About
Escape Artist is a real life, fun, interactive escape room adventure where the goal is to find your way out of a room using your problem solving skills and teamwork. $20 Per person. The fabulous game master is available to offer clues and hints if you happen to be stymied at any point. Most people do get out within the allotted time. The uniqueness about Escape Artist DC is that, first and foremost, we are all about storytelling. When you are in the room we want you to be part of an experience. We make the challenge fit the context of the theme in a manner of a narrative. It all falls together nicely in the end and you get the satisfaction of applying all your mental faculties such as visual, spatial, analytical and be able to work as a team player.

Our family loves escape rooms so we made a point to visit this one on a recent vacation to Washington, DC. Everything went smoothly. While groups of up to 10 are allowed per timeslot, we appreciated that we didn't have anyone added to our family of six. Our host was personable and helpful. The instructional/orientation videos were useful and well-done. This particular room set-up employed a variety of technologies which all worked flawlessly. The difficulty level seemed pretty reasonable to us. This would be a good place to visit for those who are curious about escape rooms and want to try one for themselves.

Night at the Museum was a perfect beginner escape room. It was accessible to a group with an age range of 9 - 45. The puzzles were engaging and challenging but not overly frustrating. The hints were well-designed. Great fun!

We went with our three boys (ages 5, 10, 13) and had a great time. The room we solved was an "art heist". Very fun and challenging, but not so hard that we did not escape the room. There were multiple solves, each one different from the last. The two older boys actively helped solve the puzzle, each getting a few clues each. Our youngest son was glad to be there and fed off our energy. Really a blast - check it out. Better than a movie!

We went with this first escape experience because the price couldn't be beat. We had a blast even though we didn't even escape! We had 7 adults (ages 29-74 and 2 children (ages 11 and 13). Everyone was able to contribute and everyone had fun.

When reviewing, with our 8 and 13 year old girls, our trip to Washington, our visit to Escape Artist DC made the top of the list - above the world-famous museums! We had no idea what to expect - never having done this. And ended up having so much fun - we will do it again for sure. Figuring out the clues is great fun and requires great teamwork. They are really quite clever. This would be great for a family, friends or work teams. Awesome idea! The owner recommended Matchbox for dinner afterward - just a short walk away it was perfect. Our favourite dinner of the trip too!

For my birthday, my friends and I (8 total) did the Gallery Heist room, and we had SUCH a fun time! It was a short walk from the Eastern Market Metro, and there are a number of bars and restaurants along the direct route to the Escape Artist location, so it's perfect to get a bite/have a drink and then head there or vice versa. I won't give out any spoilers, but the game was SO creative, and there were so many elements to completing the entire thing that everyone has a chance to solve a part of the mystery. I was honestly worried that we'd figure it out super quickly and it would feel like we did't do much, but we go't got out of the room just as the buzzer was going off, so it did take the full 45 minutes. At the end, we all agreed that we want to come back and do the other rooms. I highly recommend Escape Artist DC!

I will start this off by saying I love escape games and have played them in 3 states and 4 countries. We played as a group of 2 in the House of Pawns Room. The game was unique. It involved more critical thinking than most escape games. I will leave it at that so there are no spoilers.
I hate to be the first person to give a 3 out of 5 but we had a really strange experience. The owner was extremely busy. We needed to get in touch with him for a clarifying question and it took over 5 minutes. After unsuccessfully knocking on the door and yelling, we had to make two phone calls from our room to his business number to get a hold of him. The strangest part was when we escaped with just over one minute left, he was nowhere to be found. We lingered for nearly 10 minutes in the upstairs landing hoping to share our excitement with him and talk about some of the fun and difficult components of the game we played. He never showed up. I suppose we would have been locked in the room for at least 10 more minutes if we had not escaped.
On the way out, we looked in the lobby and video briefing room, but did not find him. I guess you could say we escaped the room and the entire building. Hopefully there was no emergency and he was just short staffed that day, but either way it definitely detracted from our experience.

Thanks for visiting Escape Artist DC. I apologize for not being available. Usually we have a staff of 3 on a busy day such as Saturday. Unfortunately one of our staff was running late. Two other groups finished just about the same time as you did and they were all excited to share their experience with me and I was on Level 1 talking to them. I heard the phone ring however, didn't realize it was from you. It was a perfect storm kind of situation. I did come up to debrief you since you were the only second group with 2 people to ever finish that room in allotted time thus looking forward to speaking with you and get some feedback. Anyway, I am glad it you brought this up since we will be making the following changes this week:
- We have removed one of the emergency contact numbers and have one number dedicated just for emergencies. That way it's easy to identify the source of the call.
- We have installed an easily accessible emergency key in all rooms as a back up.
Hope you enjoyed solving the mystery as we put a lot of thought into designing the concept to make it unique by shying away from lock heavy designs and focusing on analytical information processing mimicking real life.

Our family of four had a blast at the Escape Artist DC, recently. This was the first time we had been to an escape room and we definitely want to do it again. We have a tween and a teen and we were all able to figure out clues to solve the mystery. We did the Art Gallery room and it was great. The clues were challenging but with some focus and team work you can do it. The staff was also so friendly and helpful. Sadly, I can't remember the name of the girl who hosted us, but she was terrific. I definitely recommend this.

Getting there: plenty of parking nearby, on the street in front, around the corner, or in a pay lot under the overpass on the corner of 8th & I. Most of it is 2hr parking. The plan is for you to show up 15 minutes before your time slot, but with DC traffic - aim for earlier. You may even want to show up really early and go to one of the many great restaurants nearby, at least a few have rooftop patios.
The game: before you enter the room, you're told the situation, where to find tips, and some strategy. Some clue's are easy to find and some are hard, and while they can be solved independently, you sometimes have to solve one clue before you can use the knowledge of another.
Solving the game really makes it worthwhile so don't wait too long to use the tips.

Escape Artist DC was a perfect addition to our day in DC. The game is challenging and lots of fun for children and adults. Escaping the room requires teamwork and thinking out of the box. Our group of 6 couldn't stop discussing how we could have done things differently in order to finish on time. We vowed to return when the next game is introduced.
