We recently saw "Southside with You" at the Loews Uptown Theatre and thoroughly enjoyed our experience. The theatre has all the bells and whistles of classic "old school" movie theatre. The staff was wicked friendly and the seats are very comfortable. I highly recommend seeing a movie here!

This is our 'go to' theatre for movie night. The seats are comfortable - not super luxurious - but good enough. The screen is huge. Lots of locals can be found here which says a lot. The only drawback is with the sound. We recently saw Captain America Civil War and parts of the movie were really hard to hear.... More

The biggest screen in the DC area harking back to the days of Cinemascope if not earlier. If there is a big blockbuster out, this is the place to see it. The screen actually curves that's how big it is. The theater can now play 3D as well as regular versions of the same movie. Saw the original Star Wars... More

We walked to the Uptown on a Sunday afternoon to see Star Wars: The Force Awakens. It is the last of the big screen theaters and is showing its age. It looks and feels old. There were almost endless previews before the movie. We hope the theatre can be spruced up a bit and can feel a little younger going... More

Longtime Washingtonians like to wax nostalgic about the Uptown, myself included (I saw Star Wars here in 1977). And with the closing of KB Cinema on Wisconsin in 2005, the Uptown is the sole surviving big screen in the city. Don’t let this fact draw you here; what could have been the grande dame of DC cinema is instead a... More

A group of us went to see Mission Impossible Sunday 8/9 at 4:10. I mention this because the people working at that time and after were the best! The popcorn was popped before our eyes, warm, and tasty. The theater was clean/neat and everything was perfect for movie viewing. It was, however, after the movie that we found out just... More

The Uptown is one of the last of the really big screen movie houses — The Last in this city — where the movie goer's experience is immersive and one can almost feel lost in the scene.

The only theater left with one gigantic screen, while others have been turned into multiplexes -- and this even has a balcony, where I think audiences get the best view. It's a great old-time theater, with a history of grand openings of first-run films.

Wouldn't know it was there but very accessible and great nearby options for dinner before or good concession options in house. Bathroom is a bit out of the way, so go before the show.

While not one of the old "glamour" cinemas, the Uptown is an excellent place to experience an old-school viewing of film. View first-run movies on a HUGE screen, either from not-terribly comfortable orchestra or balcony seating. Avg-good concessions are available.
