How do you really rate such a minor tribute? We stumbled upon it as we walked the National Mall. Don’t go out of your way to see it, although you can’t really critique it negatively. It was never meant to be awe inspiring.

Compared to all the other monuments on the National Mall, this one is pretty simple. It's on the NM, but you probably wouldn't see it unless you knew where to look. I was surprised to learn that it's the only monument on the Mall dedicated to the veterans of World War I and it's not even a National monument, but a DC monument. If you're walking between the Lincoln Memorial and the WW II Memorial you just need to take a small detour (200 yards?)to the south and you'll see this pretty much forgotten monument. Very peaceful because nobody ever goes there.

I almost walked right by this memorial, however there were less than a handful of people present so I took the time to have a look. If you are not looking for this memorial, you will likely walk right by it. Be careful when inside the memorial, if you are not looking, you could easily miss the steps and walk off the memorial and fall to the ground.

This memorial shines. It is located on the National Mall but is a DC memorial to the veterans of WW1. It is quiet, pretty, and for this grandson of a WW1 Navy veteran, very moving. The fact that it lacks the grandeur of other war memorials in the capital makes it, for me, all the more special.

Every time I run by this little memorial, I am reminded that DC residents pay taxes and serve our country, yet we are not granted voting representation in Congress. A travesty in a place that purports to be the greatest democracy on earth. The memorial was dilapidated for a long time, but was recently rehabilitated and is a lovely little spot on the mall off Independence Ave just across for the new MLK memorial.

This is the only memorial for WWI in DC - the forgotten war. It is hidden away, but actually on the Mall, not far from the WWII memorial and the Korean memorial. It is actually not a federal memorial, but rather a District of Columbia memorial. It is,however, administered by the National Park Service.

It is a small, circular domed memorial standing about 47 feet high and 44 feet around. It was built in 1931, which was 13 years after the end of World War One. It commemorates the 26,000 people from the DC which served in that war -- 492 men and 7 women from DC were killed in World War One. Unfortunaely, there is no memorial for everyone that served in WWI.

It is a quiet, beautiful monument and worth a visit. It is the only rememberance of WWI in DC. I find it sad that a war that killed twice a many as Vietnam as no national marker in DC. Over 126,000 US citizens died in WWI (comared to 58,000 in Vietnam).

We should remember the sacrifices of those who served in WWI. Absent a national monument, this is a good start (and great for DC), but there should be more. This memorial was recently renovated (cleaned up and polished) and looks like a small scale jewel compared to the other larger monuments in DC.

This always seemed to me the type of memorial that most people accidentally visit when in DC. After seeing the Lincoln Memorial or Korean War Memorial people stumble upon this. And when they do they walk up and realize how nice it is. I don't think it gets the credit it deserves as you don't see too many WW1 memorials which this relates to. You can tell there is history is and is such a nice monument anyone can walk up and relax around. Well worth a visit!!!

It is somber and pleasant. It sets a little out of the way of other memorials.I enjoyed the visit. No one else was near, I don't think people realize what it is or what it represents. We as a nation should have done better to commemorate our involvement in the Great War.

This was a very simple memorial honoring those from Washington D.C. who had fought in the war. The names of the fallen heroes and branches of government were presented on the monument. It was a simple reminder paying respect to those from the D.C. area who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country.
