I happened to see the cemetery while excising down Rock Creek park. Take time to visit the Cemetery when walking the park. You can find a way to move out of the winding paths to find this attraction.

Cemetery buffs will find much to like about Oak Hill. My wife’s genealogical research revealed that a number of her ancestors are buried there, and we chose a sunny fall afternoon to pay a visit to their graves. First impressions: it is large, hilly, well-maintained,...More

Although not as vast as Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn or Mount Auburn in Boston, Oak Hill Cemetery is a lovely specimen of the "rural cemetery" in Georgetown. It is well maintained with neat paths and plantings. I wasn't familiar with any of the names of...More

We really just skirted along the top of the cemetery along "R Street" -- but had my travelling partner had good, solid knees, I would have gleefully descended among the markers and monuments. What really struck me was that the cemetery seemed to cover the...More

We took a stroll through this attractive old cemetery towards the end of a morning walking around in Georgetown. Spread out over a hill-side, it's certainly one of the more attractive cemeteries I've visited. Very peaceful and open to the public.

This historic cemetery in a park-like setting in the Dumbarton Oaks area of Georgetown was founded by the same William Corcoran who also founded the Corcoran Gallery of Art, and he is buried here. Other famous "residents" include presidential candidate James Blaine who lost to...More

I visited on a snow day after a walk in the surrounding neighborhood. This cemetery is like a park, and it was ethereal in the snow. It is much larger than I expected, with sprawling terraced hills, gently curved pathways, and lots of trees. I'm...More
