A beautiful way to experience nature and see the many different ecosystems available during our three day stay at Avila Beach.
Beginning at our hotel, in one direction we could walk through the beautiful, geographically educational wooded area that ended at Ontario Rd., near the 101 Fwy.
In the other direction and usually on a bicycle, we explored our way to downtown Avila Beach, Front St. and the ocean.
Another day, we continued beyond Front St. and followed the shoreline from downtown to Port San Luis Pier.
Truly a wonderful vacation.

Popular trail, expect kids on bikes, dog walkers. Be prepared with enough water and avoid on hot days. Many areas are in direct sun. If you're a serious cyclist, go early to avoid crowds or when crowds thin out.

We hike a lot so trails are our thing but this bike trail was a treat to experience. Great for walkers and bicycles. We also saw a lot of families enjoying the sunshine and their kiddos roller skating or riding their scooters.

One of the best things about this trail is that it is well shaded for at least half of the distance. So you can head here for a walk on days that are super hot elsewhere. There is a place to stop for food midway and then places to visit once you arrive at Avila Beach. Most people are courteous but beware of people walking dogs on retractable leashes and kids learning how to ride a bike. I have almost been hit several times and once I was knocked down by a girl on a bike. This trail is for Multiple types of ambulation and transportation and that is both great and dangerous. This trail is not recommended for road bike riders in large groups, going 14mph+ as there is not sufficient space and too many others on the trail to make it safe. Weekdays are the best to enjoy the ambiance of the trail including wildlife, birds, plant life and signs along the way that describe various aspects of plant life etc.

Every time my husband and I visit SLO, we run this trail every day. It's beautiful and safe. Lots of people walk, run, bike this path but it doesn't feel crowded. You can start either at Avila Beach or in SLO, we usually change it up for the variety. It's not a roundtrip, so you do have to turn around to get back to your car. We have never had a problem leaving our car in the SLO trail head parking lot because there are plenty of other people coming and going.

I have only walked this trail but most people bike it and, since it is flat and wide, it is especially good to bike with children. On one side of the trail is a creek and it is well shaded. It can get quite popular and if you plan to walk it, heads up for bicyclists. We have taken our dogs on the walk and enjoy it.

The Bob Jones trail makes for a perfect run or bike from the beach to the freeway and back. It's pretty flat, so if you're looking for a challenge, Bob Jones is not for you. But if you want a very lovely stroll, jog, bike, or dog-walk, Bob Jones is perfect. Along the trail, you go through a mix of coastal forest, rolling hills, by a stream, and of course the beach at one end. I felt very safe along this trail (though I admit I always go during the day).

My husband and I do this ride every time we come into the area. The trail head is also really close to the Avila barn. It is relatively flat all the way into town with one small hill in the golf course. It can get quite busy with lots of kids and dogs. Not everybody has the best trail etiquette so be prepared to use your bell on occasion and let them know you are coming. You also ride by the back of sycamore mineral Springs so if you want to take a little detour through their property, you can make a reservation for a hillside hot tub on your way back to the car.

Lovely paved hike and bike trail that follows a creek. The shade of the trees that line the path was truly welcome on the hot day we walked. This multi-use path is enjoyed by cyclists, joggers, people walking their dogs and pushing strollers. We even encountered 2 people on short XC skiis on wheels. Everyone shares the path respectfully. There are even signs about the trail's history and flora.

Only if you start in town. A nice bike rental store is open about a block off the boardwalk.

It's a great start to the ride in Avila Beach. We rented E-Bikes from Pedego for the whole family and everyone had fun. The electric assist motor can be used as much or as little as you'd like in bikes of different styles. The folks af Pedego were super friendly and very helpful letting us try them out in a nearby parking lot to figure out which bike everyone wanted. It was a great day for all !
We began the ride by first visiting the Port San Luis Pier and then riding back to the Bob Jones trail, then a final return loop back to Pedego. We'll be back for sure !
