We figured that this is the best way to announce that we arrived to Belize!
Only few people when we arrived. They were very considerate and took quick selfies then left. We took literately two minutes, also.
It seems that the letters are painted once in a while to different color/pattern.

We were lucky enough to be the only ones there when we got to the terminal early in the morning. When we got back from our excursions there were masses of people flocked around the sign so it might take a while to take your pic.
It's the same sign as all other ports have, but my cousin collects photos of all the sign so well, go ahead and take a picture.

I always love taking the “tourist or Insta” shot when I am traveling. The sign wasn’t as big as I thought it would be. Going during the day is probably best, there weee a lot of people hanging out at night. Just being careful, we had a group of 4 ladies. Also the lighthouse is 1 minute away and worth the quick walk to it. Again - not large at all but kind of cool how the bulb burns Rex about every 4 seconds. It was brutal trying to get the shot with the iPhone delay at dark! Also if you are driving - the one way streets are a bit tricky near the sign, I would get close and park, when you pass sign on your right, there is parking past the lighthouse - if you pass it you are on a one way road :)

Visiting the southern tip to take pictures of the sign is quick and easy. Relatively safe area of town vs. the south side of the river/canal. Try to go midday so the sun doesn’t ruin your attempts at getting a proper picture. Total time needed is less than five minutes.

Cute sign and a bit unassuming but the pics come out great! Apparently people don't really go by road names but on the map it's at the intersection of Buttonwood Bay Blvd and Seashore Dr. You can walk along the boardwalk until you see it at the very end. Fun pics!!

A must see if visiting Belize City! We stayed at the Radisson and it was only a short walk to the sign.

Stopped by on a cruise stop. It is about a 5 minute walk from Terminal 1 in port. We felt very safe. There is a smoothie shop right across from the sign and they are so nice and welcoming. The smoothie was awesome.

It is just a sign, so be over it. These are all over the place but I wouldn't really seek it out just for a photo unless you are close.

The sign is in a nice location just outside the cruise port looking out to the sea. We took the opportunity to take photos and see the nearby lighthouse too.

There is nothing much do in Belize City. The market is closed during our visit thus, we continue our walk along the seaside and came at this monument. I don't recommend walking here at night even if there were more people with you, the location is a bit dodgy.

Can this tour be booked as soon as we arrive at the airport before going to San Pedro?
Written May 23, 2019
I'm laughing as many people have indicated that you can walk to the sign, but they clearly overlooked the fact that you're arriving by plane!
Depending on the length of your layover, check out Discovery Expeditions or S&L Travel and Tours who offer Belize City tours.
You can get customised tours anywhere from 2.5 to 4 hours long that could include the city zoo &/or the museum.
It also depends on the day you arrive as some of the sites close on a weekend. We did our tour on a Saturday afternoon and the city was pretty dead - market and 95% of the shops closed and no cruise ship in port so no street vendors. So our tour was mainly a drive through downtown, the nice part of town, the slums, the cemetery. Compared with other cities there is not really much to do or see here.
The sign, whilst rather a corny touristy thing to see, is probably the most interesting thing there is in Belize City apart from appreciating the beautiful old architecture.
Otherwise, honestly, if you simply booked your onward flight without going into the city, you actually won't be missing out on anything much, other than one more town to add to your travel list.

Does anyone know if it is safe to take a taxi from port to the Belize sign and lighthouse?
Written August 3, 2018
It’s perfectly safe. There is an older gentleman there a lot of times who will tell you the history of Belize. He’s a wanderer, so be sure to offer him a little money when he’s done. We had a great time in Belize City. :)

You'd have to drive from the airport to Belize City (roughly 15-20 min at most).
The northern sign would probably be fastest to see if you just wanted to get in take a picture and get out. It's in a residential area and you won't encounter much traffic or people, parking should be easy as well.
If you choose to go to the Southern sign you'll also see the lighthouse but may encounter more traffic, trouble parking near the sign, etc.
Just depends what your agenda is, I guess.

Is it within walking distance from where the ships arrive?
Written November 3, 2016
Yes and no (but yes). There is one in the south near Fort St by the lighthouse a short walk from where the water taxis and ships arrive and there is another up north (sea shore dr) in a residential area. The northern one is what pips up on google maps and more commonly referred to. They are both exactly the same apart from their location. Both are located within/near a park if you want to picnic. Unless you have your own vehicle, I wouldn't bother going to the northern one. We visited both just to make sure they weren't different. The southern one (by tourism village/water taxis) is near the lighthouse and Fort George Park is close too so you'll get more bang as a tourist on that one.

How far away from cruise dock is the sign? How much for cab ride to it? Thanks for your help.
Written December 28, 2015
We were not on a cruise, our guide David from Cave Tubing R Us offered to take us there on the way back to the municipal airport. He said it was a great picture and it was.
