- Bill and DeeLumby, Canada35 contributionsThe secret is out, the golf cart ride there was better!Honestly the golf cart ride to this area was more fun than the beach itself. The online pics don’t look like it in person. The prices are a bit higher of course, being in a tourist area which is remote. One detractor were the piles of garbage near the parking area, lots of garbage which is sad to see. We had lunch in the water, little fishes swimming around our feet was nice.Visited December 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten December 6, 2023
- Jrtm2014Seattle, Washington387 contributionsGood for a few hoursThis is a great place to go if your resort does not have beach access or you just want to drink by the water. Lots of places to choose from so look them up in advance to see what is your vibe. You can rent jet skies, swim, jump off of floaties or lay under an umbrella. We chose a place with tables in the water. Takes a while to get there (45 minutes in a golf cart). Road is a dirt road and has its share of dips and holes, but not as bad as I was expecting. Worth a trip. Bring water for the drive if warm. You can buy food and drink they take credit cards.Visited December 2023Traveled with familyWritten December 27, 2023

Had so much fun, an incredible massage on the beach, great food and drinks and amazing service! - Tom R5 contributionsBeautiful water but ...The water at Secret Beach is unarguably some of the best on the island. However, the atmosphere was like an all inclusive. You have to purchase food or drink to sit in the chairs (there is really no other option), loud music plays where ever you are, hawking sellers abound. If you are looking for a more party atmosphere, this is your jam - but if you want solitude on the beach - not going to get it here. We enjoyed a swim and then went on to our next adventure.Visited January 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten January 20, 2024
- TFAtravelChicago, Illinois437 contributionsWorth the Drive - The Drive is Half the Fun!Secret beach is no secret - duh. But it is fun, clean, and lots of amenities. The drive is a potholed odyssey that will give your golfcart a true work out. The beach is a fun 1/2 day. Go.Visited January 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten January 27, 2024
- Crystal H19 contributionsLazy beach days! This not so secret beach is a must visit. We went out a couple times.. the drive out was an adventure in itself.. seeing the north side of San Pedro and the mangroves. Once we arrived to Secret beach we found a table in the water at one of the beach restaurants. Pirates not so secret grill. Enjoyed some beers in the water and ceviche. Has a massage on the beach and just enjoyed the calm water and fish swimming around us. Was fun and relaxing!Visited January 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten January 30, 2024
- joy2trvl31 contributionsSecret Beach is NICEWe hung out at Secret Beach for a couple of hours while visiting San Pedro. It has a nice vibe with different areas to visit. You had water activities, water tables, literally in the water. If you wanted to just lounge then you had that option. Food and music was great. I liked that the vendors weren't pushy, if you told them no, then they moved on.Visited February 2024Traveled with friendsWritten February 16, 2024
- MEPSTLPodstrana, Croatia15 contributionsGo to Coco GrandeWe went here in research of a “real” beach and this was definitely better than the Split on Caye Caulker. You can actually walk out into the water. We rented a jet ski & paddle board and played beach paddle ball in the shallow water. Would NOT recommend the main restaurant, Secret Beach Bar & Grill. After our order for two simple dishes still hadn’t arrived after 40 minutes, we canceled it and walked down to Coco Grande where they took great care of us.Visited February 2024Traveled with familyWritten February 18, 2024
- Rachel Z25 contributionsCool venue, but overpriced tourist trap. The idea is pretty cool with the lounge chairs. And there are enough shaded areas to be able to relax for hours and have fun with friends. But there really were not many tables in the water and those were all taken, even on a slower Monday when there were many lounge chairs open. This is where I purchased my one and only $14 (US) drink of the trip. They capitalize on the fact that there aren't many great beach spots on Ambergris Caye. I'm sure it would be fun to hang out with some friends there if You're looking for a party vibe, just be ready for what you're getting into. Toast is a much better option for beachfront drinks.Visited February 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten February 24, 2024

The best way to go around San Pedro is definitely by golf cart, and Secret Beach is about 1 hour outside of the town. When you hit the roundabout, you just keep going straight on the main road and can follow the green M's. We were told that it is not necessary to get there until 11:30/noon, which was absolutely correct. We were some of the first ones there and secured great seats on the beach and a table in the water (free to use). An extra little fact is that most of the locals have Sunday off (it's definitely the slowest day around town), so that's when you will see the most locals travel to secret beach. You will probably also see people asking for rides out there, and it is very safe to drive locals out there since some locals don't own any form of transportation because it's expensive. We went straight to Happy Island, which was the most popular and loudest in the stretch of six bars. When you drive down the dirt road, there are three straight at the end of the road and three if you turn left a little before the end following the signs to "Blue Bayou." Every bar has a different vibe, so whatever you're feeling is an option out there (relaxed vs. party vs. both). If you have your own snorkel equipment, you can bring it to secret beach and snorkel to see fish at any place along the beach. Everything closes around 6pm because the mosquitos get bad around dusk. Highly recommend spending the day there!

When you drive up to Secret Beach in your golf cart you will be bombarded by guys trying to lure you in to their resort. Take your time and check out the various spots to see which place fits with you. We ended up at the very last one on the left ( I think it was Sunset). The water is clear and shallow very far out. Great swimming or wading. They also had complimentary use of kayaks and paddle boards as long as you bought something (drinks, food, etc. ) that’s not really a big deal. You end up getting something if you’re there for any amount of time.

Couple, ages 46 and 49, rode bikes to Secret Beach from just north of San Pedro. 35 minute bike ride on beach cruisers. Beautiful birds along the way. Arrived at 10:00 AM on a Tuesday. Multiple restaurants/bars, all empty but slowly increased to ~25% capacity as the day went on. Was expecting hawkers based on the reviews but saw instead staff politely encouraging you to stay at their restaurant.
Spent the day at Aurora’s Grill, which was an excellent choice for us - far enough away from loud music but where we could easily enjoy it. Ate and drank in no-pressure, very chill environment. Conch & shrimp ceviche was delicious. Eric the waiter was friendly and the bar tender lovely. Met other travelers and had great conversations. Rode back at 2:45 but could have easily spent another hour there. The water was beautiful and comfortable. A very unique and beautiful spot.

Water was spectacular! Absolutely worth visiting. Some things to know:
First. This is very much a party scene. We were there from 10 am to 2 pm and there already heavy drinking. No one was out of control but I imagine it gets wilder as the day goes on. Quite fun if you are up for it but just be aware.
Second. Getting there takes a while. You'll need to get a golf cart and take the rugged roads. We stopped for coconut water along the way, which we had to drink quickly because it spilled everywhere while driving.
Third. There are several "clubs" on the Secret Beach. As soon as you arrive, they are all enticing you to sit with them. However, getting people seated was apparently the priority because we struggled to get service during our entire time there. It also took about 30 minutes to tab out.
All that said, it was totally worth the visit and no trip to ambergris would be complete if you don't visit Secret Beach.

Our family of four plus another family decided to check out Secret beach despite some of the negative reviews. We went on a Wednesday and it was pretty empty and chill.
We followed another reviewers advise and went to Sunset Palace. Truth be told, you have to travel over a very bumpy road to get there but it's worth it. Turn left off the street prior to going into Pirate's Not so Secret beach.
The beach at Sunset palace was beautiful and clean. There was a swimming pool for the kids to swim in and Isaiah the owner and the rest of the staff were awesome.
You can walk 500 m out into the ocean. There were paddle boards and kayaks to use free of charge as well.
You gotta try their burgers. Hands down some of the best burgers we have every had. Reasonable prices and a great atmosphere. It's owned by a Belizean who really takes pride in providing a great experience for people.

After getting advice to avoid the weekend, went by golf cart with the family on a weekday, Tuesday. Tip: Check the weather forecast beforehand. Arrived at 10am and picked out Happy Island Beach Bar out of the selection of beach bars. There was nobody but a handful of tourist already there. Beach is the beautiful turquoise water, no seaweed, and sandy! Josh ‘Mr. 420’ helped explain the rules which was, there was no rules but relaxing and enjoying yourself. With his advice, we picked our 4 day beds for us to use and Kareem ‘Mr. Volleyball’ served up awesome smoothies, rum punch, and delicious food all day. Thanks Kareem! Apparently the chef won best ceviche in the entire island and the food did not disappoint. By noon, the place was busy and 2 hours later all day beds and cushions were in demand. Tip: Put a personal item on it, even if it is just slippers! Water was warm and you can walk a mile out and it won’t be no more than 5 feet deep. There is also a fun inflated water park that my kids loved! You can buy 1 hr., 3 hr., or all day pass and will get a life jacket which allows you to use it. We stayed until about 4pm after lots of drinks, food, and fun. Highly recommended!

So, everyone tells you to go to Secret Beach - tour guides, restaurant servers, you name it. I would recommend if you are on a short trip of a few days, don’t prioritize this place. It’s a party atmosphere, so I think it’s probably more fun for those who want to hang out and drink. We went on a weekday, and thankfully it was not too crowded. Otherwise it’s just lounge chairs packed in to every available space. While the water is pretty, there is hardly any beach. Food was good and service was great. We were not hassled too much by vendors. It was relaxing, but we could have been just as chill back at the resort. Yes, the drive there is rough. Just like almost all of Belize! But you do drive through some pretty mangrove areas, which was particularly nice on the drive back towards evening. Bottom line - Secret Beach is something to do for an afternoon, but there a lot more interesting things to spend your time on when in Belize.

Very long drive from downtown San Pedro as it is north of the bridge. We drove by and did not stop. Place looked hokey. There are great western views, the water is beautiful and low wind since it faces west. This is a ONE TIME event from my perspective.

It was just fun. The service was excellent. The water was inviting and it was a great way to spend an afternoon. We arrived and walked around a bit to get our bearings and found a comfortable spot where chase lounge chairs were inches from the water. Our server helped us settle in suggested a couple of Mango Habanero Margaritas, which were absolutely delicious. we then went for a dip in the bay and had several nice conversations with other guests/tourists. Several people either had tables in the water or floating tables that were out some distance into the water. They played good music with a mostly Reg/Carib vibe and took exceptional care of their guests.

Hello, I am wondering if all the restaurants and bars are open at Secret Beach on Christmas day and/or Boxing day this year? And which would be better to visit ? Thx!

Are there sea lice in February?
Written February 2, 2020
One of my children did develop a red rash on his thighs that lasted the whole trip but the rest of us were fine. It's difficult to know if this is due to sea lice or not. I am imagining that it wasn't since no one else had that problem.

When sitting in the water, how do people keep their phones and money dry? Are there lockers?
Written January 29, 2020
We had seats up front near the water and tucked phone and money under a couple of towels. Just kept a watch on our stuff. There are plenty of people around. Seemed safe. I also have a airlocked phone case that I kept credit card and money in. Put it in my pocket, but you could also hang it around your neck. You can buy them at sporting goods stores or amazon. Like at home be smart with your stuff, but remember you are there to have fun. People at secret beach and on the island were so friendly. We are going back in July. You will love it there!

Good afternoon ! We are a family of 6 (11 to 16 year olds) who will be in San Pedro early March for a week. We'll have 1 or 2 golf carts and looking at spending a day at Secret Beach. Reviews are mixed, should we go on a Sunday or is there a better day to go to avoid the heavy crowd but still experience the vibe ? Thanks a million !
Written January 19, 2020
Well you are going via high peak times . Unfortunately, it may be crowded regardless. But if I had to pick a day it would be Sunday .

Hello, we will be in Belize over Easter weekend; I have read that some things are closed for the holiday. Will secret beach be open on Easter Sunday?
Written January 1, 2020
I guess the better question would be are the vendors going to be open on the beach for Easter. My best guess would be yes. I went on December 26 which is a recognized holiday in Belize. They observe boxing day do the fact that are part of the British Commonwealth.

Yes, you can snorkel but there isn’t much to see at least where I was at Blue Bayou. The water is very shallow about 3 feet so you could already see everything.
