I don’t usually rate gift shops, however 12 Belize has a very good selection of local items and crafts which provide authentic keepsakes for the kids. If you have young kids or need to pick up some authentic souvenirs this is the place for you.

I bought a Maya bag for my wife a couple of Christmases ago and it is her go-to bag for all occasions. The bags are made by indigenous Mayan women in southern Belize. The exterior of the bag is colorful, loom-woven material. Bags I'm familiar with have a rounded shape. The interior is a cotton or linen insert and a wood handle is generally integrated into the top of the bag.
The very best authentic bags are signed and dated on the inside. The bags are roomy and sturdy and extremely attractive. And the craftsmanship of the stitching is immediately apparent.
I recommend looking them up online to get a better sense of their appearance.
As a former Rhode Islander myself, I'd be happy to answer any other questions.
