This is well worth the experience. My daughter and I hadn’t kayaked before, and we both agree we would do this again and for a longer period of time. We received great customer service - help with life jackets, instructions on how to paddle, suggested route and points of interest, safety instructions, reassurance and kindness. You should definitely plan on getting wet, but not soaked. The seats retain water from getting in and out, and water can drip down the paddle during use. We wish we had taken a small picnic for the beach and rented the kayaks 3 hrs instead of 2. We were able to see cranes, sea lions, and otters. It was amazing and so peaceful! Avila Beach Paddlesports is a must-do while in the San Luis Obispo area.

Kayak rentals are scheduled online. We arrived and were immediately set up for our excursion. The attendant help you slip into your kayak via a small pier or wharf nearby. We were given directions of where to see ses otters and how to approach the San Luis light station. This was a great, pleasant and safe experience and got us to see things close up that we had not seen before. Also beach star kayak in a small area and walked up to see the light station. A very enjoyable experience.

It was super easy to set everything up on line the night before our tandem Kayak 2 hour adventure. We described our skill level, height and weight( so we don't sink the kayak). All was prepared when we arrived. After a quick review of the animals and locations we could visit during two hours we were helped into the tandem kayak. Everyone was wearing a face mask and it was required to visit the office. We sat on the deck and then easily slid into the kayak without overturning. We headed off to explore the large kelp beds which looked very healthy. Here we found a raft of female sea otters with pups on their chests floating in the kelp. It was amazing to see so many at Avila. Later we saw a small raft of otters in another kelp bed. We kayaked around a large island/rock covered with bird poop and a large flock huge Pelicans. Got some great photos of these strange creatures. Stroked over to the beach and pulled out our kayak and walked up to the Lighthouse for a break and to stretch our legs. On our return, we viewed large but solitary male otters cracking shells on there chests with some type of rock tool and eating their prey. Also viewed numerous sea lions on a warf that has been developed for them to keep them off the anchored boats. This is a great experience and although the days was overcast, it was totally calm and very quiet. We highly recommend this Co for kayak rentals and SUP adventures. Best to avoid windy days and excursions in the mid to later afternoon.
