The Belize Zoo is an institution that cares for over 150 native wildlife, and promotes Conservation, Education, Recreation, and Research. It is also the first nature destination in Belize that is accessible to visitors with physical disabilities.

We are committed to the conservation of Belize's wildlife and its habitats through the establishment of a well maintained zoological facility and education center, both poised to bring about a greater environmental awareness to the people living in Belize, and to visitors from abroad.

TBZ believes that by bringing the people closer to the animals, which are their natural heritage, they will feel proud of these special resources, and wish to protect them for future generations.

All Zoo "residents" were once pets; donated to the Zoo; rescues found injured, abandoned or orphaned and brought in rehabilitation; or born at the Zoo.

The Belize Zoo receives no financial support from the Government of Belize, and generates funding to care for its residents through admission fees, tours, donations, and adoption and membership programs.

I have to admit that I wasn't expecting a lot from this zoo, but I couldn't have been more wrong! It was such a delight to see all of these rehabilitated native animals. We had so much that we even forgot about the mosquitos! We were even treated to a special tour by Jose, one of the zookeepers. It was... More

I work in biodiversity conservation and have never been really interested in zoos, but the Belize Zoo is a fine private Belizean institution that has dedicated efforts to preserve the nation's amazing biodiversity. I find that the animals are well kept, in great shape and show almost no stress of being captive. The Belize Zoo has played a major role... More

We stopped by here on our way to the airport. Not much with regard to animal. But the Jaguar encounter and Toucan encounter is a must see. Don't miss it

This is a small worn down zoo but it's a lot of fun to walk around and see the different Belizean animals and birds. Follow the map to be sure you see it all. We also saw several interesting free native birds and an iguana in the trees nearby. Bring bug spray and an umbrella unless you don't mind getting... More

At the same time a rescue center and a zoo, maybe more a rescue center than a zoo in fact. Animals enjoy large enclosures and seem well treated. Entirely focused on the fauna of Belize don't expect to see any other creature than the native species. Nice place for snacks as well.

The zoo was great. They built the zoo around the animals and their habitats. They have a nice variety of animals and birds, all have been rescued.

Visited this Zoo on our way to Maya Beach from San Ignacio. The animals are outstanding, especially the big cats and Harpy Eagle. The Zoo staff if friendly and knowledgeable. It's very easy to get to, the canopy of trees on the trail is awesome so you don't have to walk around in the sun, and the gift shop has... More

We stopped in at the Belize Zoo on our last day in Belize on our way to the airport. IT was clean, well set out and the animals OBVIOUSLY well cared for! The little "blurbs" about each animal were interesting to read, and although we didn't pay for any animal interactions, we loved watching Buddy the Jaguar interact with a... More

We went for a visit there and we liked it very much, what i liked about it was that all the animals looked like they were in their natural habitats, each animal had personalized signs with nicknames. We enjoy the zoo very much.

This is a must see attraction when in Belize City! The zoo is very remote and all the animals live in a natural environment.
