We visited on a weekday afternoon, hardly any other visitors. The Museum is housed in the old colonial prison, but you would never know. Your suggested path begins with a frank 'discussion' and exhibit of the role that slavery paid here. We found it engaging....More

Amazed at the room that up to 6 people would share. A great history lesson on the slaves and the creole language. I always wondered why their accent sounded very close to a Jamaican patois.

I was looking for an art or history museum. When I got inside it smelled like mold and generally the museum had a makeshift kind of appearance. When I asked the guide what is inside, it sounded a bit boring.

This museum in the old jail is informative, interesting and eclectic. We really enjoyed it all. The local art exhibition on the ground floor was an added bonus and the displays on slavery and colonisation were moving and well presented.

I loved the museum. It is dimly lit in certain areas but otherwise a very enriching experience. The front desk person was very helpful and there is free WiFi if you’d like to upload photos instantly. Do not miss the upstairs portion, especially if you...More

It's a pretty small museum but for $5 USD, it was a nice way to kill some time out of the sun. Spent about an hour and a half there, could be completed in under an hour truly. There were only 3 exhibits when I...More

The Belize Museum is a small but well-presented exhibition space in what used to be the mail jail. Mayan (and other) history is well done and the sad sections on the slave trade are important reminders of the past. Recommended for a brief visit at...More

I'd disagree with the other posters. Belize City is not the safest place, and taking a wrong turn (even in day time) can lead you to places where you might feel insecure. Take a cab (they're inexpensive).

YES! All areas are easy to navigate, the streets outside may be trickier though
