    Wonderful
We went here by golf cart and choose the restaurant furthest away to the left, when you arrive. (Think it was Sunset Beach) a newly built place- it is large and beautiful. Kids enjoyed free paddle and kayak and the shallow Carrinean;) Can only recommend spending time here:) It costs nothing to come but then you buy your food and drinks from them at a fair price:)

Ok so I went to this place a few years ago to be fair; my opinion is at least 2 years old. I heard about secret beach and we finally decided to venture to it as it is NOT close to the city center and you must have a cart or a car to make it there as it is a long and bumpy ride whichever you decide. So after a long bumpy ride we finally arrived and found the place pleasant with nice friendly people and a great atmosphere! There was music and pretty much all the ambience you would expect to find in Belize. The sunset was simply as beautiful as sunsets come. The food was your basic tropical food of fresh fish blah, blah, blah. I would recommend this place no matter what. Here is the kicker, it was not on the electrical grid at the time and i do not believe it is now? It is not cheap by any means, mostly Canadians and Americans own all the businesses and they charge astronomical prices! You will not find locals eating there and it is not for travelers whom are on a tight budget. Now lets not forget the costs of getting the food there and all that it takes to operate in a remote location like this without power and gas etc. There are huge costs to run a business and power it as well. So If you are going to visit I would recommend a cooler filled with things you like and maybe budget a beer or two at the local places to enjoy and speak with others? If money is not an objective then by all means enjoy it to the fullest and eat and drink to be merry!

    Had a great afternoon
Headed out to secret beach with our four and six year old daughters. We are staying at Coco beach resort so we started pretty far north. It took us approx 22 minutes and just over a quarter tank of gas (there are no gas stations on the way). Download some good tunes and enjoy the ride, our kids did fine. At the beach everyone was friendly and the beach vendors kindly took “no thanks” for an answer with a smile. We ended up at Pirates for most of the day as we got chairs next to the water so we could be close to our daughters playing in the sand. We spent most of the day in the water. Our waiter, Marlon, was amazing, at one point wading very deep in the water to bring us beers. We realized later we had forgotten our daughters’ cover ups and when we returned Marlon had saved them for us in a bag with my name on it. So thoughtful! The problem with pirates is that their prices are incredibly high. We walked down the beach a ways and ended up at the Blue Bayou where their prices were much more reasonable. Their beach area is much smaller but their claim to fame is the high picnic tables way out in the water. We had dinner here and it was an experience we will remember forever. We drove back under a full moon and it wasn’t really all that bad.

The best way to go around San Pedro is definitely by golf cart, and Secret Beach is about 1 hour outside of the town. When you hit the roundabout, you just keep going straight on the main road and can follow the green M's. We were told that it is not necessary to get there until 11:30/noon, which was absolutely correct. We were some of the first ones there and secured great seats on the beach and a table in the water (free to use). An extra little fact is that most of the locals have Sunday off (it's definitely the slowest day around town), so that's when you will see the most locals travel to secret beach. You will probably also see people asking for rides out there, and it is very safe to drive locals out there since some locals don't own any form of transportation because it's expensive. We went straight to Happy Island, which was the most popular and loudest in the stretch of six bars. When you drive down the dirt road, there are three straight at the end of the road and three if you turn left a little before the end following the signs to "Blue Bayou." Every bar has a different vibe, so whatever you're feeling is an option out there (relaxed vs. party vs. both). If you have your own snorkel equipment, you can bring it to secret beach and snorkel to see fish at any place along the beach. Everything closes around 6pm because the mosquitos get bad around dusk. Highly recommend spending the day there!

When you drive up to Secret Beach in your golf cart you will be bombarded by guys trying to lure you in to their resort. Take your time and check out the various spots to see which place fits with you. We ended up at the very last one on the left ( I think it was Sunset). The water is clear and shallow very far out. Great swimming or wading. They also had complimentary use of kayaks and paddle boards as long as you bought something (drinks, food, etc. ) that’s not really a big deal. You end up getting something if you’re there for any amount of time.

Couple, ages 46 and 49, rode bikes to Secret Beach from just north of San Pedro. 35 minute bike ride on beach cruisers. Beautiful birds along the way. Arrived at 10:00 AM on a Tuesday. Multiple restaurants/bars, all empty but slowly increased to ~25% capacity as the day went on. Was expecting hawkers based on the reviews but saw instead staff politely encouraging you to stay at their restaurant.
Spent the day at Aurora’s Grill, which was an excellent choice for us - far enough away from loud music but where we could easily enjoy it. Ate and drank in no-pressure, very chill environment. Conch & shrimp ceviche was delicious. Eric the waiter was friendly and the bar tender lovely. Met other travelers and had great conversations. Rode back at 2:45 but could have easily spent another hour there. The water was beautiful and comfortable. A very unique and beautiful spot.

Water was spectacular! Absolutely worth visiting. Some things to know:
First. This is very much a party scene. We were there from 10 am to 2 pm and there already heavy drinking. No one was out of control but I imagine it gets wilder as the day goes on. Quite fun if you are up for it but just be aware.
Second. Getting there takes a while. You'll need to get a golf cart and take the rugged roads. We stopped for coconut water along the way, which we had to drink quickly because it spilled everywhere while driving.
Third. There are several "clubs" on the Secret Beach. As soon as you arrive, they are all enticing you to sit with them. However, getting people seated was apparently the priority because we struggled to get service during our entire time there. It also took about 30 minutes to tab out.
All that said, it was totally worth the visit and no trip to ambergris would be complete if you don't visit Secret Beach.

Our family of four plus another family decided to check out Secret beach despite some of the negative reviews. We went on a Wednesday and it was pretty empty and chill.
We followed another reviewers advise and went to Sunset Palace. Truth be told, you have to travel over a very bumpy road to get there but it's worth it. Turn left off the street prior to going into Pirate's Not so Secret beach.
The beach at Sunset palace was beautiful and clean. There was a swimming pool for the kids to swim in and Isaiah the owner and the rest of the staff were awesome.
You can walk 500 m out into the ocean. There were paddle boards and kayaks to use free of charge as well.
You gotta try their burgers. Hands down some of the best burgers we have every had. Reasonable prices and a great atmosphere. It's owned by a Belizean who really takes pride in providing a great experience for people.

After getting advice to avoid the weekend, went by golf cart with the family on a weekday, Tuesday. Tip: Check the weather forecast beforehand. Arrived at 10am and picked out Happy Island Beach Bar out of the selection of beach bars. There was nobody but a handful of tourist already there. Beach is the beautiful turquoise water, no seaweed, and sandy! Josh ‘Mr. 420’ helped explain the rules which was, there was no rules but relaxing and enjoying yourself. With his advice, we picked our 4 day beds for us to use and Kareem ‘Mr. Volleyball’ served up awesome smoothies, rum punch, and delicious food all day. Thanks Kareem! Apparently the chef won best ceviche in the entire island and the food did not disappoint. By noon, the place was busy and 2 hours later all day beds and cushions were in demand. Tip: Put a personal item on it, even if it is just slippers! Water was warm and you can walk a mile out and it won’t be no more than 5 feet deep. There is also a fun inflated water park that my kids loved! You can buy 1 hr., 3 hr., or all day pass and will get a life jacket which allows you to use it. We stayed until about 4pm after lots of drinks, food, and fun. Highly recommended!

So, everyone tells you to go to Secret Beach - tour guides, restaurant servers, you name it. I would recommend if you are on a short trip of a few days, don’t prioritize this place. It’s a party atmosphere, so I think it’s probably more fun for those who want to hang out and drink. We went on a weekday, and thankfully it was not too crowded. Otherwise it’s just lounge chairs packed in to every available space. While the water is pretty, there is hardly any beach. Food was good and service was great. We were not hassled too much by vendors. It was relaxing, but we could have been just as chill back at the resort. Yes, the drive there is rough. Just like almost all of Belize! But you do drive through some pretty mangrove areas, which was particularly nice on the drive back towards evening. Bottom line - Secret Beach is something to do for an afternoon, but there a lot more interesting things to spend your time on when in Belize.

Very long drive from downtown San Pedro as it is north of the bridge. We drove by and did not stop. Place looked hokey. There are great western views, the water is beautiful and low wind since it faces west. This is a ONE TIME event from my perspective.

It was just fun. The service was excellent. The water was inviting and it was a great way to spend an afternoon. We arrived and walked around a bit to get our bearings and found a comfortable spot where chase lounge chairs were inches from the water. Our server helped us settle in suggested a couple of Mango Habanero Margaritas, which were absolutely delicious. we then went for a dip in the bay and had several nice conversations with other guests/tourists. Several people either had tables in the water or floating tables that were out some distance into the water. They played good music with a mostly Reg/Carib vibe and took exceptional care of their guests.
