The monastery in DC is the closest that some will get to visiting the Holy Land. The Monastery of Mount St. Sepulchre, designated a National Historic Site in 1991, has been a place of worship and pilgrimage for thousands of visitors since the church's dedication in 1899. Free tours are given daily of the catacombs, church, and gardens.

The grounds, catacombs, replica of the Holy Lands, tour, and tour guide were all excellent. Guided tours are offered. There was no fee, however, they accept donations following the tour to help to perpetuate the site. I would suggest 2 hours minimum in order to get an overview. Plan on more time - a minimum of 3 hours if you... More

Difficult to imagine that such a spiritual place exist in Washington DC. The Baroque style monastery is gorgeous, especially it's dome. The gardens are sublime. The Underground crypts and altars aRe beautiful faithful recreations of the holiest shrines in Christianity. Friar Mark, was a truly blessed vessel.

What a beautiful ornate church! It is inspiring just to sit there and admire the intricate carvings and designs. The various altars are amazing. The gardens a beautiful and peaceful. Was not such a fan of the catacombs but were interesting replicas of things found in the holy land. Definitely worth the trip, especially for those who live in the... More

This is a great place to just walk, rest, and think. They built the replicas of holy sites for those who could not make the pilgrimages to include a small sampling of the catacombs. The cloister and garden was the best for me as it is very peaceful and thought-provoking. The gift shop annoyed me a bit as it was... More

The Monastery has quite a few interesting sections, from the architecture and gardens to the workshops where various artists work in glass, ceramics, multimedia, and crafts. It is a great indulgence to take an hour or so and head out to this destination but well worth the time.

This is a grand place to walk through in the spring time, with all their well maintained garden areas in full bloom. But if it is the wrong time of year for that, visiting their exquisite church is a wonderful experience, whether you are just exploring the grounds or attending one of their lovely services. The architecture is truly delightful... More

As a Catholic this monastery gives one the opportunity to make a pilgrimage to DC and experience the Holy Land here in America! The grounds and monastery include many replicas of the iconic sites in the Holy Land. My wife and I visited for the first time during spring and the grounds and gardens were lush and in bloom making... More

I visited the Monastery this week with a group. We were a little short on time, so I plan to go back when I can stay longer. It's a very interesting place. Their mission is to take care of and protect all the important sites in the Holy Land. And inside, most of these sites are recreated for visitors to... More

This is probably my favorite place in the spring. I will start driving by at the first sign of spring, and keep on checking until the tulips are in full bloom. This year I caught it on just the right day. The grounds are simply beautiful when all the flowers and trees are out and contrasted against the beautiful architecture.... More
