The Belize Zoo is an institution that cares for over 150 native wildlife, and promotes Conservation, Education, Recreation, and Research. It is also the first nature destination in Belize that is accessible to visitors with physical disabilities.

We are committed to the conservation of Belize's wildlife and its habitats through the establishment of a well maintained zoological facility and education center, both poised to bring about a greater environmental awareness to the people living in Belize, and to visitors from abroad.

TBZ believes that by bringing the people closer to the animals, which are their natural heritage, they will feel proud of these special resources, and wish to protect them for future generations.

All Zoo "residents" were once pets; donated to the Zoo; rescues found injured, abandoned or orphaned and brought in rehabilitation; or born at the Zoo.

The Belize Zoo receives no financial support from the Government of Belize, and generates funding to care for its residents through admission fees, tours, donations, and adoption and membership programs.

This zoo is a mid size zoo with a nice variety of animals from Belize, you will not find animals from other countries as you see them in other Zoos. There are maps available at the reception that will guide you. You must bring bug repellent because are there are different ponds for turtles, caimans and crocs, there are many... More

A small intimate zoo with all native animals - mostly rescued. The jaguar encounter was really incredible. To be that close to a jaguar was a unique and memorable experience. The kids (teen agers) were completely enthralled by Jr. Buddy!

We have visited the Belize Zoo several times and have enjoyed each trip more than the last time. There are a great number of indigenous animals, mostly rescue animals. There is a good amount of educational information at the displays if you want to go through on your own or you can hook up with any number of guides working... More

Great place to get a collective of what is in the Belize forest. The animals look healthy and the jaguar is the best especially if u arrive for feeding the boa.

Ever want to feel just like you are in the jungle? The Belize Zoo has a minimal separation between the animals and the people viewing them, and walking through makes you feel like you are in the jungle. Bring bug spray! A must see.

I was so impressed with this zoo I buy an annual pass to support it. Even if you do not get in the bush...here you can see the animals, birds and a few snakes of Belize. There are optional close up encounters, and night tours, too.

We stayed at Caves Branch resort and our guide, Esperanza, took us to the zoo. She showed us all the animals and even knew all their names. These animals are all rescues from the country. The habitats they occupied seemed very natural and all the animals were easy to see. The zoo is extremely clean. and has an excellent gift... More

While living in Belize, I would frequent the zoo as much as possible. The assortment of animals is limited but the stories behind how they ended up in the Belize Zoo, along with the story of the Zoo itself, make it a great experience. It will give you an opportunity to see a sample of the diverse assortment of unique... More
