There are some nice pubs but it wasnt as great as I thought it would be. You have to dig deep and find the good rooftops.

how can you not go to this long time local favorite, and imagine the days when U street was something else entirely. Plus it is yummy!

I lived about four blocks from here for nine years and U Street is awesome - take the metro if you don't want to deal with parking (or park further east down near 8th St). Great little shops (like 4NXC and Caramel), great restaurants (Ben's...More

I like the place and the hot-dogs as well, very good place to be in U street and if you want to feel the local flavour of the neighboorhood

Everyone must go to Ben's Chili Bowl once while visiting DC. It's an institution. See a show at the Lincoln Theatre next door to Ben's. It's a beautiful and historic space. Lots of good Ethiopian restaurants in the area as well.
