As a solo traveller I couldn’t find any group to join for this challenging tour. Abel offered to do a private tour for me at a rate well below the usual 2 person minimum. His brother Pedro guided and provided a great experience. The Crystal (aka Mountain Cow) Cave is filled with fantastic formations but it is not for everyone as it involves scrambling up and down over damp slippery limestone sometimes coated with clay to make it even more slippery. As a rock climber and mountaineer I am used to dealing with difficult terrain. Once Pedro assessed my movement skills we made a very extensive tour of the cave including a seldom visited section where we took our shoes off to preserve the pristine condition of the rock. In conversation it came out that Pedro is taking a leadership role in rehabilitating local tourist resources. I highly recommend that you use the services of Upside Down Tours.

My significant other and I went on the ruins tour with an amazing tour guide, Marvin. We both approached this activity as something we "should" do while in Belize. It ended up being our favorite day out of our 10 day trip. This was the day we felt like we actually left the resort and got to see and experience the country of Belize. The ruins were amazing, something you can't understand unless you've seen. What really made the difference was Marvin. He was so extremely knowledgeable, answering all our questions and providing tons of facts and information. He conveyed the information in a way that was not overwhelming, but by the end of the day I felt like I had an entire semesters worth of history under my belt. He took us to a local restaurant, Benny's, for lunch and provided awesome recommendations on what to try. I was nervous about getting sick from the street food, neither of us did. On our way back to the resort, Marvin went out of his way and took extra time to take us to the capital and even let us stop at a local market to buy a couple snacks. We had the best day, would 10/10 recommend!!

Our family of 5 visited lovely Belize in March 2019. We split our week between the jungle and Ambergris Caye. When all was said and done, we all agreed that our private tour of Mayan ruins with Upside Down Tours was our most memorable experience. From the moment we were picked up by our tour guide, Marvin, at the Sleeping Giant Lodge until the moment we returned, everyone had a wonderful time. Marvin is a very knowledgeable local, with a special interest in Mayan history and local flora and fauna. His calm wisdom and encyclopedic knowledge combined with a genuine interest in the enjoyment of his guests made this hands down our favorite activity of the trip. We climbed to the top of a Mayan temple, explored its architecture and hidden rooms, learned the history of the Mayan people from ancient times to the impact on modern mestizo culture and sampled traditional (delicious and safely prepared) food at a locals restaurant for lunch. Marvin taught us about the circumstances of his local community and efforts to preserve the natural resources of his home country. We even got a bonus tour of a local chocolate maker’s establishment and learned about the role cacao has played over the centuries. One taste of fresh cocoa nibs and homemade chocolate prepared from scratch before our eyes completely changed our perspective on this food favorite. My high. Chill aged daughter was so inspired by the activity that she devoted much of her college application assay to what she learned from Marvin. It was truly an amazing experience. We strongly recommend Upside Down Tours in Belize.

I’m an expedition caver from California, and visiting Crystal Cave has been the highlight of our time here in Belize so far. I’ve seen some of the deepest and most beautiful caves in the world on scientific and mapping expeditions, and I can say without reservation that this cave is not to be missed. It’s not just impressive in terms of Belize (which it certainly is), but impressive by standards extending well outside those borders. Even the hike to the cave from the visitor center is gorgeous. The Ceremonial Chamber and Wonderland beyond it are some of the most well-decorated you’ll find. Gorgeous draperies, columns, stalactites and stalagmites, helictites, and some more unusual speleothems: corroded stalagmites. In the more open area in the back of the Ceremonial Chamber are two stalagmites that, while I didn’t have my survey equipment (this was a tour, after all), I’d conservatively estimate at 10-12m in height. Our guide, Bernaby Burgos, was absolutely top-notch. He knows the cave and routes, the archaeology, the stories of the place; but beyond that and most importantly, he’s got a genuine passion for both caving and conservation. He cares about the place deeply, and this shines through in the tour in ways that really make the whole experience something special. This tour is an absolute must for anyone visiting Belize who appreciates caves and caving, I can’t recommend it highly enough.

This Guide service was very personable and easy to work with. We reserved our preferred day and custom time a week before our trip to Belize by email. We chose to meet him at the Blue Hole National Park (best for us). The price of the park ( for river cave float and Blue Hole) were both included in the price of the tour. Having the guide made all the difference in being able to access the different parts of the cave and hearing about the history of the Cave and the Mayan People. He also was sure to point out all the different types of formations growing in the Cave. Pedro made a point to interact with each member of our group and knew us all by name. He truly made this short 2 hour tour a memorable part of our Belize Jungle Experience. We felt like it was a great value. Highly Recommend Upside Down Tours.

My wife and I went on a deep caving tour of the Crystal Cave. Our guide Jose was highly experienced, very pleasant, and knowledgeable about the cave geography, its history and also all the points of interest. My wife fell and hurt her ankle (subsequently we found it was a stress fracture) and he helped us safely navigate the rest of the cave, and even cut her a walking stick for the hike back to the parking lot. The cave itself was an amazing if slightly treacherous adventure, but we were very glad to have experienced it all with Jose's help. Highly recommended for the athletic and adventurous (although they have more limited tours for those who do not want to go all the way to Wonderland section).

Breathtaking views while kayaking through surreal caves made this experience great. However, what made this trip unforgettable were the amazing guides who were genuine, friendly, fun, and always made sure we were comfortable and having a great time. Was absolutely a 10/10 adventure, I recommend this to anyone who is looking for an epic, unique, and unforgettable trip.
P.S. thank you so much to our guides Barnabe and Kevin.

We went with Upsidedown Tours Abel Garcia WhatsApp number is 634-5385, email is info@upsidedowntours.com.
Wonderful organization, easy and fast communication.
Our family of 4 peoples (my girls are 16 and 19) loved the experience. You should be in good physical condition to enjoy the beauty of the cave.
Our guide Pedro was great. He was patient with us taking multiple pictures and videos. He shared with us interesting info about Mayan history and the cave.

The Mayan Ruin Tour is a must see. Spending the day with our tour guide Marvin was like being back in school on a field trip. So fun! The information he shared about the Mayan History was extremely interesting. He then took us to lunch at a popular restaurant with the locals. Yummy! On the way back to the SGL, we stopped at Lamanai Chocolate and Coffee house. Thanks Marvin!

We had a fabulous time in the inland blue hole national park spelunking in the crystal cave. We were lucky enough to meet the owner of this company when we accidentally got off the bus at the wrong location and he offered to drive us to our lodge! What a blessing to meet because we then learned about this crystal cave tour. It was intense!! Took about six hours total an hour each way in the jungle and four sweaty lovely hours seeing all the stalactites and stalagmites, Mayan artifacts. Our guide was great placing my feet in just the right places in the cave and helping us all along. 10 out of 10 would recommend.
