Elk Mountain Expeditions (EME) opened its doors in 2012 with the intent to bring a more personalized experience to the rafting industry. After 10 years working with many large rafting companies around the country we decided to start a company that is free of all the problems that accompany big business rafting. Smaller trips with highly trained guides, no hidden fees, and attention to detail set us apart from other companies in the Roaring Fork Valley. At EME, we are dedicated to providing excellent customer experiences on and off the water. During our vacation, we decided to do the 1/2 day whitewater rafting...it was the 1st time for my wife and I. Sam was an incredible guide and the overall experience was worth every penny. The entire team was professional, informative, and took care of all of the guests. I would definitely recommend Elk Mountain...they really provide outstanding customer service and include all of your gear, wetsuits, and snacks.

We had a great rafting trip last summer so wanted to go again this year - moving up to the next level. Shaffer did a fantastic job guiding, talking to the kids, and sharing a lot of interesting local history. All with a fun and enthusiastic attitude- a great day on the river
We also decided to try fly fishing this year. None of us had been before, and Nate and Charlie did such a great job explaining in a way that was easy to understand and follow. They were great with the kids and provided a wonderful introduction to fly fishing. We all had so much fun the next day we called and booked another trip, this time with Nate and Trevor. Another fantastic day on the river and a perfect way to spend the last day of our vacation.
Highly recommend using Elk Mtn when in the area, everyone from reservations, drivers, and guides have all been so friendly, helpful, and happy - you can tell they all genuinely love what they do

Trevor, our guide, and Cassie, our driver/photographer were terrific. From the very moment they picked us up, they were incredibly friendly and sincerely seemed totally interested in our having the best time on the river. Trevor had so much experience rafting, it put us all at ease. His easy demeanor and upbeat personality made the whole trip full of fun and laughter. He knew so much about the history of Aspen, the mountains, the wildlife, and easily answered and expanded on all our questions. It was a beautiful day on the river, with snacks midway. The two hesitant rafters in our family soon changed from being a little worried to asking to go back and do the next level up white water rafting!

I 100% recommend booking a white water rafting trip with EME. We were in town for a wedding and a large group of us went on the Class III Upper roaring fork trip. Some of us had been white water rafting before but we had several in our group that hadn’t.
It was amazing! The guides we professional but also fun and made sure we had a great time. Curtis, Callie, Dex, Tom, Schaffer, and Travis were all the best guides we could ask for. Great personalities and we felt super comfortable right away. There were more guides on the trip with us and they were all top notch. We had kids and adults of all ages and all had a blast. My 10 year old was a little hesitant at first but Callie put him at ease and he enjoyed every second it!
We enjoyed our experience so much that my husband and I booked a trip for the next morning for Slaughterhouse Falls- Class IV. Curtis, Schaffer, Tom and Travis were our guides and took our safety very seriously. It was a challenge but also an AMAZING experience. We all managed to stay in the raft and it was a great feeling of accomplishment when we finished.
We are planning a trip here next year and will definitely book with EME again.
Side note: the website advertises free photos, beer, drinks and snacks. They did not disappoint! The photos were awesome and great quality.

My wife & I met up with Brady at the Ritz Carlton Club. Because of Covid, we drove in separate cars to a location along the Roaring Fork River about 20 minutes away to Basalt. We had last fly fished in New Zealand in Dec 2019. Brady gave us a 10 minute refresher on casting, where to hold the rod tip while following the bobber, how to hook a fish, and then recasting. We fished for over 3 hours and were successful in catching a lot of Brown and Rainbow Trout. Brady was a very patient and good teacher and guide. More than anything, he was very relaxed and wore a constant smile. To date, this was our finest fly fishing outing. Elk Mountain does it right!

We took the "Upper Roaring Fork - Moderate" trip. Shortly after I booked the trip on line, I received a phone call from their office letting me know that the pickup location that I selected was further than one that I was staying near. Great catch by the office to fix this...and we got to meet up 30 minutes later! When we met up with the group at our NEW meeting place, we received everything we would need for the rafting trip. Helmets, booties and shirts to help keep us dry were offered. Our guide, STUART, was fantastic. He has lived in the area his whole life and was able to tell us stories about everything we saw along the way. We boarded the bus for our trip and everyone wore masks to assist in keeping us safe. We got to our rafting site and had our picture taken. We would have our picture taken in 2 more locations as well. (You get the photos as part of the cost of the trip). We got in the raft and got more instructions. We went down the Roaring Fork and had a BLAST! These were class III rapids, but not all the time. Water depth will affect the rapids. We were told that June would "probably" be the best time, however we still had a great time.

Even though it was late in the season with lower waters, we had a great time on the Lower Roaring Fork! The team was engaging and well organized. The length of the trip was perfect and the amount of rapids vs still water float was great. Parker was terrific - fun and informative and very helpful for our daughter who has some special needs. Oh and the fact that the photos are included in the price - bonus! We will be back!

Professional, fun and knowledgeable! I highly recommend Elk Man Expeditions. We had a big group of family and friends, age 27-65yo. We did the Class 3, they said we were responsive enough that we could have done the Class IV, but it had just closed for the season. They were responsive in setting up our reservation and addressing Q's and were very well-organized on the trip. Everyone had a super nice time and I fully recommend them.

We enjoyed a very satisfying day on the Roaring Fork river with a skilled, fun and encouraging guide. Trevor patiently explained fly fishing techniques resulting in a lot of successful fishing, while skillfully oaring the dory through a few exciting rapids. The day surpassed our expectations and we will definitely be back for more!

Searched a bunch trying to self-serve schedule the most trusted, best value trip for my family, as I have a young child. Safety was a main concern, and Elk Mountain had a very experienced guide group. Our guide made us feel safe and secure while still enjoying the thrill of the rapids. My youngest was a little scared but came away so excited about the trip. They also all took the current COVID situation very seriously, and felt that I was with the right people.

We are planning a trip here next week and would like to go river rafting. We really dont want rough waters. Can you fall out? Is it really rough?

Very unlikely that you would fall out. It’s pretty mellow with a couple of exciting, but not scary, spots.

i'm honestly not really sure. This was my first rafting trip. From what I understand, the best rafting is in the June & July time frame from the snowmelt. So by the fall, it's lost much of that. But I'm sure there is something around. I can check around with some of my avid outdoorsmen friends and revert back if you want.
