This place is probably beautiful anytime of year, but in the fall it's unreal. The aspens were yellow this year with a lot of red added. Everyone was friendly and helpful.

The Maroon Bells are stunning and worth all the work to get there. Unless you just really like hiking rocky trails, stick with the scenic trail. The hike to Crater Lake is a bit of a headache without rewarding views.

We chose to drive here instead of taking the bus from Aspen Highlands to the Bells. It was an easy drive. While the Maroon Bells are touted as the most photographed place in Colorado, pictures simply don’t do the peaks justice. Maroon Lake Scenic Trail:...More

It was such a beautiful Trail to walk along! Be careful with the snow though. We didn't have the proper walking shoes so we kept slipping. It was stunning though especially with the snow. Not a hard trail as well.

An easy walk up to the headwaters of the lake, however, it was most noticeable that the drought conditions and poor snowfall from the previous season had left the water level quite low, as the Beaver house was well clear of the waters edge. as...More

Amazing fall colors around the lake. Weather was perfect during the last weekend of September. We took the local bus ride to Maroon bells. There is limited parking at Aspen Highlands , from where we took the bus.

Crater lake hike about 1.5-2hr depending on your level. We hiked another 20 minutes farther to get a view of both lakes but the trail was rather rockie at this point, so had lunch and went back.

Yes, the Disabled placard is one of the exceptions for users who can drive into the Maroon Bells area. There is a $10 recreation use fee. See stayaspensnowmass for more details
