About
Born in Durango Mexico, Ricardo has lived in California for over the last 25 years. The Accidental Artist has been creating his metal animal kingdom, since his daughter Lianna at the age of 6 requested a dinosaur of her own for Christmas, after watching the movie Jurassic Park III. At the time he was a cowboy boot salesman, having traded a pair of boots for a welding machine. After a few weeks, his first sculpture would be a 20ft tall Tyrannosaurus Rex. What started as a hobby quickly became a passion to transform metal into incredible life like creations. Since then Ricardo has become a well-known sculptor designer.

We decided on a desert drive to take a break from the pandemic lockdown. Advised by Westways magazine we followed the map down to Ricardo Breceda Sculptures in Aguanga California. Admission was free but there is a donation box. There were many creative pieces on display here large and small. Supplies must come from a salvage yard as many car parts can be seen repurposed into these pieces. They put the rust in rustic as each piece is red with rust. At first we were just looking then we decided to make a purchase. That’s when we noticed there were no price tags on the items. We questioned the vendor and were quoted art gallery prices for discarded sparkplugs and worn out disc brakes rotors. We countered only to rudely rebuffed. They have a very large collection out there and perhaps they want it to stay that way. We did what all the other visitors seemed to be doing, take pictures and move along. Good weather and a pleasant scenic drive overall a great day.

We drove past and actually made a u-turn and came back to stop and take a closer look. There are a ton of art sculptures and they all look amazing. There are a lot of very large ones that you can easily see while driving past, but there are also quite a large variety of smaller sculptures, colorful pots and other artwork. It was definetly worth stopping and taking a look.

We met the artist, Ricardo himself when we visited this weekend.. He made all those sculptures in the Fields of borrega springs , free for all to enjoy and thanks to his Sponsor Dennis Avery of Avery Labels..
Please do check out his private studio right in the "open" gallery, on his land lot...Always wondered how he managed to create and move these 30 foot larger than life sculptures ...must be quite an endeavor!

Stopped here to see the gallery which is visible from the highway. Have see all the sculptures in Borrego Springs, Ca which are spread out in many aras.

The attendant wante $10 per person to see which could be used to reduce the costs of a purchase. Wandered the area which is quite large for several minutes and fould pieces from small to large.

Got 2 small pieces for the price of entry. Would stop again to see, very interesting

An exhilarating artist with the most extraordinary sculptures. We were blown away when we saw his over 100 works in Borrego Springs and then we found out you could visit his studio in Aguanga.

The studio is an open air park where you can admire and purchase his work. I had a long conversation with Ricardo and his right hand man Mario. A really unforgettable visit. Don't miss it!

My brothers and I spotted the huge sculptures and immediately turned the car around. The owner was so friendly and told us to go ahead and look around. The sculptures were magnificent. I purchased a smaller dinosaur, a cobra snake, and a scorpion. They were so helpful to make sure we got everything we needed to pack our sculptures. The grounds are big with so many cool and different sculptures to see. It’s a grand experience, don’t pass it by.

It was HOT and windy. And i mean evil hot! But it was totally worth getting out of the air con in the car and braving the heat to wander around these amazing sculptures!

Thank goodness that it was out of the question to ship them home (Australia) but I did notice that he ships all around the US. Oh to have one of these beauties on display!

They are so eye catching as you approach. We had been planning to go to Borrego Springs and I was very disappointed that we were going to miss out on seeing this impressive work. Luckily we were able to stop here on our way from Carlsbad to Joshua Tree and see these massive works (maybe not as good as seeing them in the desert but still impressive!)

my wife and I have been looking for metal cactus to put in pots in our front yard. I found this place on Google and decided to visit. I had seen his work at a place in Las Vegas and thought it to be pricey. well prices at the factory gallery are about 1/3 the price, so we bought 5 pieces. definitely recommend and the large pieces like dinosaurs and horses are cool.

We are right off Highway 79 S. You cant miss the large rows of sculptures facing the highway. You will also come across a few pieces on the highway on your way to us. This means you're getting closer. If you are coming from Temecula we are on the left side, if you're coming from the opposite direction we are on the right. There currently isn't a few to visit but soon may add one on account of wanting to make the grounds more visitor friendly by adding more amenities. We want to create a park for everyone to enjoy my fathers amazing sculptures and also a place to relax and take in the scenery after that long drive. Hope everyone keeps on visiting and sharing your experiences. Thank you <3

I knew he was moving, but didn't know when in 2016 or where and was happy to find it driving East on Hwy 79 and we passed the new location with the life-size stagecoach sculpture now just a short way West of the Stagecoach Inn and a few miles from the junction to Anza/Idy. You'll probably pass it by like we did and have to make a U-turn if coming from Idyllwild or the East. The horses were moved, but are visible on the hilltop prior to the new location when heading East from Temecula.

There are now rows and rows of his life size or larger creations all together in a large, open parking area and also smaller but authentic items starting at $5 and many under $100 . He was actually there and and my two visitors were in awe of his work and excited to meet and talk with him.

It all began when his daughter saw Jurassic Park III and asked for a dinosaur for Christmas. He decided to make a life-size Tyranosaurus Rex for her and his new career with unique, life-like sculptures began. He will create items for clients from just a photo and is an amazing, gifted and humble artist.

We all 3 decided to each buy a peacock that moved in the wind for $40 each. When we discovered he only took cash or checks, we weren't sure we had enough cash as we weren't carrying checks. He said, "it's OK, just mail it to me". My goodness, where do you find that kind of trust today? Absolutely worth the drive from the coast or inland.

I've informed TA of the new address, but never seen them correct anything in my years of writing for them,
