This is the old county courthouse that was built during the heyday of the gold rush in and around the Auburn area. Multi-story, brick building with columns and grand entry ways were the norm back then, and they are kept in great shape for today's generation. The whole first floor is the Placer County Museum, made up of a wide... More

This is a really beautiful courthouse from back in the day. Parking can be limiting as this is still an active court house with cases going on daily. The floors are beautiful. The wood is beautiful. Go upstairs to the 2nd floor just to look at it. The front entry steps can be aerobic! The museum once held more indian... More

I had to do some business at the Placer County Courthouse one day and was shocked to see a WONDERFUL American Indian Museum there! They had a wonderful collection of artifacts. I would recommend a trip with the kids or for anyone actually! Enjoy!

I have lived in Auburn for over 30 years now and have enjoyed seeing this building every time I go into this area. A lovely sight and inside it is worthy of visiting. Be prepared to climb lots of stirs but there is a back entrance for those of you who cannot climb. ENJOY!

The Placer County Courthouse is a fairly well-preserved and maintained historical landmark in Auburn, CA, the Placer County seat. It's situated on a rise in the Old Town and looks impressive from many vantage points in the city. The Courthouse is a working landmark and still houses the superior courts of the county, so it's inspiring to be in such... More

One of the 4 remaining domed courthouses in California! Picturesque with a small museum inside. See the gold nuggets on display.

My friend and I went here after a hike last weekend, and we were glad we made the effort to stop by! They have a great museum in the basement, and the building itself is stunning!

Take a look at what the Gold Rush money bought back in the day. This is a lovely bit of architecture. Bring your camera. Its totally a place worth a pic.

Pick a Saturday morning that's brisk and not too hot and go to the courthouse just before 10:00 for a great tour of old Auburn. It's free but allow yourself about two hours. You'll see so much history and when the tour is over, there are several good places to stop for lunch. Our favorite is Awful Annies.
