Follows the Creek
Sep 2016 • Couples
We were camped at Difficult Campground so doing this hike was a no brainer for us. This is a moderately easy hike for the first mile or so and then gets into the wilderness area and starts to climb. That's about where they lost us. It follows Difficult Creek and offers some great views. Creek is too small to really fly cast so fishing is probably not an option but it's really pretty, especially with the aspens turning.

Easy Hike and Nice Day Park
Aug 2016 • Family
We started our afternoon festivities with a good touch football game in the pleasant day use field. While I grilled some fajitas, the boys played in the creek nearby.

The hike was simple, mostly flat for the area and my 4 year old did about half and I carried him on my shoulders the rest of the way. Saw some elk tracks and droppings. Saw some bear scat as well, so that was cool. Overall nice little family hike.

Another Beautiful Hike!
Jul 2016 • Family
Difficult Creek Trail is a moderate yet beautiful hike; a good part of the hike is inside the forest so the sun is not much of an issue, but as always, hiking in the morning is nicer!

The lower part of difficult good simple day hike

Scenery is beautiful, with log bridges that cross the Roaring Fork River, up into the pines and Aspen trees, up to a certain point, then trail gets steep and much more difficult...some people say trail is closed at that point, but one can go around the rocks and boulders in the way and keep going up and up and at some far off point one can come to the top of Aspen mountain. This used to be a mule road where silver ore was transorted via wagon down and then to local smelter in Aspen

Difficult Trail is Challenging
Sep 2015 • Couples
This trail is challenging and scenic. My husband and I hiked it the first day of fall and it was spectacular. Take your hiking poles for sure, since there are some steep areas with loose stones.
Although the trail was longer, hubby and I opted to hike for 1 and 1/2 hours because we needed the energy to walk back.
Very glad we'd already acclimated ourselves to the altitude; we met several people who hadn't and they were struggling.

BEAUTIFUL scenery
Jun 2015 • Couples
This area of over-populated Aspen is a breath of fresh air...literally. Loved the forested area, beautiful birds, the sound of the creek and the exercise. Rained a bit in June but added to the overall wonder of the experience. Seeking solitude? This is your place.

Nice hike, close to town.

This was a nice hike, I think it was 2.6 miles up, so just over 5 round trip. The trail does go further but it is not maintained.
This trail starts near the Difficult creek, then leaves it until the top where it rejoins the creek. Nice spot for lunch along the creek and some small falls in a tight ravine up top. The trail takes you up through a lot of Aspens and Spruces. The trail is steep in areas, with some rocky sections and loose rock sections.
This area is full of wildlife, we saw a big buck near the trail, my darn camera lens scared him away. A mountain lion has been reported in this area, on this trail, but we didn't see it. I think bear activity is up too as signs are posted.
This was a nice hike, with views of the valley below, colorful Aspens and wildlife.

Difficult Bears
Jul 2012
Good trail lots of switchbacks but not too steep. Just an up and back. Not a loop. Unfortunately we where chased by a bear up the mountain. Quite a scary experience as there were not a lot of people on the trail at the time. Alls well that ends well
