Belize Archaeology Tours was booked through our resort and we lucked out with owner Danny Portillo. Our tour of the ATM cave was incredible. Great historical info from Danny, access to artifacts that you have to see to believe and a guide who knows every step of the cave. Like a spectacular museum that you can hike, swim and crawl through ATM does not disappoint!! A special thanks for our delicious lunch!!

We had an amazing tour with Danny to the ATM caves. He was on time and explained everything well and gave us a lot of information about the mayan history and the rituals which took part there earlier. The cave itself is very impressive and I felt honored that it's still open to the public. It was an adventure to enter the cave by swimming and walking the first part in the water through the small holes. Later we had to climb up a little to get to the "main hall" of the cave where no shoes were allowed. Danny was helpful and assisted while we had to climb up. You should be at least in a moderate physical condition to enjoy this impressive cave. Thanks a lot!

We've never been in an actual cave before and we've read that the actun tunichil muknal (ATM) is supposed to be one of the most beautiful and interesting ones you can visit. So we we're very excited and I have to say the experience lived up to what we were promised. The whole thing was unique, and Dany did a great job showing us around. Being not very talkative in the beginning, he warmed up as soon as we got close to the site and did a great job showing us around, of course talking a lot about the cave itself but also giving us insights into what being a cave guide for the ATM cave is like. It was super interesting and he was fun and very knowledgable about any kind of question we asked. Interestingly, there is only a very limited amount of guides for the ATM, so the few that you go with do this tour every day, sometimes multiple times per day, and have been doing so for many many years already, so you can feel a certain routine and soberness there, which is a pity, however, they keep the ATM from being too flooded with tourists this way. As we had another tourist in our group who had to catch a plane back to Belize city, we had a little rush in our group but overall spent I think 2-3 hours in the cave which was definitely enough. And we were only 3 people so definitely recommend going early November when it's not busy yet, it was very personal and relaxed in this group size. If you're into visiting caves or want to do it for the first time, I'd definitely recommend it and Dany is a great guide for it.

Such an amazing experience discovering the ATM caves. Don't be intimidated by the physical demands for this adventure... as long as you are able to swim for short distances and do not get nervous about being in enclosed spaces, you will be fine! This is seriously one of the best experiences I've had during my travels. I signed up for this tour alone and was a bit nervous about it but Danny was such a great guide and did not make me feel left out! Excellent service and overall experience!

We originally booked with a different company but Danhy stepped up to take the 3 of us when our original company had taken on 1 too many persons. Danny was an excellent guide. He was very knowledgable and clearly cared about the subject matter in the caves. It should be noted this is a Moderate difficulty tour. If you cannot swim or are unable to hike through low light situations and on rocks at a fast-ish pace this is not the tour for you. Some portions of the cave are very tight. There is a lot of ground to cover and Danhy works hard to make sure all of his guests get the same experience and do not get held back because of 1 or 2 guests. He will push you through he cave so that time can be spent learning about the history of the cave. We met some people who did not have as good of experiences as us - honesty this was not the tour they should have taken. This tour is do-able for all ages (we saw people from about 8 to 80 in the cave) but we watched people pay a lot of money to turn around at the very beginning because they did not understand what touring a cave meant. Danhy is very invested in the cave and its protection and history. He is stern when needed and will not let his guests act in a way that will damage the cave or artifacts. He is very clear about this from the beginning.
