You go up the road, almost to the end. That is How To Get to Cathedral Lake Trail. The trailhead is on the right. The trailhead road is rough. The hike is steep and up up up... 2000 ft elevation gain over almost 3 miles. It is a popular trail.

We missed the entrance and started pear pass a mile or so down the road so we did about 3.5 miles before starting Cathedral which didn't help me at all. Hahaha At the end of the day we took 1.5 hours up and my hiking partner would've done it in an hour but I needed breaks. We did do the... More

This is a spectacular hike through trees (when turning color, the Aspens are to die for) and up switch backs. 2.8 mile hike which gains 2000 vertical feet, so you need to be ready for it, but it so totally worth it. The lake (see photo) is nestled up against the peaks and rising very steep side walls. REALLY WORTH... More

Cathedral Lake trail is awesome. Get there early because parking fills up fast. The trail is a great workout. It starts with switchbacks but eases up for a good breather at points on the hike.

Great trail with a happy end ! About 2 hours, consistent uphill ( moderate ), and a strong switchback before getting to the lake. Overall, you do not need to be an expert ; the lake is beautiful. D o not drink the water, though..very important : that water has giardia in it.

This lake is gorgeous - like a postcard. The hike is rather easy, but since it's a significant elevation change, be ready. There are tons of little things to see from the wildflower fields, the waterfalls and all of the animal life that's around. We didn't make it to electric pass, but it was such a great fun day. And... One of my favorite hikes in the Aspen area. From my experience, its not very heavily trafficked. The icy mountain lake at the top was a sweet payoff for me and my dog. We both loved it.

This is one of the hardest hikes we have done so far but we would definitely do it again , and again, if and when we come back to Aspen. We did this hike on our last day which I/m glad as it would have been a bit hard coming from sea level to undertake on the first day we... More

A lovely trail but long with a lot of uphill. The trail ends at a lovely lake but make sure you check the weather before starting this trail. Poles might be needed for some, lots of water and sun protection needed. A really good workout, not for the lighthearted hiker.

I took a fall hike with my dog a few weeks ago, to Cathedral Lake. The trail head is easy to find when you take the Castle Creek road just past the mining town site of Ashcroft. There are a couple steeper switch backs near the end of the trail, but otherwise, the climb felt fairly gradual. The fall colors... More
