We are a family of 5, ages 14-53 with varying fitness/health levels. We set out to hike this trail excited, yet having our doubts that all of us were fit enough to complete it. This is a technical trail in that there are boulders to hike over and fast flowing streams to cross - think 2 streams in all. For... More

This is a 'guest-review' from my brother-in-law - I was on the hike too and plan to write my own review soon: "You are living in fear." That's what a friend told me last year when she saw the lengths I had gone, to gear up and prepare for a long, high-country day-hike through fall weather in Alaska. I absently... More

A beautiful walk, as is the walk via East Maroon Creek trail, through the pines and Aspen trees ultimately ending up in Crested Butte, Colorado about 25 miles away, seeing vast expanses of wild flowers...It's not unusual for there to be snow high up, even in middle to late Summer, depending on how much snow we've had all year long.... The West Maroon Pass trail has been my favorite for years, despite the roundtrip from Aspen side being on the longer side (from Crested Butte, you save 1000 ft elevation gain and miles). Unfortunately, it's popularity leads to large, noisy, inconsiderate groups greatly diminishing your experience from this unique trail. Over the years, I got used to females making me... More

Awesome hike! 11 miles of moderate - strenuous hiking one way. Several different nature environments along the way. Don't pack too much in your backpack - the weight is tough. Our relatively fit group finished in 5-1/2 hours with a short lunch break. Dolly's Shuttle picked us up to bring up into town in Crested Butte ($15/person). I heard they... More

Bike Riding to Maroon Bells. In the summer you can ride to the Maroon Bells from Aspen in about an hour and a half if you are in good shape. Traffic is light as motor vehicles are restricted after 8 AM. The road is 9 miles of climbing but you are rewarded with a wonderful trip and view. There is... More

Views were magnificent and there was great camaraderie between other hikers on the trail. Would do it again in a heartbeat. We are "older adults" and it was challenging at times but exhilarating - took us between between 7 and 8 hours. Would like to caution others to NOT use Maroon Bells Shuttles to transport your car from Maroon Bells... More

Completed this trail going west on 10 August 2015. Took 7 hours from trail head to trail head. The Aspen side has stunning views of the Maroon Bells, Crater Lake and the mountain range; underfoot it is rocky so plan on being much slower than your usual hiking pace. To the pass it took us 5 hours with minimal stops;... More

Beautiful trail, the views are amazing. The only down part are the horses you have to watch where you step!

We absolutely loved this hike! Took High Mountain Taxi from our hotel in Aspen to Maroon Bells ($50) so we could start our hike earlier. It was definitely long and challenging towards the top of Maroon Pass, but it was worth it! It took us (2 adults in our 50's and our 2 teenage girls) about 7 hours. The girls... More
