This place gets 4 stars for their cute outdoor patio. It was a bit chilly on the night we went but we braved the temperatures while getting through a cocktail. I had the bees knees cocktail which was average. Service was quick and the staff were friendly. Would probably visit again in the warmer months to hang outside.

I'd heard about Green Hat gin on a radio story, and bought a bottle at the beginning of summer ahead of a party. By end of summer it was already gone -- spent making classic martinis. You probably have to like gin to appreciate the flavor, and for those of us who do like gin, it's a remarkable product.

A colleague said they'd taken the factory tour. So we checked it out.

The factory is tiny, but the visit was a lot of fun -- in part, perhaps, because our tour started with tasting two of the four gin products on display, followed by tasting the two flavors of Vermouth they produce.

The tour was actually challenging, because another tour had gone ahead of us, and the people wouldn't leave after but stood around chatting, their volume going up and up. Then somebody turned up the music, so ultimately it was impossible to hear the guy giving the tour. The tour was interesting, though, when we were at the back and could actually hear what he was saying about the process.

Ultimately, the noise levels became so chaotic that I just had to give up trying to hear the guy, so there are still some things I never understood -- like, the difference between the slim copper towers, and the coils on a still like you see in the movies; and why the guy kept telling us about making beer when we were touring a gin factory. Totally lost.

But anyway, when you've started the tour by downing five shots, you keep smiling.

The place was awesome! John gave a super passionate tour and made me want to learn more. Carter did a wonderful job at the tasting table. She was friendly and knowledgeable. The place was busy so I suggest arriving early. Been in the food & booze biz for a while and these people know their stuff. Locally sourced and made with love

A year or two ago we were lucky enough to sample Green Hat Gin at a tasting at Union Market. It is a gin produced by the first distillery to operate legally in Washington for a long, long time. It is a marvelous Gin with lots of herbal and floral notes that makes a wicked G&T or just goes down straight. Once you taste it you will be hooked! We heard they do Saturday afternoon tours and tastings at the brewery so we went over and it was like a fun party! The were giving samples of three different gins and three vermouth, playing vintage vinyl on a turntable, and you could buy fantastic mixed drinks made with their products for 5 dollars each! The location is out of the way in a sketchy part of DC but it is worth the Uber ride - one of the best Saturday afternoon attractions in DC!

We stopped here while making our rounds of the distillers in the area. It was great fun here and we'll be back. Great bar scene. They have a tasting station, which you can try their Gin and a variety of vermouths. We noticed that they had a Gin bottling party going on which looked like a lot of fun. The area in general has limited parking, so take an Uber/Lyft, especially if you plan to be there late into the evening. The area is turning around, but you still need to be careful.

Come here for a tour and tasting on Saturdays (1-4pm). They have DELICIOUS $5 cocktails to sip while you wait for the free tasting and tour. I learned a lot about the process and history of gin-making, and the gin was delicious. Green Hat is so good!

On a recent trip to Ivy City, an up and coming former warehouse district located in NE DC, is an up and coming distillery who is knocking it out of the park with at least 3 different gins and a few sweet and dry vermouths. Last Saturday, we popped in and were blown away at the energy. There were two tasting tables and a cocktail bar in the front end of the warehouse distillery. In the back end were 10-20 “neighbors” who were volunteering to help bottle, label and seal some of the flagship gin, Green Hat. It turns out for a few hours, the volunteers get to learn about spirits, but they also get a free drink or two. We met up with the head distiller who was a wealth of knowledge on the distilling small batches and botanical steeping techniques in copper kettles New Columbia uses to make its signature Gin. If you like gin, you have to try this place. If you are not sure about gin, you should go. If you don’t like gin, go anyway and watch, listen and learn how entrepreneurial spirit can overcome small details to produce a quality product. Best wishes.

We've seen handsome Green Hat bottles at DC restaurants/bar, so we decided to go distillery tour + tasting (Sa 1-4pm). We parked on the street in front of the distillery. At 1pm, there're already 10+ people. We tastes 3 types of gin, summer cap, red/white vermouth. They're very spicy (not hot spicy), but tasty. They also sell cocktails for $5.

The founder/owner did the tour. The distillery is very small, but informative tour.

You can also purchase green hat on site. We brought home a couple of bottles as VA ABC stores don't carry them.

We also wanted to go to another gin distillery nearby (one eight distillery), but we saw a car broken in and homeless population, so we decided to leave. Be careful where you park, e.g. Okie ST is where we found broken-in car.
