We stopped off while driving the butterfly road. There's a park employee there collecting a small fee to visit and there's a gate to close the parking lot after hours. There's changing rooms and restrooms there.
The pool area is small and they've built a cement entry and viewing area. There's really not much there, but it's a great spot to stop off and take a quick swim to cool down.

We stopped at the Blue Hole as part of our tour to Xuanantunich. We were the only ones there. It was kind of neat with the jungle all around it. There were small fish swimming in it and they didn't seem to be bothered by humans. The water felt a bit cool so we got in for a few minutes, basically to say that we did it. There are bathrooms (not very nice) and changing rooms (better than bathrooms). I wouldn't make a special trip to go there but it was on our way.

A nice way to kill a bit of time. This activity is really cheap. I think it was $4BZD per person. The area is very clean and easy to access. It closes at 4PM, but you don't need a whole lot of time here. You can swim in the Blue Hole, the water is not cold. There are some stairs, so anyone with mobility issues may have a bit of trouble.

Entry fee if ~$4 BZ/ person.
We only stopped to visit the Blue Hole, and admittedly did not spend the hour plus required for the trails and associated items in the rest of the park.
The Hole, however, was not visually impressive. For less athletic or smaller children, there are ~ 50 to 80 concrete stairs to traverse to get down to the Hole. The water was frigid (as of Dec 28) and there is little to do once you are there.

We arrived after the Cave visit with only 10 minutes to walk down and put our feet in the water hole. It was pretty. The other reviews will have more details. Worth the $4 BZ per person to see it. Would probably be worth more time too but the park closed at 4:00 and we arrived at 3:50! It was a long day and we wanted to see it.

We were travelling from Belmopan to Placencia and this was the perfect stop on the way. We only did the short hike down some stairs to the blue hole as well as the short jungle-walk called the "Hummingbird-Loop" after. The latter took us about an hour with frequent stops to take pictures etc.
It is an easy hike through a nice little piece of jungle, but not too exicting overall. We did not really see any animals and you can hear the road throughout the hike.
There was an entrance fee to do so, not sure if it was BZD 5 or 10 anymore, though. We got the tickets at the official main entrance and than continued in the car to the separate parking for the blue hole (about 2km further east).
Bring mosquito spray for the hike!

Nice, cool rfershing spot to stay a couple of hours. There's a cool trail to hike on to. There were too many mosquitoes for my daughter so we only went about 1/4 through LOL...we LOVED the swim though.

It's a lot of fun to swim and explore the park. One parking lot allows you to access the swimming hole and some trails, while the other connects to other trails and the visitor's center. The swimming hole gets more sun in the afternoon, but is less busy in the morning. We had it all to ourselves around 9 a.m. If doing the hikes, be sure to use bug repellent.

Great quick stop after cave tubing. We pretty much had it to ourselves, which was nice. Bring your snorkel mask! You can use it to peer into the water to see the underground cave entrance (blue area).

At first I went to the cave, there are two ways to get there; the highlands and the lowlands, and I took the low road. It was an easy enjoyable walk that took about 20 minutes. I also went for the unguided tour; if you want the guided one it can take four hours and requires getting wet, down and dirty. There is a crystal cave too, but that is several more hours and more dirt. It sounds like fun for another trip.
Next there is the “Blue Hole”; this has two trails one that take you around through the jungle for one mile giving you a chance to see many birds and other wildlife, or you can walk about five minutes down some stairs to a beautiful lagoon. The lagoon has two parts; one goes into a cave with bats, stalactites and dripping water from the ceiling, the other has delightful turquoise blue water inviting you in for a cool swim. I went early Sunday morning and I had the place to myself this I highly recommend.
You can spend a little more than an hour to all day. I spent three hours; it was a delightful way to spend a morning.

Is there somewhere I can leave my bag whilst visiting the National Park? It's a airline hand luggage size back pack? I dont mind paying a reasonable fee. Thanks
Written March 2, 2020
Hi there are no lockers avail buy if nothing valuable in bag maybe arrange to leave with the park keepers or the person that you will pay the entrance fee to.How are you planning to get there? If by bus then that would be your choice but if in a vehicle then in it.

Hi! I am wondering if it is possible to rent tubes on-site and tour the caves unguided or if this activity requires a guides? Thanks!

If you are wolling to tour the Blue Hole and the Cavevnearby on your own that is not a problem. We did it on our own because he did take some flashlights and headlights with us so we managed on out own. Not very complicated tour on your own. But guides provides headlights if you wish to do so but only for the cave

Are dogs on a leash allowed for hiking?
Written March 9, 2017
THe outside section I'm sure would allow dogs, the great adventure is walking through the caves that a dog could not manage.

I would like to stop here while traveling from Belize City to San Ignacio. I will have my backpack luggage with me, are there any safe storage areas? Lockers? Thank you :)

The Bluehole National Park is about 13 miles from Belmopan, But its on the Hummingbird HWY, you will either need to catch a bus to drop you off there, or hire a taxi or tour operator to carry you there or rent your own car. There are no lockers there to put your things, but perhaps you could leave them with the park rangers. To get to the blue Hole you have to go down some 100 steps, from where you pay. to get to the near by cave you have a 10 minute walk from the park rangers building.

Look to be at site by mid morning . . . the ride out is the kicker. Parks personnel are on site no later than 8 and BH diving shut down happens when Park people pack it in at 4ish . . . the dive is worth it in spite of "rights of passage" coments or the OK visibility . . . it's the entire day out there that is the dive experience and it does not disappoint . . . ensure your charter has the permits in advance then you just boat directly to site . . . enjoy . . .

So I have looked around briefly and did not see a way to ride an inner tube into the cave. Am I miss reading your review?
Written April 10, 2016
You would need to walk into the St. Herman's Cave with your tube and walk up further into the cave to then float back down. This cave is different to other well know caves which have a specific entrance and different exit. This cave you have one specific entrance where you would first venture to then float back to the same location you went into the cave.
