From a distance this sculpture appears to be a masterpiece. Unfortunately it sits inside Presidential park and the only ones who can view it briefly are those queuing for a White House tour.

What I could see was General Sherman on top of his steed. At the 4 corners are sculptures representing the 4 branches of the military. On both sides of the base there appears to be a sculpture. Not exactly sure what they represent. You can probably look it up online to find out more.

There are walkways leading up to the statue but they also sit behind barriers. It's a shame that some great pieces of art representing American history can no longer be enjoyed by the public.

Another monument but somehow better than others. Located near the whitehouse, it reminded me of the whitehouse and TV show filmed near it. It was hard to get close to. There was a lot of security near it as I think other things were going on att the whitehouse.Lots of fencing I wish we could have gotten closer.

We could see the Sherman Statue beyond the blockades placed by the Secret Service. The statue is very impressive, but one cannot get closer than about 100 feet. I understand the need for tight security near the White House; however, it is a shame.

William Tecumseh Sherman was a fighting general. He believed that the United States was one nation and was prepared to risk his and his troops life to ensure the survival of the United States. His grateful nation has honoured him with a monument near to the Willard Hotel in Washington D.C. Pay General Sherman a visit when next in D.C.

This is a nice spot near the White House to stop for a few minutes and recharge. The monument itself is well executed. Not the greatest monument in a city full of monuments, but still pleasant.

A great tribute to a great soldier. It is unfortunate that the general public cannot get close enough to see any detail on the statue. It is behind the barriers for the White House and really available only to those who are able to enter the White House grounds.

I certainly didn’t realise this statue represented Sherman and the reason is simple - you can’t get anywhere near it due to White House security. Viewed from the closet point (15ths St NW) it’s too far away to make out clearly. However, what you can see is certainly impressive and just a pity you can’t get anywhere close enough to appreciate the full impact. I looked it up on the internet and the history of the memorial is quite interesting - unfortunately that’s the closet you’ll probably ever get!

This equestrian statue of American Civil War Major General William Tecumseh Sherman is located in Sherman Plaza. The original sculptor, Carl Rohl-Smith, died before it was finished; so, the statue was completed by a number of other sculptors. It was finally unveiled in 1903. Four bas-relief panels adorn the sides of the monument – they depict The March Through Georgia, The Battle of Atlanta, Sherman by the Campfire, and the Battle of Missionary Ridge.
