It was super easy to set everything up on line the night before our tandem Kayak 2 hour adventure. We described our skill level, height and weight( so we don't sink the kayak). All was prepared when we arrived. After a quick review of the animals and locations we could visit during two hours we were helped into the tandem kayak. Everyone was wearing a face mask and it was required to visit the office. We sat on the deck and then easily slid into the kayak without overturning. We headed off to explore the large kelp beds which looked very healthy. Here we found a raft of female sea otters with pups on their chests floating in the kelp. It was amazing to see so many at Avila. Later we saw a small raft of otters in another kelp bed. We kayaked around a large island/rock covered with bird poop and a large flock huge Pelicans. Got some great photos of these strange creatures. Stroked over to the beach and pulled out our kayak and walked up to the Lighthouse for a break and to stretch our legs. On our return, we viewed large but solitary male otters cracking shells on there chests with some type of rock tool and eating their prey. Also viewed numerous sea lions on a warf that has been developed for them to keep them off the anchored boats. This is a great experience and although the days was overcast, it was totally calm and very quiet. We highly recommend this Co for kayak rentals and SUP adventures. Best to avoid windy days and excursions in the mid to later afternoon.

My family of four was looking for an outdoor adventure while in Pismo and Avila Beach Paddlesports did not disappoint. From booking to completing the tour they were professional, organized, and personable. Skyler was a wonderful tour guide sharing his vast knowledge of the area and the wildlife while finding little adventures like "kayak surfing" and exploring the local lighthouse. His enthusiasm was contagious and my 14 and 16 year olds said he was one of the best guides they have experienced. We saw otters, sea lions, pelicans, and many birds up close and personal. We will definitely book again.

They weren't offering any tours only rentals u till the season opened. They did however show us the basic use of the oars and the route to take to: see the seals, going under the pier, to the beach island and went up to the lighthouse to use the restroom. We took about 2 hrs.

Over the years, we have always enjoyed kayaking here in Avila Beach. The water is calm, the scenery is pretty, and there are usually lots of sea lions, otters, and sea birds to watch. This time we paddled over to the nearby lighthouse and must have seen 30 or so otters along the way. The staff here are friendly and helpful and the prices are quite reasonable. If you have never kayaked before, this is a great place to start. Highly recommended.
