The architecture is stunning. Just jaw dropping when you walk in. So glad we were able to visit while in D.C. Would love to go back during mass. 🙏🏼

Our visit to the Basilica was a highlight in our D.C. Vacation. The hourly tours are very informative & free. I suggest taking the Saturday 3pm to orientate yourself, afterwards go back and spends some time @ your favorite spots in the Basilica & go...More

Beautiful, powerful building. Much to see. As a practicing Catholic, could stay all day and pray at various chapels, etc. Construction and tourists can be distracting. Taking pictures and talking leading up to Mass gave it a museum feel. Great gift shop. A must see...More

Our Catholic family of 5 spent several hours here on a recent trip to DC. The architecture is breathtaking and the details are overwhelming. After about the 20th chapel honoring Mary, I started pondering "Why all the excess?" and couldn't help but consider the cost...More

I went to Sunday noon mass with my 2 sons, 13 & 11. The choir was beautiful. After mass we toured the basilica on our own. There are so many places for quiet prayer and contemplation. It felt peaceful and very spiritual.

We've traveled the world and what an amazing Basilica of the National Shrine. You walk in and feel your Faith come alive, the Choir, the Mass, the Priests the whole area is breath taking. Words can't explain what you feel and see.

The Basilica is a wonderful side trip for any lover of architecture, churches or Catholicism. Near a Metro stop, the Basilica is a short rode away from downtown. Really amazing building and a tour is sure to delight and amaze.

Moving around in the Washington area between 4 to 6 pm is always a challenge. Public transport let's someone else do the driving.

It would be possible to visit both in the same day. You could arrange a tour for one in the morning and the other after lunch. I do not know if either place has picnic facilities. But you can get a reasonable cost... More
