    Great Customer Service
    Rented a vehicle for a week. The reservation process was painless, pre-pickup contact was effective and pick-up was well organized. The staff were exceptional. The vehicle was a little beat up mechanically but it served the purpose. I rented in Belize City for the drive to Placencia.

    Responsive Car Rental Company with Multiple Locations in Belize!
    My wife and I recently traveled to Belize and we had a great experience renting from AQ Belize Car Rental! I was interested in renting a vehicle so that we could drive one-way from the Belize International Airport over to San Ignacio and then back across the Hummingbird Highway and down to Placencia. AQ was one of the few rental car companies with offices in both locations and where we could arrange a one-way trip. Customer Service at AQ was first class! I was able email extensively in advance of our trip to confirm trip details, ensure an evening pick-up at the airport, and with questions during our trip. AQ was always fast and responsive to answer my questions. The car we drove admittedly needed some repair work and the key fob didn't work, but we were fine overall and had a wonderful experience driving through Belize. Thank you again to all of the AQ office staff and customer service representatives who answered my questions and helped us have a great trip!

    Decent car but with hidden extras.
    We rented a car with AQ for 3 days while visiting Belize. The booking system was easy and the staff were very helpful over email. The car was fairly priced and ran well so no complaints there. The issue to watch out for is the added insurance. It says ‘optional’ on the website but when we arrived at the office they said it was required for all rental less than 3 days. This information was not on the email sent to us, which also labelled it as ‘optional’. These additions summed over 100 USD to our rental which was out of our budget. After a while discussing it they offered to knock off about 70 USD which we had to accept. For comparison we just hired a 4x4 for 1 day in San Ignacio with all insurance included. Also, all information on the internet states that rentals in Belize should come with all required insurance included. Lastly, don’t pay them 30 USD for a taxi into town. You can get a bus right across the street for 1 USD per person.

    Belize and Guatemala trip
    They were awesome and very helpful. The process was simple and they assisted with my travel plans to Guatemala by explaining the border crossing and what i needed. I would highly recommend them when renting in Belize. The car we rented for the week ran and performed perfectly for being a few years old. The people in the office and on the phone were very polite and it was a pleasure doing business with them.

    Great experience!
    Rented from AQ for 3 days and it was a great experience. The customer service was excellent! Everything was quick and easy. We got a decent vehicle (Chevy Equinox) at a good price. I would have no problems booking with them again on a future trip. On a side note, I would question some of the complaints in some of the other reviews. I saw that insurance was required for rentals less than 3 days-- not sure why others didn't see that. Not sure if some of these people have ever rented a car in a foreign country. I travel extremely cheap, but realize if I am in a foreign country I don't want to be worried if I get into an accident. Amazing that some of these people will spend $300+ per night on a hotel room, but complain about being covered for their rental car.

This was our first visit and we planned to see as much of Belize as possible. After explaining our itinerary to the agent at the desk, we were not informed that the Kia Soul we chose was listed by them “for pavement only” nor were we told of the many dirt roads that exist throughout the country. While traveling up near Corozal, one of the tires had a major blow out. When we called for help, we were unsympathetically told “You have a spare, don’t you?” Well change it.” The spare was a donut, so we were instructed to drive 85 miles back to Belize City for a proper repair. Upon returning to Belize City, we stated our concerns with the car and requested a new vehicle. This was accommodated but at an additional cost. We were dumbfounded that there was no concern for our wellbeing or consideration for our inconvenience. We were told if we didn’t like it, we could write to management and see if THEY would do anything for us. We would have walked out then and rented from another company but, as part of the signed agreement, there would be NO REFUND of money in the event we returned the car early. The second car we rented had muffler problems. Between the poor condition of the vehicles and the callous customer service, we recommend you choose another car rental agency.

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. I'm sorry to hear about your difficulties you experienced with us. Customers satisfaction is our #1 priority. We try our best to ensure that our website is user friendly and we update accordingly as we do have some of our rentals that are only for “PAVED ROADS” as stated on our website. Unfortunately, the conditions of the roads throughout Belize can be terrible especially during rainy weather, hence, we ensure that all of our vehicles are fully equipped with spare tire and the tools needed to change the tire in the event our customers experience a flat/blow out due to the road conditions. We do offer 24hrs roadside assistance and we are always more than happy to assist our customers when needed. We value each and every one of our customers safety and well being and we treat them with the utmost respect. We do hope that on your next visit to our beautiful Jewel Belize, we will be able to provide you with a better rental that meets your standards, and that is ideal for your intended destination, and provides you with maximum comfort.

I booked with AQ because they were more affordable than other rental car companies and I wanted to support a small business. Big mistake! Before we even drove out of the parking lot the check engine light was on. When we asked about it we were reassured it was no problem, which was strange because when we were going over the paper work before getting the car we were told to call immediately if the check engine light came on. Then as we drove back to the airport on our last day of our trip the car started having big problems. It wouldn’t accelerate and we could barely even make it over the speed bumps. When we got to the airport we thought we were going to have to push it into the lot but it barely made it in. We thought the company would be apologetic for the car trouble and stress of thinking we were going to break down and miss our flight but instead we were charged an additional cleaning fee for excessive dirt. The inside was almost spotless and the outside had a little mud around the tire area. Not from doing anything crazy and wild, simply from driving on the dirt roads of Belize and having to go through a puddle to our hotel on a few occasions. The car basically looked like any other car would after a week of driving in the tropics. The excuse for the extra charge was that it would require extra water to wash off the mud. And did I mention I had already paid an extra $40 for the windshield insurance and we returned the car with no cracks or windshield issues ? I hate to write negative reviews but I tried emailing the management and got no response. All I can say is rent someplace else if you want a reliable car!

Great service from the staff at the office. I got an email prior to arriving asking about my needs and confirming the rental.
When I made the reservation it did not say that for a rental of 1 day, you needed to purchase more insurance than the CDW I had selected and ended up paying a lot more than what I had seen on the webpage.
The car was old, in poor condition, the check engine light was on since the moment I received it and was told that it would be that way all the time.
It came with an old and dirty rug over the dashboard, the seatbelt had cuts in several places, made all types of noises and it shimmed when braking and I can´t even describe the gas consumption of the car.

Be aware of how horrible and dishonest AQ Belize is. If you are American, take your business elsewhere. This is the worst rental car experience I have had in my life. We were in Belize for Easter. I booked a rental car for 1 day to go to the zoo a week before I needed it. Through their website I selected a luxury small SUV. They called me 3 days later to confirm, which I did and everything was good to go. They called me the next day saying that since it was Easter Weekend I would need to increase my rental to 3 days as that was the minimum. I said that no, I had rented it just for a day and I expected them to make good on the reservation I made and that they had confirmed the day before.
When I arrived, they gave me a hard, said it was required I pay for every insurance and coverage they had, that it was not optional since it was Easter weekend. And the worse part, that my car would be a beat up old Honda Pilot that had over 200,000 miles on it and just beat to hell. I could not believe the treatment and the extortion. I had my wife and daughter with me, and we needed the car, so I had no choice as there were no other cars. I will share pictures of my booking, my receipt (which even confirms I did not choose all the coverages), and more importantly pictures of the car. Which incidentally several times we felt would not make it back to the Rental Car company leaving us stranded somewhere in Belize.
To boot, since it was Easter not one thing was open, the Zoo which was the main reason for needing a car was closed as was all shopping. You will see on the receipt they listed the Zoo on the receipt knowing full well it would be closed that day. (I will own the Zoo thing since I did not double check, just confirms all they wanted was the rental and revenue as anyone else would have said, "hey the zoo is closed today"). Overall they were horrible and I highly recommend no one rent from these guys.

Thank you for taking the time to write this review. At AQ Belize Car Rental, we pride ourselves by providing excellent customer service and customer’s satisfaction and safety is our #1 priority. I did review your reservation and it seems you book a high clearance vehicle and not a luxury car. I do apologize for the inconvenience that may have been caused with your rental reservation. We were completely booked out for the entire Easter Weekend and we tried our best to accommodate our customers during this peak season. We do contact our customers via phone call prior to their pick up dates, but sometimes we are unsuccessful, a follow up email and/or WhatsApp is sent to customers for confirmation. Unfortunately, because we were overbooked during the entire Easter Holidays, we were not doing any one day rentals hence we contacted you. We only had a Honda Element available at the time which was offered to you. I must add that AQ Belize Car Rental does not extort customers in any form, hence we provide the customers with a copy of the contract detailing the charges. Most businesses remains open during the Easter weekend; however, on Good Friday most business closed on this day, ourselves were not aware that the Belize Zoo would be closed had we known we would have definitely informed you. It is good to know that you made it back safe with the rental as we would never rent our customers a rental vehicle that is not road worthy and in the event you had a breakdown, we do offer 24 hours road side assistance country wide. I do hope that you give us the opportunity to make this up to you and be of good service to you in the near future. Once again, my humble apologies for the inconveniences.

Second time getting a car through this company. First time they did not put the adjusted return time on the paperwork so they tried charging us extra at drop off this time. We booked online because it was about half the price and when we go to pick it up they are giving us issues with our online reservation. Not impressed at all in any way. will not be trying them a third time.

Booked a car on their website for a day, got confirmation email that it is USD$57. When I pick it up they charge USD$120, because for short term (less than 3 days) they require all insurance coverage. Their website in the fine print says only CDW is mandatory ($27), though allows you to not select it, but in person they require to have 5 other insurances as well for another $30+. They refuse to let me speak to the manager. And for all this money they give a car that looks and smells as if it was just salvaged from a junk yard.

I'm sorry to hear you had a frustrating experience with us, and I really appreciate you bringing this issue to my attention. We try our best to ensure that our website is clear and user friendly to ensure that our customers booking and pricing is transparent. It sounds like you did a one day booking with no insurance coverages inclusive of service fee and GST. Our website does states that you cannot decline our CDW for rentals less than 3 days. Our add-ons coverages are optional and not mandatory. I am truly sorry if you felt that you were being pressured to take the additional coverages. Our rentals are maintained and detailed thoroughly before going out on rental, had you brought the foul smell to our attention, we would have been more than happy to swap you to another rental. We booked a truck rental through Placencia Car Rental to be picked up at the Belize International Airport and dropped off in Placencia a week later. Before finalizing the booking we called Placencia car rental because the website said an additional airport charge could be applied on pick up. When we asked if the total at time of booking was the total charges, we were told yes. So we finished the booking and received a confirmation. Upon arrival they knew nothing about our reservation and did not have a truck at the airport, but did have one at the Belize City location a few miles away. The woman at the register said they would drive us over there and we would get the reservation taken care of. She then said it "should be the same rate". I asked her to confirm there was no additional charges while she was on the phone with them. When we arrived, the woman running the place said she couldn't find our reservation. I showed her the email saying "congratulations, you are booked" and she didn't care. She did want to charge us an additional $300 USD on a reservation that was originally $610 USD. We went back to the airport just before the rental agencies closed for the night and got a rental from Crystal Car Rental. They were great to work with and their vehicles are in better condition.

We are known for our exemplary customer service here at AQ Belize Car Rental, which is why I truly apologize for your recent experience with us. We do have a branch in Placencia which carry their own rental fleet. I must apologize for the miscommunication between you and the Placencia Office, as had you been properly informed, you would not have experience this great inconvenience. We do have cases where a reservation may not come in which can be cause due to a system glitch, but we do go beyond to ensure that we find a rental for our customers. Belize City is approximately 185km (115 miles) from the Placencia, roughly a 3 hour drive and due to the high cost of fuel that is currently affecting us both local and internationally a drop off fee will apply . The drop off fee depends on the cylinder (engine size) of the rental. Once again, our deepest apologies for the inconvenience this may have caused you and your family. Please allow us the opportunity to be of service to you once again, and we do hope that we get a 2nd chance to make it up to you. Looking forward to seeing you in the near future.

The ac broke down on our way to San ignacio and they mentioned that the mechanic will come and try to fix the ac. The ac couldn't be fixed so the manager Terresita or Tesserita mentioned that someone will be coming to give us a replacement. NO ONE SHOWED UP after having multiple phone calls. We continued to drive around in temperatures over 90 F. Later we get a call and were asked to drop off the car and that we will get 50% off the entire rental only to find out that it was 50% off one day which was mere $25. Also the employee Shakira kept lying to us that the manager Teresita is busy in a meeting when we could see her not doing anything. I will be disputing this charge with my credit card company as soon as i get back to the US . Would give it 0 star if I could. They continued to ask us to sign additional paperwork to cover themselves but wouldn't give us in writing that they failed to provide us for the services they promised i.e. AC didnt work. I was forced to pay as i could have missed my ferry to San Pedro. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE with this car company, would not recommend to anyone - Seems like others have had similar experience with this company, I should have done my research prior to getting a rental with them. They seem to rip off people with their tactics. Others please rent a car with the US companies, dont get a rental from here.

This is the worst service I have ever had with a car. I have been travelling around the world, renting cars in Europe and Africa and I have never faced issues like this one. I reserved a Chevrolet SUV, and I received at the place a GMC Terrain. In our first day it was loosing power over 5.000 rpm, not a big problem, but not nice. The second day afternoon was not turning on. After 1 hour and half it turned on, but was the point when the problems started. We were travelling in the night because the delay produced by the start system, and the car was loosing often all the power. The speed and rpm nadels were coming to 0 suddenly, and the car was trying to turn off. The console of the car was going off eventually, and also the headlights were turning off. At our arrival to Placencia they "solved" the issue changing our for a Toyota Scion. This car was clearly our the tier we were renting, in spite of us and due to the time restrictions you have when traveling we took it. Was not worst but a bad experience. The A/C was not working full time, the car was bad align, all the trip fighting to control the driving wheel, and the puncture icon was on for all the trip, but the tires were ok. In resume, I dont recommend this agency at any moment, look for a bus if the big players have their cars in use

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. We greatly appreciate your feedback as it helps us to improve the quality of service that we aim to provide to our valued customers. We strive for 100% customer service and satisfaction. After inspecting the rental that you were on, we found out that it was loosing power due to the alternator not charging, causing a low voltage eventually causing malfunction of most of the electrical components of the rental. Our rentals are inspected and maintained on a regular basis, and there will be times when a vehicle may experience mechanical, electrical or even AC issues, which will be beyond our control. The GMC Terrain that you were on is one of our most popular rentals and it was a shock to us that you had experienced these issues. Unfortunately, due the peak season for the Easter Holiday, we had no immediate rentals similar to what you had booked available at the time as we were overbooked. Our sister branch in Placencia only had 2 rentals available at the time and the scion was the only next option that you had agreed with. Once again our deepest apologies for the inconvenience and the frustration this may have caused and we hope that you give us an opportunity to make it up to you. We do hope that on your next visit to our beautiful Jewel Belize, we will be able to provide you with a better rental that meets your standards, and that is ideal for your intended destination, and provides you with maximum comfort.

I would give Aq Belize rental a 5-star review. I don't have the words to begin to express my gratitude to Nissa and her staff. after a very long/complicated travels which got even more complicated once landed in Belize (b/c bank block our cards and would not process any transactions). My sister's 40th was possible and made memorable all thanks to Nissa who patiently spent several hours exploring all possible options that were available for us to get a vehicle to get us to our destinations (which was an awiated 4 hours drive). Throughout the process, her patience, concern, compassion, and positivism made all complications less worrisome. Thanks to Nissa and her staff i will definitely be returning to Belize a lot more and keep my business w/ Aq
