Don’t come to Avalon thinking you’ll be running out of your hotel to the beach. There is a poor excuse for a beach in the downtown and another one about a 10-minute walk up the coast to Descanso Beach. The beaches are very small and rocky, and people were crammed onto them. In normal times, probably the best thing about the place would be the bar. But it was a COVID nightmare. All over Avalon, half of the people acted like COVID didn't exist. It was scary. With regard to COVID, there were many non-compliant people on the ferry and around downtown. There are big signs everywhere telling people to wear masks and stay 6 meet apart but about a third ignored this. Some places seemed closed. The Catalina Museum (which looked interesting) was closed. Some of the restaurants had outdoor dining, but some were only open for dinner. There was generally a real lack of outdoor tables. We had trouble finding a safe place for breakfast or lunch. I'm sure there are a lot of good reasons for going to Catalina Island. But honestly, I don’t see the appeal of the town of Avalon of the beaches there. You can go to dozens of SoCal beach towns for a better experience. Except for the Bluewater Grille and Toyon, it was a wasted weekend.

We had a cabana for the day and it was everything I had hoped for! Beto greeted us with a wonderful smile, gave us our wrist bands and directed us to our cabana. Jesse was our server and was very attentive, excellent service with a smile you could see behind his mask. I will definitely return!

Literally the best staff. So friendly and accommodating. You truly feel like you are at a 5 star resort. Couldn’t pick a better place to spend the day in Catalina!

Beautiful beach, very relaxing. On the bay so the waves are not big. Lots of people to watch. Nice shops right next to the beach to shop and eat at.
