- CrazFoxOrlando, Florida308 contributionsWater TaxiThis is one of 4 ways to get from the airport to San Pedro and a few other islands. (Water taxi, small plane, land taxi, rental). It's fun the first time, and it's a little over an hour faster than by land. It's relatively comfortable and you are allowed to move about.Visited April 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten February 15, 2024
- Maggi W3 contributionsExpress Water TaxiWe booked our water taxi ahead of time to go to/from Ambergris Caye. The ride was 1 1/2 hours each way. In hindsight, the money for the flight to the Caye would have been worth it. The water taxi back to Belize City was 30 minutes late. We had built in enough spare travel time that it did not have a negative impact on the rest of our travel plans.Visited February 2024Traveled with familyWritten February 28, 2024
- roermoblHampshire, United Kingdom105 contributionsSan Pedro Return TripOur trips to/from San Pedro were on schedule, and this is the most cost-effective way to make the journey. Luggage check-in was easy, boarding was fairly well organised, and we were able to sit together. It was great that they let us catch an earlier boat (we'd booked the next sailing but we got through the airport so quickly that we arrived a lot earlier than I thought we would).Visited February 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten March 16, 2024
- Nancy_OttawaOttawa, Canada632 contributionsHad several good experiences. Professional.Have taken the water taxi several times and only had good experiences. Last time I pre-booked tickets and when our flight to Belize City arrived late I was afraid our tickets would be void but the front desk was very helpful and got us on next taxi to San Pedro, no additional charge. TIP: If you are concerned about sea sickness, don't sit at the front, you'll find the back is a smoother ride, and sit where you can keep your eyes on the horizon. Hubby and I sat in the middle, he's a little bit sensitive but has never had a problem. Staff take your luggage before you board and you collect it once you get off. Very professional service all round.Visited January 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten March 19, 2024

- PatrickSan Diego, California42 contributionsBest ride from Belize City to San PedroJust came from San Pedro, Belize and we used San Pedro Belize water taxi to take us from Belize city to San Pedro. I contacted them online to inquire about the trip and Iliana was very quick at replying via email and answered all questions. They can also be reached via watsapp I also used them for airport shuttle pick up which was smooth. As soon as we arrived at the airport there was a guy waiting for us with a sign and dropped us off at the ferry dock. Our driver was awesome and had cold water bottles for us in the shuttle. They have a water taxi going to Harvest Caye and San Pedro every hour. I highly recommend them !Visited May 2024Traveled with familyWritten May 31, 2024
- le_traveler26Madison, Wisconsin38 contributionsBZE to Caye and backTook Belize City to Caye Caulker water taxi on a Friday at 4:30pm. We arrived at 3:15p and easily purchased tickets with credit card at terminal in Belize City after $30 USD taxi ride (30min) from BZE airport to boat ferry. We bought tix to Caye Caulker and waited in terminal to board 15min prior. While you see two lines of people to board, they all go to the same boat. The water taxi stops first at Caye Caulker before heading onwards to San Pedro. Remember this will happen in reverse as well. Leaving Belize city the taxi was on-time and took 90 min. Our next water ferry was scheduled on Monday at 12:45pm departure from Caye Caulker to San Pedro, we arrived at 11:40am to the ferry dock and immediately headed to buy tickets at ticket booth inside terminal. The ferry left 30min late which didn’t impact our trip but annoyed many passengers with children. The terminal in Caye Caulker is hot and uncomfortable while you wait inside hoping to get on the boat first to get a better seat. Now on San Pedro, we are going to take the water ferry back to Belize City. Our flight are at 1pm and we are going to take the 7am scheduled ferry instead of 8:30am. Here is the thinking: if 8:30 ferry leaves at 9:15am and arrives in Belize City at 10:45am and it takes until 11am to get luggage picked up, we now have a 20-30min taxi ride to Intl BZE airport. We are eta at BZE around 11:30am for a 1pm flight. This with 30-45 min delays factored in for “island time” which is prolific everywhere we have gone in Belize. I don’t want to rush at the end. So 7:00am ferry it is to avoid missing flights home. I will add a new review for our return trip back and let you know if 7am was worth it. #bzetomsnVisited June 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten June 26, 2024
- KristinDenver, Colorado20 contributionsDon’t book onlineWe used the water taxi to get from San Pedro to Belize City so we could take an inland tour. We booked our tickets online because we thought that would be easier but it was not. We had to stand in line for 20 minutes to get “paper” tickets because their online booking system will not update for reservations made within 24 hours of the booking. We nearly missed the boat and our inland excursions for the day. I would say that it’s a convenient way to travel if you have the time but make sure you get to the ticket office at least 30 min prior to your trip and just book in person.Visited August 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten August 12, 2024

- y0semitesaraSan Francisco, California101 contributionsBuy tickets in personDon't bother with online tickets for the ferry as you will need to "redeem" them at the ticket counter anyway and it seems to add difficulty to the transaction. Make sure to bring an ID with you. The ferry was on time the first trip and about 20 minutes late the second trip.Visited December 2024Traveled with familyWritten December 30, 2024

We used this service twice, first from Chetumal to Cater Caulker and then to Belize City. We couldn't really fault the ride, what an amazing way to enter a new country. There are a number of blogs about the customs process at Chetumal and a fair bit of misinformation. There is a Mexican departure tax of $575 pesos and it is not a scam. It is actually customs that charge this and not the taxi service, so unfair in any case to blame the service, especially if you haven't done your homework on the process. You can book tickets online, however there appears to be an extra 10pc charge. So best to purchase them in person. For Chetumal, the Ferry leaves Sunday and every 2nd day thereafter at 3:30pm. We were fine with getting tickets that morning. The other thing worth noting is that while there is a toilet on board, there is a sign saying you can only do no 1s! There are free toilets at Chetumal, so make sure you make use of that. The ferry will stop at San Pedro, where everyone gets off and does their Belize custom paper work. We were hanging around for quite a bit and then left around 5:30pm to Caye Caulker. You buy get refreshments while you wait, so not all bad. As for the ferry to Belize City, there are frequent ferries throughout the day and they cost $22 BD. We managed to get a voucher from a touter for $17 BN, so worth looking our for that.

You can get a coupon at the front of the plaza to save $1-2. Make sure workers in the company shirt take your luggage before you buy your ticket. It seems shady but that's they way it's done. Our trip was from Belize City to Caye Caulker and you save more getting roundtrip vs two 1 one way tickets. Our boat was full but we left on time and it was as smooth as expected for a huge speed boat going for 2 hours. The ride is really windy- try to get a hat that stays on, otherwise your hairs keep whipping your face. And download a couple podcasts to pass the time. The ride itself is so loud you can't have a conversation with anyone you're with. Buying tickets is at the end of the alley, past all the shops and cafes. If you need to buy things, just get essentials, sun screen & bug spray. All the other souvenir stuff you can get on the islands and bargain better. ... or just not buy random stuff at all... hahah.

We used this service to go from Belize City to spend 7 days on Ambergis Caye, and while we were there, we took a trip to Caye Caulker on the water taxi as well. The first boat we took was smaller than the other 3 we subsequently rode. The smaller one was a little crammed, but it was still perfectly fine, even with my husband on crutches. They allowed us to board first every time, and they handle luggage with no problem. We booked the round trip from the mainland on the internet prior to flying to Belize, but they charge an internet processing fee. Although we paid ahead of time (extra with the internet fee) they still required that we check in at the window when we arrived. Next time, we will just arrive an hour before the scheduled departure to purchase tickets like we did for our Caye Caulker trip with no issues. The ride from San Pedro to Caye Caulker is only about 30 minutes. The boat to bring us back to San Pedro was about 20 minutes late, but we hung out in the bar next door until we saw it arrive. I would take the water taxi every time over paying over $100 to fly to the island. Plus, the kids enjoyed the boat.

It’s the company who takes you across a border who has the responsibility to ensure all passengers on board will be safely delivered. This did not happen to us on the 14/03/2020. Instead, we spent 9 hours on board a boat with no food or water, waiting.
With the COVID-19 virus, I understand it’s a challenging time. But when a country blocks Italian nationals from entering and a boat company carry’s 2 of them to that country, causing an entire boat of people who should be able to get to the island, are denied entry, the company should take responsibility. Instead, we lost our accommodations, we weren’t allowed refunds on the boat tickets and quite frankly we arrived back into Mexico with dehydration and frustration.
This company took no responsibility for leaving us like this. The boss even insisted we stayed on the boat overnight in Belizian waters when all passengers wanted to return to Chetumal. News reports say we refused to leave waters, this was the decision of the manager of the company, not listening to the people on bird the boat. There was no responsibility taken, no refunds given and a total lack of customer service. In total we lost out on almost USD $500 *due to the lack of planning and consideration this company has.
*most travel insurance companies do not cover failed trips if you have departed from the first country and entered into international waters- which is what this company made us do.
Completely unreliable company. Should be ashamed of themselves.

We truly apologize for the situation that took place on Mar 14-2020. Please note that our company did everything in our capacity to ensure your safety. You must understand that our borders were open and there was no travel ban therefore our trip was on schedule. Our vessel had already departed and we were not informed on time due to a lack of communication from the border officials in Belize. The border officials in Belize insisted that we could not dock, Our manager worked tirelessly to try to get the boats docked properly in San Pedro but to no avail. We were
later informed that certain individuals on the vessels created concerns due to place of origin and nationality due to the growing concern for COVID -19 cases. Please Note we even requested another vessel to take water and food, and this request was also denied. Please Note, We as a company DID NOT refuse to Return to the port of call, however the delay on the water was because we had to make special arrangements to ensure the re-entry was LEGAL in Mexico. This situation was completely out of our control and like you, we are not happy with the decision that the border officials made that led up to the unfortunate turn of events. In lieu of all this, All of our passengers are qualified for a full refund.

We were charged $51 USD for a round trip from Belize City to San Pedro. We asked around and locals told us this was ridiculous as the rate is $30 USD. The trip itself is long and crowded. You have to check in before boarding the ferry, so we recommend doing it as soon as you get there vs waiting until 20 minutes before departure like the majority of people. We were told there is another water taxi company that is cheaper and faster so I recommend looking into that option as well.

We took this water taxi from Belize City to Caye Caulker where we were going to stay a couple of nights. It goes to Caye Caulker first and then on to San Pedro/Ambergris Caye. They take your luggage and give you a luggage tag to claim it once you have arrived. We got our tickets online beforehand, but you still need to go to the window to pick up a physical ticket to board. There are two lines, one for Caye Caulker and the other for San Pedro. The ferry goes both places, to Caye Caulker first and then on to Ambergris Caye. But for some reason, they want you in two different lines (maybe to ensure that you paid the right fare?) The ferry to Caye Caulker is approx. 45 minutes and it's scheduled for an hour trip back (more into the wind, I guess.) The round trip fare was very reasonable, especially as compared to taking a flight out to the cayes. Everyone was wearing masks, and it wasn't overly crowded when we went. There were two different types of boats, and I preferred the one we had on the way over because it had windows that slid open so we could look out.

The water taxi is 90 min from Belize City to San Pedro (both ways) and about $50 BZE. It was full (about 110) passengers. It is clean with a bathroom on the boat. You make one stop at another island on your way to/from. Allow them to check your bags, there isn't room near your seat.

I was in line to check in my tickets and apparently I didn’t hear that one of the customer reps say next because it was crowded. She then told me “Ma’am you were not in the line !” In a harsh way too!! I replied “I was standing there for about 10 minutes” she then proceeded by grabbing my tickets roughly and checked them in not even a thank you. I don’t recommend taking this taxi, I believe her name was Leah because one of the locals saw what was happening and they told me who she was

As soon as our taxi pulled up to the curb in Belize City, staff members grabbed & tagged our luggage after asking where we were headed. We were hustled down the dock and didn't give it another thought - until we got to San Pedro and found our luggage had been dropped in Caye Caulker. The manager was rude, at best, and unwilling to help out. We were basically told to wait for it - they eventually paid taxi fare to get it to our resort, but only after far too much arguing. We ended up booking our next transport with Ocean Ferry Belize, which was wonderful. Would not use the Belize Express Water Taxi again.

The boat was crowded to the point we had no option than to sit right at the back in the uncovered area. We were quite wet from all the spray and wind and then to make matters worse it started to rain. No room to even stand under cover because it was so crowded with people standing, suitcases, people sitting on the suitcases etc. Very uncomfortable indeed. The staff were fine. Just too overbooked for customer comfort.

Our vessel never leaves our port overcrowded, A uniformed Belize Port Authority personnel is always present at our docks and they ensure the vessel leaves at capacity or less, Its unfortunate that due to weather conditions out of our control that your experience with us was not up to par, Take note that your feedback is important to us as it will be useful in future operational decisions. Continue to have a great day.

Hi,
How far a walk from where the water taxi is and the cruise ships. I will be on a holland America, and my girlfriend has some mobility issues - she can walk, but very slowly. And we have a tight connection. If we leave at Belize on the 3:30 water taxi, what time will we get back to Belize port?

Hello. We are arriving via motorcycle to Belize city. Is there a place to store our motorcycles while traveling to San Pedro?
Written September 22, 2023
I believe the water taxi parking area has accommodations for motorcycles. However, I don’t know anything about the security of a parked motorcycle would be. I leave cars overnight frequently and have never had any problems.

My flight arrives at 250 pm, do I have enough time to catch the last ferry at 530 pm
Written April 14, 2023
The last water taxi departs at 5:30 pm. It’s about a 45 minute to an hour drive from airport. Depending on how long it takes to clear customs, you should be able to make it. You can purchase water taco tickets online in advance and that would save a little time.

Hello the ferry does have a larger entrance at the rear, which is possible with help. However, it has small, tight aisles that do not allow for ease of movement. You may want to contact them by email. They are a friendly staff and probably will do all they can to assist you. But, it is a little tight to move around and can be slippery when disembarking. Contact them at email them info at belizewatertaxi. All the best!

Hello, I will be arriving by carnival cruise on 3/16/22 to Belize. Is the Belize water Taxi within walking distance, and also are the times of the cruise line the same as the time in Belize? This would be to go from Belize to Caye Caulker.
We wanted to spend a few hours there and then head back in time to dock. Our cruise arrives at 8 am, so I assume that we will be off of it at least by 8:15 am, and we need to be back by 5 pm.
Written March 4, 2022
Yes you can easily get to the water taxi in Belize City. The water taxi is nearby and runs regularly. I see no reason why you can’t do Caye Caulker and back the same day.

Hello, I am looking to book the water taxi from Belize City to Caye Caulker on May 2 and then from San Pedro to Belize City on May 13. I see online a place to check for Airport transfer for the May 13 trip. If I book this will the taxi be waiting for me when the boat docks at Belize City. Just making sure. It asks for flight number and time. I assume that is flight time correct. Thank you

$20 flat fare from ferry to airport or vice versa. Plenty of them around. We actually booked everything through our resort, so we had our driver waiting with a sign, ready to go both ways. Super easy. Super friendly.
Written March 4, 2020
Is it better to purchase a ticket online in advance or wait until we arrive at the dock as we have no idea our exact time of arrival as we fly into BZE that morning. Also, do you think one of the water taxi companies is better then the other?
Written February 25, 2020
We were able to purchase it at the dock with no issues. They charge you 10% extra to buy online. You need to pay by cash but they accept USD as well as the local currency.
