- Maggi W3 contributionsExpress Water TaxiWe booked our water taxi ahead of time to go to/from Ambergris Caye. The ride was 1 1/2 hours each way. In hindsight, the money for the flight to the Caye would have been worth it. The water taxi back to Belize City was 30 minutes late. We had built in enough spare travel time that it did not have a negative impact on the rest of our travel plans.Visited February 2024Traveled with familyWritten February 28, 2024
- roermoblHampshire, United Kingdom107 contributionsSan Pedro Return TripOur trips to/from San Pedro were on schedule, and this is the most cost-effective way to make the journey. Luggage check-in was easy, boarding was fairly well organised, and we were able to sit together. It was great that they let us catch an earlier boat (we'd booked the next sailing but we got through the airport so quickly that we arrived a lot earlier than I thought we would).Visited February 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten March 16, 2024
- Nancy_OttawaOttawa, Canada636 contributionsHad several good experiences. Professional.Have taken the water taxi several times and only had good experiences. Last time I pre-booked tickets and when our flight to Belize City arrived late I was afraid our tickets would be void but the front desk was very helpful and got us on next taxi to San Pedro, no additional charge. TIP: If you are concerned about sea sickness, don't sit at the front, you'll find the back is a smoother ride, and sit where you can keep your eyes on the horizon. Hubby and I sat in the middle, he's a little bit sensitive but has never had a problem. Staff take your luggage before you board and you collect it once you get off. Very professional service all round.Visited January 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten March 19, 2024

- PatrickSan Diego, California40 contributionsBest ride from Belize City to San PedroJust came from San Pedro, Belize and we used San Pedro Belize water taxi to take us from Belize city to San Pedro. I contacted them online to inquire about the trip and Iliana was very quick at replying via email and answered all questions. They can also be reached via watsapp I also used them for airport shuttle pick up which was smooth. As soon as we arrived at the airport there was a guy waiting for us with a sign and dropped us off at the ferry dock. Our driver was awesome and had cold water bottles for us in the shuttle. They have a water taxi going to Harvest Caye and San Pedro every hour. I highly recommend them !Visited May 2024Traveled with familyWritten May 31, 2024
- le_traveler26Madison, Wisconsin37 contributionsBZE to Caye and backTook Belize City to Caye Caulker water taxi on a Friday at 4:30pm. We arrived at 3:15p and easily purchased tickets with credit card at terminal in Belize City after $30 USD taxi ride (30min) from BZE airport to boat ferry. We bought tix to Caye Caulker and waited in terminal to board 15min prior. While you see two lines of people to board, they all go to the same boat. The water taxi stops first at Caye Caulker before heading onwards to San Pedro. Remember this will happen in reverse as well. Leaving Belize city the taxi was on-time and took 90 min. Our next water ferry was scheduled on Monday at 12:45pm departure from Caye Caulker to San Pedro, we arrived at 11:40am to the ferry dock and immediately headed to buy tickets at ticket booth inside terminal. The ferry left 30min late which didn’t impact our trip but annoyed many passengers with children. The terminal in Caye Caulker is hot and uncomfortable while you wait inside hoping to get on the boat first to get a better seat. Now on San Pedro, we are going to take the water ferry back to Belize City. Our flight are at 1pm and we are going to take the 7am scheduled ferry instead of 8:30am. Here is the thinking: if 8:30 ferry leaves at 9:15am and arrives in Belize City at 10:45am and it takes until 11am to get luggage picked up, we now have a 20-30min taxi ride to Intl BZE airport. We are eta at BZE around 11:30am for a 1pm flight. This with 30-45 min delays factored in for “island time” which is prolific everywhere we have gone in Belize. I don’t want to rush at the end. So 7:00am ferry it is to avoid missing flights home. I will add a new review for our return trip back and let you know if 7am was worth it. #bzetomsnVisited June 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten June 26, 2024
- KristinDenver, Colorado20 contributionsDon’t book onlineWe used the water taxi to get from San Pedro to Belize City so we could take an inland tour. We booked our tickets online because we thought that would be easier but it was not. We had to stand in line for 20 minutes to get “paper” tickets because their online booking system will not update for reservations made within 24 hours of the booking. We nearly missed the boat and our inland excursions for the day. I would say that it’s a convenient way to travel if you have the time but make sure you get to the ticket office at least 30 min prior to your trip and just book in person.Visited August 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten August 12, 2024

- y0semitesaraSan Francisco, California101 contributionsBuy tickets in personDon't bother with online tickets for the ferry as you will need to "redeem" them at the ticket counter anyway and it seems to add difficulty to the transaction. Make sure to bring an ID with you. The ferry was on time the first trip and about 20 minutes late the second trip.Visited December 2024Traveled with familyWritten December 30, 2024
- Journey407565040921 contributionPolicy Updates/ Team compromisedThe team has a definite structure set. Two STRONG suggestions: A separate cashier check-in line for those who have already purchased return tickets ( doesn't make logical sense to have passengers check in again and stand in a line with those who are waiting to purchase tickets). Please have the team announce to utilize headphones when listening to a device ( I requested for a team member to speak to another passenger, but he stated that he couldn't ). Place signs( use headphones as a friendly reminder. One more thing, there was a grounds team member ( San Pedro) who attempted to arrange ground transportation for me… tall thin Hispanic young person... He stated that his friend would charge me USD 30 to get to the airport. I inquired if was he confused several times… In summary ns a co-worker shared the concise cost. Why would this guy think that he can cheat a woman from Chicago is beyond me😂😂 Information: 1/5/2023 leaving San Pedro at 10:00 a.m..Visited January 2025Traveled soloWritten January 5, 2025

We used this service to transfer from Belize City to Caye Caulker and return back to the city. We also booked the airport shuttle from the ferry terminal to the airport.
Everything worked well, both services set off within 10 minutes of the scheduled departure. Luggage is checked off against your receipt when collecting. The shared shuttle service from the ferry terminal to the airport worked seamlessly and very efficient although it is quite expensive considering the distance to the airport.

We booked a round trip from belize city to san pedro and the water taxi was 45 minutes late getting us into San Pedro and 30 minutes late getting us back to Belize City. We had a flight leaving at 2 pm and took the water taxi at 10 from San Pedro (based on the recommendation from our hotel staff in San Pedro) and we were literally rushing to the airport at the end and barely made our flight. Recommend baking in an extra 30-45 minutes to make sure you accommodate for the delays/ checking in/out your luggage etc.

I read a lot of bad reviews about this compnay, and at one point was second guessing my decision to take the ferry from Chetumal Mexico to Caye Caulker.
But against all odds, everything went super smoothly! There was a lot of waiting on the mexico side, for the immigration to open, and finally to get on the boat. But not to a degree that we would leave late, just that youre told to arrive early, to get everything done. There was only about 15 of us talong the ferry, so that must have made a difference that no chaos was involved. In San Pedro Belize, more waiting happened, since people who stayed in San Pedro went through immigration first before us who continued to Caye Caulker. But immigration process was very smooth and we had time to relax, strech our legs and use the restroom before continuing to Caye Caulker.
The ferry staff is amazing and helpful, the boat ride to San Pedro is quite long and uneventful, but a great choice if you don't wanna cross the border by a car.

What this company does not disclose is that before boarding you will have to suffer for 3+ hours the Mexican immigration in a most uncomfortable and unhealthy port. When we arrived for the 3:30pm departure, 1 hour before, as requested, we were advised that immigration opened at 3 pm, and asked to wait for them in an area with walls and ceilings crawling with mosquitoes (malaria and dengue are major health issues in that zone). Extremely hot, dirty, and with very few seats, we had to wait for several hours standing up. Immigration personnel arrived half an hour late, got into the office but wouldn't give any information. For hours no one knew what was happening and a few very tired travelers even ended up having to seat on a very sticky and yucky floor. We went to try & find out what was going on and finally got them to admit that this was a common issue: Immigration's system crashes and travelers are stuck for hours in that awful area both, on their way to Belize and on their way back to Mexico. 3+ hours after we arrived, the immigration lady finally appeared and started calling out names - all of Mexican people, and advised the had to wait till all the other travelers finished going through immigration as they had to review something with themn as they had apparently been flagged or something. My husband was one of them. We travel to the US every couple of months without a problem, so there was no sense in what she was saying. It was already very late and about to get dark. We estimated at least another 1-2 hours before boarding and thought about having to relive the experience in the return trip. We decided to forfeit our tickets, get a car and drive that same night to Playa del Carmen where we took a ferry (luxurious, quick) to Cozumel, where we have been since. It was the best decision!!!!

I had an awful experience with San Pedro Belize Express Water Taxi. Despite booking tickets for 8 people months in advance (a full 4 months!), they canceled our departure at the very last minute. There was no explanation given, but it seemed pretty clear that they canceled simply because they hadn't sold enough tickets to make it worth their while. This is an outrageous way to treat paying customers.
To make matters worse, getting a refund was an absolute nightmare. I had to repeatedly contact them just to get any of my money back, and even then, they didn't refund the full amount. Their behavior was nothing short of abusive, and their staff were incredibly rude and unhelpful throughout the entire ordeal.
Because of their last-minute cancellation, we were stranded and faced significant additional costs just to get to San Pedro. This company clearly has no respect for its customers and is only interested in making a profit, no matter how it affects others.
I wouldn't recommend this service to anyone—travelers should beware! If I could report this kind of treatment easily, I would, and I sincerely hope they face consequences for their terrible treatment of tourists. Avoid at all costs!

Belize express company to avoid!
Empresa Belize express que avoid!
Company Belize express to avoid!
For a trip costing USD 70 between Caye Caulker and Chetumal, the company Belize Express lost our suitcases.
Arriving in Chetumal, we learned that our two suitcases had gone to Belize city. Response from the boat agent with a very contemptuous tone: “it’s your responsibility”. After he laughed in our faces, he explained to his colleagues that it was our fault, without further explanation or apology of course.
To follow up, the counterwoman at the Caye Caulker branch, with whom I had to speak for 20 minutes on the phone, told me that we were in the wrong because we arrived late at the boat; something which is totally false and which, by the way, has no connection with the misplacement of our luggage.
In short, as a result of the shopping, we remained stuck not far from the border, waiting for our luggage to be sent to us. And to top it all off, this same counter clerk stressed to me that if we do not pay for the shipping of the suitcases, they will not be sent to us. Deplorable after-sales service.
However, we were supported by two very friendly and helpful ladies from the Chetumal branch. Something I would like to emphasize, after this disconcerting situation to say the least.

Almost no information from the pilot. Beverages completely overpriced and despite the lousy service you still charge fees for checking in. I tried it online. It can hardly be more confusing, took 5 attempts and over 30 min. Most seats cost outrageous extras. For the non-surchargeable, you will then be allocated a place without being able to express a wish here. In the past, you were still half friendly at the counter and got a desired seat at the window or center aisle without having to pay extra for it. Sadly with Germany, the mountain is going on and on and you do everything you can to make yourself less and less proud to be a German.

Incredibly bad service. We had the ferry from Caye Caulker to Chetumal. Because the border with Mexico was closed by land we were kicked out at San Pedro. (this is less than an hour sailing from the original 3 hours to Chetumal) Here we first heard nothing and then we were given the option to take the Ferry back to Belize City within 5 minutes. (this is a much cheaper ferry we had already bought tickets for) We were informed that we had to email afterwards to get our money back.
After a lot of emailing and sending reminders, we finally got word that we would be informed that our ticket back to Belize City (not our destination at all) would lift our ticket to Chetumal. Of course, this is grossly unfair. All in all a very stressful experience with 6 hours extra travel time to border with Mexico and no understanding of San Pedro Belize Express.

We used the water taxi twice, one from Belize city to San Pedro and one from San Pedro to Caye caulker.
On the way out it was seamless. It was good service, a large boat and a nice day to enjoy the journey. It takes around 90 mins to get from Belize city or San Pedro with a stop at Caye caulker.
For the trip to Caye caulker, we booked on the day. We felt it was expensive for a day trip $80USD return. The boat was crowded and not as big. On the way back the boat was full so we had to wait for another boat. It’s not the end of the world but the communication about this was sparse so we just ended up waiting around for a while.
It serves a great purpose and is a comfy ride. It gives flexibility to your holiday and a convenient way to travel round.

UNRELIABLE! Please be aware that the boat doesn’t always run on schedule, so avoid taking it if you are rushing to the airport etc. It is a great option if you have unlimited time and want to enjoy the ride/water/views.
In my case, the boat was late 45 minutes! Plus additional 30 minutes of you count unloading the luggage (I didn’t have a bag, so I didn’t have to wait tusi extra time). Several people the boat missed their flights, everyone was frustrated and the Staff didn’t even offer an apology. I had a prepaid airport transfer but declined it due to the delays and the fact that the driver told me to wait for several other people who were collecting their bags. No one informed me that this will be a group shuttle (I was picked up from the airport earlier alone). I was forced to take a private taxi and pay for it, but that was the only option to catch my flight (I boarded last)! I requested a $25 refund for the unused one-way shuttle and was denied it. I responded describing the situation in detail and asking for a refund again, but they stopped responding all together. I dealt with Illiana, who also tried to blame the delay on me (I had 90 min to catch the flight had the boat arrived on time so plenty!). No apologies or refund - take the other operator, trust me!

Hi,
How far a walk from where the water taxi is and the cruise ships. I will be on a holland America, and my girlfriend has some mobility issues - she can walk, but very slowly. And we have a tight connection. If we leave at Belize on the 3:30 water taxi, what time will we get back to Belize port?

Hello. We are arriving via motorcycle to Belize city. Is there a place to store our motorcycles while traveling to San Pedro?
Written September 22, 2023
I believe the water taxi parking area has accommodations for motorcycles. However, I don’t know anything about the security of a parked motorcycle would be. I leave cars overnight frequently and have never had any problems.

My flight arrives at 250 pm, do I have enough time to catch the last ferry at 530 pm
Written April 14, 2023
The last water taxi departs at 5:30 pm. It’s about a 45 minute to an hour drive from airport. Depending on how long it takes to clear customs, you should be able to make it. You can purchase water taco tickets online in advance and that would save a little time.

Hello the ferry does have a larger entrance at the rear, which is possible with help. However, it has small, tight aisles that do not allow for ease of movement. You may want to contact them by email. They are a friendly staff and probably will do all they can to assist you. But, it is a little tight to move around and can be slippery when disembarking. Contact them at email them info at belizewatertaxi. All the best!

Hello, I will be arriving by carnival cruise on 3/16/22 to Belize. Is the Belize water Taxi within walking distance, and also are the times of the cruise line the same as the time in Belize? This would be to go from Belize to Caye Caulker.
We wanted to spend a few hours there and then head back in time to dock. Our cruise arrives at 8 am, so I assume that we will be off of it at least by 8:15 am, and we need to be back by 5 pm.

Yes you can easily get to the water taxi in Belize City. The water taxi is nearby and runs regularly. I see no reason why you can’t do Caye Caulker and back the same day.

Hello, I am looking to book the water taxi from Belize City to Caye Caulker on May 2 and then from San Pedro to Belize City on May 13. I see online a place to check for Airport transfer for the May 13 trip. If I book this will the taxi be waiting for me when the boat docks at Belize City. Just making sure. It asks for flight number and time. I assume that is flight time correct. Thank you

$20 flat fare from ferry to airport or vice versa. Plenty of them around. We actually booked everything through our resort, so we had our driver waiting with a sign, ready to go both ways. Super easy. Super friendly.

Is it better to purchase a ticket online in advance or wait until we arrive at the dock as we have no idea our exact time of arrival as we fly into BZE that morning. Also, do you think one of the water taxi companies is better then the other?
Written February 25, 2020
We were able to purchase it at the dock with no issues. They charge you 10% extra to buy online. You need to pay by cash but they accept USD as well as the local currency.
