A statue for a member of Led Zeppelin! Ok that’s a joke. But this statue is pretty cool. It’s near the WW2 Memorial and John Paul Jones contributions to the founding of the country are underplayed. It’s great that he had this statue and great that it’s such a nice one.

The John Paul Jones memorial is simple, but a powerful image and reminder of the first great American naval hero... the first naval commander to force a surrender by a foreign battleship.

On our long walk back to the car, we stumbled on this. We seriously almost just walked right passed him. Very easy to get to.

America’s first naval hero deserves more respect than a statue at an untrodden intersection. There is no path to walk to the statue, you have to dash across the road on your own. You can see him just to the southeast of the WW2 memorial on your way to the Lincoln.

I saw a sign for this monument and saw how hidden it now was. First secretary of foreign war, its very small, but pays respect to him and the position.

This fitting tribute to John Paul Jones is located just south of the World War II Memorial. I was excited to stumble upon this memorial as John Paul Jones was one of my favorite Revolutionary War heros growing up. The memorial was very fitting for a man of his reputation. In addition, there were few people around which made for a peaceful experience.

One of the many smaller memorials around the National Mall, this one is worth a visit. It is a nice-sized tribute with a larger than life statue of the first Naval Hero of our young country.

Make sure you swing by and visit this when you visit the nearby World War II Memorial.

For those who know and interested in history of the U.S. and the Civil War should stop by to see the John Paul Jones Memorial which is located at the end of 17th Street near the Tidal Basin. According to the history, he was the U.S. naval commander in the American Revolutionary War. The memorial was erected to commemorate him the United States' first naval war hero and as the father of the United States Navy. Take a break from the big memorial attractions to learn about another hero of the country.

The U.S. has been blessed with great people. John Paul Jones was one of the best. He is widely considered to be the father of the U.S. Navy and so his statue is so close by the Navy Memorial that you cannot miss it. Visit his monument, say a prayer for this brave man and teach your children about the people who helped to make the U.S. strong.

Famous for "I have not yet begun to fight!" I loved reading about this gritty fellow! The structure itself is about 15 foot tall. really good one to read about it.
