About
Green Hills Butterfly Ranch is the premier Live Butterfly Exibit in Belize. Green Hills literally has thousands of live butterflies on display in a 4,000 square feet walk-in flight area. See the full metamorphosis from egg to adult butterfly. The photo opportunities are unlimited. The tour of the butterfly flight area and the Caterpillar Center takes about an hour. The facilities are surrounded by a botanical garden with more than 150 plants, shrubs and trees. There is a hummingbird viewing and photographic area where the average visitor can easily see a multitude of species. During the visit you are welcome to take advantage of the covered picnic area and clean restrooms. WiFi is freely available. Green Hills is worth a stop on your way to or from other popular destinations such as the Mountain Pine Ridge, Barton Creek, Caracol or the nearby villages of San Antonio and El Progresso. We open at 9am and close at 4 pm every day of the year.

Beautiful Visit - Make it One of Yours
Mar 2020
A lovely stop off, with enclosures where a great number of butterflies whirl and jink around you, including the owl butterfly, blue morpho, and many others. Good personnel whom will also show you the breeding programme, and alongside there's a great sit-watch the hummingbirds

Stunning display of butterflies and hummingbirds
Jan 2020 • Family
This is a gem of a place, with a fantastic display of beautiful butterflies. Sit and relax watching the hummingbirds or bring a picnic. A must do visit if you’re in the area or en route to Caracol. By visiting you’re helping to preserve the forest. Well done to the whole team and new management.

Great experience for kids, big and small :-)
Jul 2019
We stopped off en-route back to our hotel after visiting Barton Creek Caves and this was a great experience for us all. The owners were very friendly and knowledgeable and were happy to spend time chatting about wildlife in general, not just butterflies. There were many hummingbirds to be seen here as well. We even got to see monkeys in the trees. Our kids enjoyed seeing the life cycle of the numerous butterflies and all the amazing colors on display. This is a great place to visit if you want to see some nature.

Wonderful journey into the butterfly lifecycle
Aug 2019 • Friends
Spent time with Robin, Eric and team understanding the process they at they undertake to catch, breed and export butterflies to some of the premier zoos in America. Fascinating!!! The butterfly display is amazingly relaxing, as is watching the multitudes of hummingbirds eating off the feeders. They’ve also got a semi-resident howler monkey that we had the pleasure of seeing up close. Overall a great time here!

Great butterflies but 5 star hummingbirds
Jul 2019 • Family
We visited with children and had a good time. Very hot day, knowledgeable staff and it is nice to see the place building itself up again.
The hummingbirds though were the highlight and we watched them for a few hours as the drank nectar and dive bombed us. A lovely morning

We had a great time seeing all of the beautiful butterflies and learning about the full life cycle of butterflies native to Belize. The staff was very knowledgable and friendly and the grounds are very pretty, set in the middle of the rainforest.

A fascinating butterfly factory
Apr 2019 • Couples
We visited on a very hot day 40 Celsius. The tour was fascinating and they took us through where they keep the adults in a huge enclosure where they collect eggs. Then they raise caterpillars in cages feeding and cleaning them every day. Also, more hummingbirds than I thought existed in the whole world. Very enjoyable. The ranch is not closed as has been reported but is in new hands having been sold to new operators.

Fantastic visit
Feb 2019 • Couples
The Green Hills Butterfly Ranch is a great place to visit and see all of the work that the amazing staff put into taking care of all the different species of butterflies they have. After walking through the butterfly house our guide explained all of the different steps they take each day to grow the butterflies through the metamorphosis cycle.
