Today the Potomac is a beautiful River where you can enjoy a nice walk along it and have a good boat trip as well. In the past, however, this river was heavily polluted and unsanitary. Good we made progress since then. The river adds life and personality to Washington DC. It's amazing something so natural can do that.

We paddle boated down this river. It was a beautiful sight seeing the cherry blossoms in bloom. The river and everything around it is very picturesque.

This is a famous river that runs between Alexandria and Washington DC. Perhaps one of the best big city water features in the city. There are several parks, walking paths along the entire length of the river maybe 3 miles or more, with incredible views especially at sunset.

When we visited DC for vacations my little daughter was so excited about river cruises that we made it twice: first - with ‘Capitol River Cruises’ company, second – with ‘National River Tours’. Both started at Georgetown, lasted 45 minutes and coasted the same, and both were great, but the second one – with ‘National River Tours’ – impressed us more. Although the boat itself looked funny and old-fashioned, it had the same speed that more appealing boats from the other company, and followed more interesting route. The captain’s narrations were very detailed and lasted the whole tour.
All boats have roofs, so you have sun and rain protection. This is so great after a day of running around the National Mall to relax on board! I recommend it to everyone, especially families with kids. And the Georgetown waterfront itself is a great place to have a dinner with river view.

trust me, they take u out on a noisy fishing trawler like old yatch, down the potomac in ultra slow motion, n return...u get to see absolutely nothing except the murky dirty waters of the river...n theoretical distant pentagon n stuff...at rates of 22 $ per head, it is better to jump in the river n take a swim urself, n use the money to feed the starving ducks...

“I VISITED THIS PLACE”…
… for the scenery and it is hard to miss in those two areas of DC and Harpers Ferry. I enjoyed my time observing and watching the river.

ADVICES
If you are in either of these two locations, then you will see the river.

“I VISITED THIS PLACE”…
… as I drive doing its northern and southern banks and bruised it a number of times almost daily during my driving in the area. I suggested to Mrs. Place that we do an excursion from Georgetown or the Wharf, “but nooooooooo.”

We took a boat doing hourly tours between Georgetown and Alexandria. The ride takes about 1 hour, and we had a nice view of the section of the Potomac river between these two location.

It is very attractive, with parks, the Reagan airport, some navy secret base, a sense of the Pentagon, and obviously the Washington DC skyline and a view of some of the government buildings and memorials.

It is a large river and the view is beautiful.
