It was dreadfully wet night, so instead of an open top bus we were in a luxury coach which was a Godsend. The trip cost 45 dollars each and we had a fantastic tour guide called Dion. He was so knowledgeable about history and made the trip interesting and interactive. This man probably knows more than a history teacher , also you could tell he really loves his job and is so engaging. The tour let us stop off at the Lincoln memorial, the White House and the war memorials. Also made a stop at the Martin Luther JR memorial, which was amazing, lit up at nighttime. We also travelled out of Washington and saw the Iwo Jima memorial, which was important for me to visit. We passed the graveyard at Arlington and drove past the pentagon.I really enjoyed this trip, obviously a dry night would have been better, but I give credit to an exceptional guide who made the weather unimportant. Only niggle of the trip, was the fact it was so difficult to find the pick up stop. It was a pick up at L’Enfant Plaza and the map is with the ticket. We couldn’t find it anywhere, but it’s directly beside the Spy museum,so perhaps that would have been better to say on the ticket.

Khaled Ismael (Carl) was the absolute best driver ever! We had him all week for an 8th grade school trip to DC and he went above and beyond! Several people lost things and he found them. He became a counselor to our kids. Our trip would not have been the same without him. He was a true blessing!

Only one bus an hour in January. We booked a 2 day ticket at $59 each and could not use them without wasting most of out time at stops. App just gives false info on times but you can see on the app one of the 2 buses always waiting at stop one. Use google to find what you want to see and very cheap Ubers to get about and you will get a lot more done

Purchased hop on/hop off through Groupon. Glad we didn’t pay retail price - my review would be much worse if we had. Overall a pleasant experience. However buses are spread pretty far out and if they are “ahead”‘of schedule they will sit and wait at stop 1 until the next hour. Our guide was great! But at the transfer to Arlington we had to wait for a smaller passenger van to take us. We had been on the bus for 1.5 hrs (waiting at stop 1 and then riding to see all the sights) with the specific request to get off for the Arlington tour. A group got on about 4 stops prior to Arlington and literally jumped in the van before us, leaving us no room. Our options were to wait for the van to get back (20 minutes while holding a sleeping toddler) or get a taxi on our own. The company could’ve handled the situation much better and we were disappointed that they didn’t try to remedy it.

My son was going on his Sr trip and was excited... until we found out he would either sleep in a very small bed with another boy he just met (my son is 6'3" and broad shouldered- think football sized) or on the floor. His Sr trip was filled with 6/7 graders. These 2 age groups have very different maturity levels. He had to rush thru the places he wanted to see because the younger kids didn't want to be there. Trust me save your money and take your child. He wishes I had. Heartbreaking considering how much money I paid for this trip. None of my other kids will do this and if I hear of them at a school I will attend these meetings and point out all of this and give my son's experience.

We booked this tour based on great reviews and the fact our small daughter loves travelling on open topped buses. We arrived at L’Enfant plaza to start the tour and were really disappointed to see that of the three buses that were lined up waiting, two of them were closed top buses. All the advertising shows open topped buses so I was under the impression that this is what we would be getting. We opted to wait half an hour until the open top bus would be in service.

The route is good and includes all the main attractions DC has to offer. However, the sound on our bus was really poor, resulting in the tour guide sounding really muffled so we couldn’t hear a lot of what she was saying. What we did hear was very factual and informative, but the guide lacked the charisma and anectodal stories we’ve experienced on bus tours in other cities.

It was fine, but I wouldn’t rave about it.

I’ve ridden this and other busses between DC and NYC many times. I also drive or take the train occasionally. I chose this bus because the last time I took it there was NO STOP, shaving 15-20 minutes off the trip. There is no reason to strip. The passengers and driver can use the toilet on the bus. Passengers would prefer a SHORTER TRIP than fast food. We can suervive 4 hours without food or bring a snack!

Carl is an amazing driver for DC Trails. Made the Washington DC trip a positive experience for the group travel. A positive traveling atmosphere was created at all times. The needs of the passengers were attended at all times.

DON'T TAKE THIS TOUR!!! I read Trip Advisor reviews and jumped into this excursion with my son and grandson. I felt held hostage and tortured by the bus driver. It took 2 hours to make the 30 min. drive to Mt. Vernon because Charles (our driver/guide) would pull over onto the roadside and begin an incoherent narrative, speaking maniacally fast and making little sense. I even walked to the front of the bus and asked him please to slow down. Nope - he raced on like a man on speed. Finally I plugged my ears and pulled out a book. Our time in DC if finite and somewhat precious. I didn't need to spend an unecessary hour and half capitve on the stupid bus listening to this maniac. I know he meant well - but fast talk does not make one a tour guide. Moreover, when we finally arrived at Mt. Vernon, he failed to offer what would have been helpful suggestions - e.g., rather than detail the food in the restaurants (overpriced and unremarkable), I wish he would have suggested the audio guides, available only at the entrance to the property. Ugh - Is this an honest process or are some reviewers being paid?! Take it from me - this is a lousy tour.
