaurant was open to guests, so we stopped in for a nice lunch. All in all, worth the detour if you're in the area.

This hotel was recommended by a friend. As soon as we arrive to Belize, the driver for the hotel was waiting for us. Edward had a great knowledge of the area and the country and we stopped to have lunch at a local restaurant.

It was our honeymoon for us and the staff of the hotel made sure we had the best time. They are very helpful with anything you need. The customer service was the best part of our stay in the hotel.

Do all the tours that the hotel offers. Bird watching in the early morning, evening tour for animal watching, the butterfly at the top of the hill. Walk to the river and canoe upstream. You can pumped into the hauler monkeys. If you go to San Ignacio, take a canoe ride down the river with a hotel staff guide (2 hrs).

The food was amazing. From breakfast to dinner. Very very top quality. Saul makes amazing drinks in the Bar.

Overall it was the perfect start to our honeymoon. We will always recommend this place.

This place is very calming and respectful of it's natural surroundings. The butterfly farm was the most amazing. We saw the Blue Morpho and the Owl Butterflies. We were able to be amongst them. Our guide told us about the life cycle of these butterflies. We even saw butterfly eggs.

Loved the butterfly sanctuary. Very knowledgable and friendly guide. We didn’t call ahead to book a tour, but they recommend that you do. Easy drive from San Ignacio and surrounding area. Stop to eat at Benny’s in Succotz for local food.

I finally got to see the NHM at Chaa Creek, and wow, was it worth it. It was a great 5 minute hike up the hill to get to it. Meshack, the guide, was outstanding. Talk about a wealth of information! He knows the insects, birds(he also leads birding adventures), wildlife, culture, and history like nobody else.

They have quite the insect display there too. They also have a really neat bird nest exhibit. You'll get to see some of the snakes found in Belize too, although they are preserved, and not alive. There are displays of Mayan artifacts, which have some neat stories of their own. You can also see a replication of what an ancient Mayan abode might have looked like. You can take a picture under all the masks as you leave.

After the NHM, Meshack also showed me their butterfly farm, which is impressive considering they have thousands of butterflies in various states. You can learn all about blue morphos there.

I'll definitely be taking friends there.

Lots of steps to the museum and butterfly house. Got a ride back down, but if you have knee replacements or need them, best to get a lift!

If you're out and about in the San Jose Succotz area, this is a great little stop. We did it after spending the morning at Xunantunich. You don't need more than about an hour, but the butterfly hut is worth it and the naturalists on staff were knowledgeable and friendly.

Mayan sites are all over Belize. This is a quaint little museum next to the butterfly center. Provides a nice synopsis of Belizian history. We were already staying at the Lodge at Chaa Creek so was convenient.

We went just for the day, did the medicinal trail and canoed back to San Ignacio. The location is a bit out of town, but we were picked up by the staff of Chaa Creek, who were very helpful. The property is beautiful and breathtaking. We were given such a wonderful tour of the medicinal trail, with our guide being VERY knowledgeable. We did visit the bar, which had great drinks and even better service. The canoeing was great, stress free, and SO relaxing. While we didn't stay there, it definitely gave off a calming, relaxing vibe, and I would recommend it for anyone looking to get away from it all.

The blue morpho butterfly is a beauty to behold. It was very interesting hearing about how they are raised here at Chaa Creek. Glad they no longer sell them for release at weddings, etc. This was the best review of the complete life cycle of the butterfly I have ever heard or seen. They have living examples of each stage and show them to you close up. For the nature lover!
