We booked a private tour to the Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve spontaneously with Belize Family Adventure which they arranged for us for a reasonable price despite the Easter holidays.
Our guide was very knowledgeable and experienced and hence chose a wise order for visiting the Big Rock Fall, Rio on Pools, the Rio Frio Cave and a secret waterfall to avoid the crowds. A tasty, local lunch was included.
We had a fantastic day!

This is a tour not to be missed. It is incredible to see the cave, Mayan artifacts and skeletal remains. There is a short hike to the cave and you cross the river 3 times to get to it, so expect to be wet for the entire tour as the cave is also wet for much of it. We had all ages in our group; teens to 65+ and everyone was able to complete the tour without difficulty. It would not consider this strenuous if you are in any shape at all.

We did a the day trip from San Ignacio to Tikal, all transfers were seamless, and even the wait for the border into Guatamala was relatively short. The beauty and immensity of Tikal is really difficult to appreciate until you've been there and climbed these monuments by yourself. We walked over 5 miles during our tour and barely scratched the surface of the park. The views from above treeline were simply stunning and reiterated what a massive multi-generational project this was. The Mayan civilization simply owned this entire section of Central America, and the spectacle of these ruins built in 8th, 9th, and 10 century AD is staggering. Please go...

For the price, I didn’t like it. I did the ATM. Find another outfitter that does this tour. I was told I could pay by credit card and they didn’t take payment until after excursion. When I go to pay they told me cash only. Talk about tricking someone!!! I won’t use they again because they is bad business to trick your customers for profit.

Hun Chi'ik Tours was recommended to us by a travel company. Unfortunately, our experience in 2015 was terrible. For a travel industry professional, they charged us above full rate for the tour (over $100), they substitute tour operators (we were told one tour guide would be doing the tour only to find another show up), they picked us up in a run-down van that could not properly navigate the Belize roads, they tricked other travellers who booked the ATM tour with a different tour operator to get in their van, their equipment was old, and the "lunch" was a tortilla with one slice of deli meat and celery and carrot sticks. Unsurprisingly, the individual that runs the "office" in San Ignacio followed us around the town the next few days trying to sell us additional "good deals" and "discounted" taxi rides.

The ATM is beautiful and should be seen when visiting Belize, but do not use Hun Chi'ik Tours. Their price is not competitive for the ATM tour. It is especially not competitive for travel industry professionals.

Starts with a hike along a river and through a dry cave. Passes tropical vegetation including cashew trees. Float into the cave and the views are striking. I was almost expecting there to be an Exit door like it was a Disney ride. Views of a sinkhole in the center. Note: If you are afraid of bats, there are bats - none bothered us.

We did it with Maya Walk tours and our guide was Hew who was excellent guide - helpful, sociable and full of knowledge. Would go with him again. Tour was well organized, all service was good and people friendly. Also we had good and nice bus. After about 1 hour ride we reached the destination. There was possible to buy water and socks on the way. We were given helmets with lamps and had to leave everything you do not want to get wet in the bus. There were good quality toilets and changing rooms at the parking lot. Right after the start there was the first and deepest river to cross. You get all wet. There is rope to help you and you can take life vest at the parking lot. There are more two crossings with low water. Before the cave you have to leave everything behind including water bottle in order to have hands free. You can take very small backpack if you can not be without water but it will get totally wet. You have to swim some metres to enter the cave. And there will be more walking in the water, may be little swimming. Going through narrow spaces and climbing over rocks. There is one boulder to cross, 2.5 m high. But it is doable as guides show the technic. After that you have to continue in socks or barefoot. Socks make it softer. There is also ladder to climb, not complicated at all. In general temperature is over 20 C and it felt warm when moving. I felt a little chilly when standing and listening. I had long sleeves and would wear it again but would change long pants for shorts. Pick quickly trying materials and wear water shoes or something which stand water for 2 hours. You can change clothes after tour and you will be served simple lunch. Do not use sunblock or bug spray. You do not need those and only pollute rivers and the cave. All in all very interesting experience; real history by your side and beautiful caves. Must do in Belize!

Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable. He had an amazing breath and depth of knowledge of Tikal and Guatemala. The site on it's own was awe inspiring but our guide made it a transcendent experience.

We booked the ATM Cave tour with Carlos the Caveman based on Tripadvisor reviews, and are so glad we did! Carlos was very accommodating (we were flying to/from San Pedro so were at the mercy of Tropic Airlines and weather delays), educational and passionate! Here are the highlights of our tour:

1) We were traveling with another couple and were pleased to find out that it was just the four of us on our tour with Carlos. We saw much larger groups in the cave - I swear I counted one with 12-15! The size of our group allowed us to have a very personal feel.

2) From the start of our tour it was an adventure! The landscape is so beautiful and Carlos was educating us the entire way. Less than 5 minutes into our hike we were swimming across a river. Along the hike we got to taste different plants, eat a termite or two (good protein according to Carlos) and learn about the history of the Maya. Carlos is so incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about the culture.

3) The cave itself was an incredible and mystifying experience - a workout for both your body and mind. Swimming/wading through the underground river, climbing up, down and through crevices (some a pretty tight fit!), seeing the beautiful stalactite/stalagmite formations and finally ending in the chamber that contained the Mayan artifacts and human remains. All along the way Carlos continued to educate, inspire awe of the environment (encouraging us to "Follow your heart") and guide us safely through the terrain.
..........
For this tour I recommend wearing a pair of hiking/tennis shoes that you don't mind getting soaked and muddy, a long-sleeve swim shirt/rash guard, swim trunks for guys/longer shorts or leggings for gals. You will be soaked the entire time. You also need to wear socks as you are required to remove your shoes to enter the chamber with the artifacts/remains. Carlos provides life jackets, helmets and headlamps.

I highly recommend booking your tour(s) with Carlos. This was one of the best excursions I have ever been on!

We toured ATM in January with an awesome guide, Adam Patrick Warrior. It's strenuous but not terribly challenging. There are so many facets to the experience. Just getting there requires three river crossings, not difficult, but they propel you instantly into adventure mode. Literally swimming into the cave is a once in a lifetime experience, and the three miles of wading/walking through the underground river is surreal. You gradually see the glittering stalagtites/mites and things just get wild. The massive chamber called the "cathedral" was appropriately named because it makes you feel like worshiping the earth. Then, of course, there are all the Mayan artifacts in situ. All in all, this was the most memorable of our experiences during a 10 day visit to Belize.
